As you all may know Marmalade Photography made its' home in beautifully historic and sort of beat up Wilmington IL from early 2007 to early 2012. Love Wilmy and all the history and lore associated with it.

The Gemini Giant has made its' home along the historic Rt 66 corridor for 55 years now however because of some conflict the future of The Gemini Giant is unclear. For many of us this is truly unbelievable that a big part of the fabric of the town and the Rt 66 corridor may no longer be making its' home in historic Wilmington.

The Vivian Maier Effect.

Years ago I was one of the first to lay eyes on Vivian Maier's work publicly exhibited at the Chicago Cultural Center. Her work is incredible, literally a massive body of work which not one person outside of Vivian herself laid eyes on. In fact Vivian never even processed most of her film…much of her reality as captured by her was never even seen by her. It was only after her death, a random find by a random individual buying out storage units, where film was developed and the incredible legacy was finally seen by the world.

We photographers know that a Vivan Maier is a rarity especially in today's social media influenced world. A photographer who is a photographer SOLELY to exist as a photographer. Not as a social media influencer…not as a celebrity photographer but just to capture something that exists within your soul.

Having said that…I recently had the opportunity to ge tmy favorite Warrior Ballerina in front of my camera as well as her awesome parents (they're ok ;) ) Love these faces. Loved catching up!

I am still trudging along playing catch up. So far today have put up 3 galleries and am taking a break before doing other stuff…

Having said that let me take the time for a PSA for any mamas to be and for the people out there reading this.

IF you plan on getting maternity photos THE best time to do it is while you are still feeling decent and showing *just* enough. All too often mamas to be put off getting their maternity photos "until later" then are rushing in last moment to get them done.

The *BEST* time to do maternity photos is when you think "Huh I may want to do maternity photos" when you start looking @ yourself in the mirror and seeing your bump in its' almost full glory. TYPICALLY toward the end of the second trimester for first time moms, usually a bit sooner (sometimes quite a bit sooner) for second time or further moms.

Why is this?

• baby isn't fully grown, you still look and feel great
• 2nd trimester is often the best of times during a pregnancy

And other reasons as well.

I LOVE doing maternity photos and this is one of those things that are best getting done sooner rather than later. The morning sickness is typically in the shadows (not always but typically so). You aren't feeling so full of baby where you waddle…yet. Your skin is plump, glowing, you have those beautiful glowy hormones on board and honestly stretch marks are at not where they typically go in the throes of that last trimester.

I want this to be a PSA for all new moms out there. Maternity photos are a wonderful celebration of life and are worth having professionally crafted for you and your body certainly changes after pregnancy #1.

I apologize…I've been shooting and editing and just busy with the back end of things and have some sneak peeks from last weekend that will be going up in the next couple of days.

For some reason the "noise" from being online seems to be louder than usual for me, maybe because I (thankfully) have a to do list a mile long…so I find myself not really checking in on here very much.

I hope this finds you well. Today's cooler weather has really got me in a fall vibe and excited about minis on Sunday where we will continue to have the same kind of weather.
