***FINAL CASTING CALL FOR SATURDAY NOVEMBER 9TH***

Join us for a season of new beginnings and wondrous opportunities. All levels of experience are encouraged to audition for our local cast, and training is provided!
We’re looking for local talent to breathe life into our 16th-century village as they learn and execute skills such as Stage Combat, Courtly and Country Dance, Improv, Stage Acting, Renaissance History, and Elizabethan Dialect!

We are primarily casting roles for those who are 18+, but exceptions may be made for younger actors who show maturity and promise along with written parental permission or on-site supervision.

Local cast members receive a daily stipend for performance days to offset the cost of food, transportation, and costumes.

Auditions will comprise of meeting the directors, discussing your talents and interests to determine where you may best fit, a reading (you can either prepare a one-minute monologue or a monologue or scene with a director will be provided to you to read from), and a discussion of expectations for local cast participation. Should you be interested in Stage Combat, a brief movement audition will also be given.

In general, cast members are expected to attend all rehearsal and performance dates, work with directors to construct a period-accurate costume (it’s easier and less expensive than you’d think), and practice their Elizabethan Dialect, and enjoy suggested reading/viewing in their off-time.

Join us this season. The only danger is you will love it so much, that you’ll want to run away with the Renaissance Fair all year!

***Final Audition dates***

Saturday, November 9th - 10:00 am to 6:00 pm

This is an open casting call, and as such, scheduling an audition is not necessary. Just show up on an audition date at the indicated above time, and you will be seen.

***Location***
Castle Park
3190 New York Ave.
Melbourne, FL 32934

Saturday, January 14th - 10:00 am to 5:00 pm

***Performance Weekends***

All Performance Weekends require most Cast Members to be on-site from roughly 9:00 am to 7:00 pm each day.

January 18th, 19th, 20th (MLK Monday), 25th, 26th, February 1st, 2nd, 8th, 9th, 15th, 16th, 22nd, 23rd.

***Stage Combat Details***

Want to learn how to Swashbuckle like a pirate? Riposte like a courtier? Brawl like a street rat? We can teach you!

Participating in our Stage Combat program comes with additional time commitments. All Stage Combatants MUST be present at the Stage Combat Boot Camp on November 30th and December 1st from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Stage Combatants will also need to make themselves available for additional training/choreography/rehearsal on additional dates such as Sunday Afternoons or Weekday Evenings. Participation in the Stage Combat Boot Camp does not guarantee you a role as a Stage Combatant, but we do our best to make sure all who participate get an opportunity to fight.

***Support Squad***

Don’t want to perform but want to participate behind the scenes? We’re also looking for Stage Managers, Costumers, Prop Builders, and anyone wanting to support our cast. For example, you may not have a trade skill, but we always need people to host the green room, go on supply runs, help manage cast schedules, etc.

***Professional Actors, Read Here!***

Are you a professional actor looking for a paid role? If so, email your headshot, resume, and reel (if you have one) to the casting director for consideration. Qualified actors are expected to have a minimum of two years of professional acting experience, proficiency in Elizabethan Dialect, and possess one or more of the following skills: SAFD Trained Stage Combatant, Dance, Singing, Movement, Shakespearian Theatre, Stage Acting, High-Level Long Form Improv Theatre, or a Musical Instrument. If you meet these requirements, the directors will reach out to you with salary expectations and plan an in-person or online audition. This audition will consist of a dramatic monologue, comedic monologue, improv audition, and acapella song. This is a non-union role. Actors must be available for all performance dates and at minimum all rehearsals in January. Stage Combatants must submit a video of at least one full fight. Rehearsals are unpaid, and we will contract and pay you every two weeks of the run of the fair.

Happy Labor Day!

Are you ready to party down with the villagers of “town yet to be named”?

Join Bess and Marley and The Brothers Blackquill for two unforgettable adventures each day through our various and sundry public houses.

Each Pub Crawler gets 4 Beers and one commemorative drinking vessel.

Normally Pub Crawl tickets cost $40 per person, but for a limited time you can grab one for $30! Hurry to our site to secure your spot in the Pub Crawl, as they typically sell out before we open.

This is a great way to see a brand new drinking show and support the fair as we make our expensive transition from Wickham Park to our new site.

23/08/2024

Don’t cry everyone, we have the keys to the property!

Now that we’ve had time to iron things out with government officials and bring our team up to speed with the challenges ahead of us, I thought that a nice info dump of frequently asked questions and oft voiced concerns would be appropriate.

👑👑👑

“I heard that you only have the property for a year. Is that true?”

