I’ve been thinking a lot about the work I want to do this year. 🧠

Many of you know me from my time producing events in the desert. Some know that I also earned my BFA in photography back in 2010. I was lucky to apply those art skills at the gallery I worked at post-college, before going to The Tripwire and IMPOSE Magazine.

Much of my time from 2007-2015 was photographing musicians and festivals, often portrait style. I’ve recently picked back up the massive endeavor it is to organize your digital archive. The band era of photos is a big chunk, but so is some of my college work. And in going down memory lane sorting through class projects, I realized I’ve *always* been a weird girl. Dress up my friends in Eyes Wide Shut outfits and wrestle on the floor? Put on wigs and traipse through bars in North Beach, writing a narrative in real time? Done. Some of these concepts were real obnoxious.

…yet loved seeing my creativity this way at 20. Unabashed and unhinged. And now that I’m 40, I’m feeling that feralness again. Hence was born. Hence getting back to creating art.

Goat Mountain Co has a group show this weekend called “New Year New Face.” I’ve been thinking a lot about the work I want to do this year - artistically, emotionally, physically. Part of that journey is understanding who I am now as an adult. Fully embracing my faults. Looking to the sun for the future.

Posts I’m catching up on from last year, part 2️⃣ - High Notes, our benefit concert for the Foundation, April 2024✨

MPM spent much of 2023 forming our 501(c)3. This meant that 2024 would be a year of growth and strategy. On 4/20 we produced a spring soirée featuring the music stylings of Gyptuoso, with , , and Damien Lester. This effort to help elevate the MPM mission and connect with our desert communities was vital for reconnection.

We raised funds to present additional fall shows and paired with to offer our patrons fab charcuterie noshing. I got up on stage to talk about my experiences joining the MPM team in 2020 by the way of random email, and actually got to read that email to a studio audience for the first time 😅

2025 means we’re official + ready to do the deep work. Here’s to the glimmers of what MPM can accomplish this year - all alongside your support. 🖤

Posts I’m catching up on from last year, part 1️⃣ - seeing in , July 2024 ✨

I have always adored Missy for so many reasons - her music, her music videos, her image. I’ve grown up with her since the mid 90s and could not NOT have seen her on her tour last year.

🎶 - she always rapped about women being powerful and strong, about appreciating your body, and about having control and confidence navigating through life. Sure, s*x, being young and carefree also made appearances. But her lyrics were never crass for the sake of a reaction, and some of her word-smithery is straight up genius. And no one can challenge that her beats were catchy AF.

🎥 - the impact that so many of her visual creations brought to the world is profound. For a time, I desired to be a music video director because it looked possible that I myself could birth futuristic, transformative, weird, and rambunctious art. She definitely would be one of the matriarchs of . She’s also talked so much about how much creative control she had in making these pieces, and that she would take a long time in conceiving a new idea for each video, and that shows. Add in her longstanding commitment to tap into the dance community, and the performances that are now iconic, and this legacy is a breathtaking one.

📸 - she didn’t compromise herself to sell more records. Dressing s*xy meant being owning the boldness, and not just wearing a skimpy outfit. Everything she wore and projected told me a story of talent and authority. Also, seeing someone who looked more like me growing up as a curvy girl, did more for my self esteem than any inspirational speech.

It was such a life long dream to see her live. The costumes, the hits, the light show. Everything for her set was perfect. and also crushed it hard. A big thank you to my desert Aries bestie for basically planning the whole thing and being a kickass road-trip partner in crime 💕

Nine (!) years ago my city cowboy proposed to me in our tiny kitchen in San Francisco. One knee was touching the linoleum, other pointed square at my blubbering face. I was working from home, in sweats griping about the last email I had to send while also cursing the institution of marriage. “I mean, it’s only so recently that people marry for love, you know? Like how much would my dowry really have been?!!” It felt like it was 10 seconds later that a garnet ring initialized in front of my face. I said yes.

We’d already planned to go to a show at that night, so it being an impromptu engagement party was icing on the cake. We got drunk with friends and danced the night away with .

A few years ago, one of the singers from the band posted on their Facebook they’d found extra merch from their early days. Imagine my great surprise that there was a show poster the night we got engaged. I didn’t even know one existed. I promptly ordered one. It hangs in our new desert home now, a fabulous reminder of a night well celebrated.

The fact that the day we got engaged has commemorative art tickles my soul. Happy , . Thanks for proposing on Friday the 13th, and not on Valentine’s Day itself, like an amateur 😘

Happy 20th anniversary, Rickshaw Stop. I (mostly) remember the early days of drinking Sofia minis and cutting a rug during nights like Club I-D.

Little did I know that later in my life I’d become a photographer and snap shots, backstage and onstage, of artists coming thru; then work nights doing hospitality and ticketing; then manage the door & guest lists for the club directly during the most sold out shows.

Some of my fave stories include:
🌟 the Jawbreaker / vent incident
🌟 Lady Sovereign’s meltdown
🌟 getting In-N-Out delivered to me during the Sam Smith show
🌟 Dan Akroyd not knowing how a wristband worked
🌟 every staff holiday party I was invited to
🌟 my double quinceañera and getting dedicated to the universe by a Sister of Perpetual Indulgence

Last night was so fun! @monpetitmojave was featured in the annual Festival of Lights parade in old town Yucca Valley, where we got to showcase Big Red (aka the motorized sleigh 🛷) alongside many other floats, vehicles, and carts decked out in the holiday spirit.
