For the past several years I had the privilege of DJing Matt's Twin Creeks Fireworks Show every 4th of July. Unfortunately, last year was the last show after 18 years. So much time, money and preparation went into the show. Even after they announced that last year would be the last show, a part of me held on to some hope that they might just change their mind and do the show again.

While I understand the decision, I can't help but be a little bummed that there won't be a show moving forward. It was always one of the highlights of my year!! Amazing fireworks with an incredible community. It just doesn't get much better than that.

So now the question is, what do I do this year on the 4th? My calendar is open if you know anyone needing an experienced DJ!! I would love to help make your event memorable. Got a call yesterday from another vendor while I was DJing a wedding. Normally, I don't answer calls during an event, but it was the middle of cocktail hour and it was from a close vendor friend, so I assumed it was urgent. And it was. The wedding she was at was missing their DJ. He hadn't shown up, and the ceremony was set to start in less than 40 minutes.

I called her later that evening to find out what happened. The DJ finally arrived 15 minutes before the ceremony, showing no sense of urgency while setting up, and was dressed in dirty jeans and a t-shirt. Needless to say, the event did not go well.

THIS is why you should always hire a PROFESSIONAL wedding DJ. Not your friend who does it on the side, and not your uncle who DJed in high school. A wedding is a very special day where memories are created, and it’s worth the investment to hire an experienced wedding DJ.

In my 20 year experience, I have seen a lot of these so I thought I'd put together a list to ensure you don't hire an amateur for your special day.

Here are some red flags to watch out for:

Poor Communication:

- Slow or unresponsive communication.
- Difficulty in understanding your wedding vision and preferences.

No Contract or Agreement:

- Inability to discuss a diverse range of music genres.
- Lack of flexibility in accommodating specific song requests.