Yes and no. We’ve signed a one-year agreement (with an opportunity to extend) with the city for the use of the property. This is for a few different reasons. First, things were moving too slow between the county and the city, and we’ve got to get this show put together! You may notice this season that a few of your favorite acts or vendors may not be with us. That will most likely be due to the delay that was caused by the morass of local politics. Don’t worry, most of your favorites will return and you’ll be thrilled by some new offerings as well, but some people simply had to move to other festivals or options due to the fact that many of us do this for a living and can’t sit around waiting for a contract in good faith.

The one year contract with the city has every opportunity to continue on a yearly basis. One of the positives of this arrangement is that if this site doesn’t work out, we can look for something else, rather than being locked into a long term lease on something that does not suit us.

👑👑👑

“Will there be shade?”

Kinda! In past posts we’ve indicated our desire to plant trees and even transplant grown trees on to the site. That will not happen this year, due to the nature of the lease. Our current shade plan is to provide shade cloth over every stage, food court, and rest area. Shade can also be found at pubs and in every booth. Think of a situation like Disney, Universal, or any other major theme park where most walking spaces are uncovered and rest areas are covered. We’ve also bandied about the idea of misting areas and other water features. Ultimately, weather that time of year is typically temperate. If you’re overly concerned, wear a hat. We know this isn’t the ideal circumstance, but we will do everything possible to make everyone as comfortable as we can.

👑👑👑

“Will you hold other events on the property?”

At the moment, no. The lease is only between the fair and the city. There is the possibility we could bring other events to the space in the future, but at the moment we’re focusing entirely on BRF.

👑👑👑

“Is this a permanent site?”

No, but we are able to put up a great deal of infrastructure, such as fences, stages, power, water, etc. A condition of the lease is that if we leave the property, we leave it in the condition we found it in. This will result in a permanent “feel”, but at the moment nothing is being cemented into the ground and no earth is being moved. As things progress, that has the ability to change.

👑👑👑

“A crazy lady told me if there’s a hurricane the city will take the site back and use it as a dump for yard waste and the faire will be cancelled. Is that true?”

No. While historically the property has been used as an overflow for hurricane related yard waste, that will not be the case this year. The city has asked us to earmark a section of the site for emergency debris storage, but this will not be on the grounds of the fair. It will be on the other side of the property, occupying an area of our parking lot.

👑👑👑

“How big will the fair be?”

The new site is about 40-50 acres. Of that, roughly 15 acres will be used for the fair itself. This is a comparable size to our old fair. The rest of the acreage will be used for parking, backstage, and the aforementioned emergency debris storage.

👑👑👑

“What’s the address?”

We have not yet received an address for the new site. The city will assign us one when they’re good and ready. Please stop asking me 😩

👑👑👑

“Will you still have Saturday Knight Concerts/Pub Crawl/Adult Only Area/Burrito Eating Contest/Games and Rides/Joust?”

Yes.

👑👑👑

“How are you going to do this?”

Doing this is the easiest part. We’ve had as little as one week and as much as three weeks to bring the Brevard Renaissance Fair to you every year. This year we walk on to the site on October 1st and will work every day until we open. The cast will have longer to prepare. The same site crew as previous years will be on site, working. The same entertainment staff will be there, attending to stages and working on rehearsals. Everything about this gives us a lot of time to get things done.

👑👑👑

“When will you post the entertainment list and vendors?”

Mid-September!

👑👑👑

“How can I help?”

The most important thing you can do to help is order advance tickets, like, comment, and share our posts, and keep the community informed about what we’re up to. A lot of people have asked about volunteer opportunities. We are currently looking at ways to put that program together and would love your help. At the moment you can follow the google form link in the comments to show your interest. When we figure stuff out, we’ll reach out.

👑👑👑

“I heard that the site cost the city 7 million dollars/the city is crooked/the commissioners are infertile/its next to a dump…”

We get it. We know. This has been stressful. Let’s try and keep the comments positive moving forward. We’ve fought hard, we’ve achieved something resembling our goals, and there’s just as many people in the local government working with us as there are working against us. If you have any crazy conspiracy theories just DM us. We love crazy conspiracy theories. But they make the comments a mess and please my mental health 👉👈

👑👑👑

“Will there be mud?”

God willing and the creek does rise.

In Brevard's heart, where history sways,
The Renaissance Fair prepares new days.
From pastures wide to a bustling street,
A journey begins on New York's beat.

Once nestled in lands of tradition old,
Now moving forth, new tales to unfold.
Knights and jesters, with banners high,
To Melbourne’s embrace, they’ll soon fly.

Armor will gleam, and trumpets will sound,
In a new place where memories are bound.
Artisans, minstrels, with spirits so bright,
Will gather again, under Melbourne's light.

The old grounds bid a fond farewell,
To a new adventure where stories will dwell.
Off New York Avenue, with dreams anew,
The Brevard Renaissance Fair will soon debut.

Where history meets a modern street,
Past and present in harmony greet.
So come one, come all, to this new domain,
Where the Renaissance spirit shall reign again.
