Music for Life was initially TODDLERS TANGO CLASSES INSTRUCTOR OPPORTUNITIES founded in 1999 as a class based program in Syracuse, NY, by Tamar Frieden.

Frieden, a mother of four who had previously studied dance therapy, began informally teaching Music for Life classes at neighborhood playgroups. Music for Life grew out of Tamar’s belief that exposure to music and movement at a young age holds immeasurable value for children. In 2002, Music for Life was adapted for younger children with the introduction of Babies Boogie. When Toddlers Tango began

to host classes at the Jewish home in menorah park in 2004, the residents began to come out of their rooms, in order see the children, and rock with music. Ever since then, a weekly intergeneration of Toddlers Tango and Seniors Samba music class has developed. It’s a magical 45 minutes, in which the toddlers, ranging from 1-4 years old, and the residents, ageing from 80-100 years old, unite in harmonic joy. Together, the children and seniors play instruments, sing, dance, and create magic. Toddlers Tango continues to be a favorite among children and their parents and grandparents. The program has reached over 1,700 toddlers to date, including many younger siblings whose older brothers and sisters enjoyed the class before them. These children have benefited from the strong relationship between music and the development of self confidence – the foundation for tackling life’s
challenges – not to mention the fun of movement and music making among friends. As Toddlers Tango rebrands to Music For Life, all music classes will be held at assisted living and nursing homes. Feel the Movement!
