Anemones ❤️. I planned on overwintering them in the hoop house last fall but… time got away from me. Then I kind of forgot about the hundreds of bulbs until mid-spring (oops, too late). But I figured I’d plant them anyways because “maybe we’d have a really cool spring”. Nope, hotter than normal which is great for the heat lovers - a couple weeks ahead of schedule. Needless to say, Anemones do best in cool spring temps so I’m not able to use these shorties in arrangements but they’re still lovely.

I heard a bit on the radio the other day about being connected and it got me thinking. What does “being connected” mean to you?

We’re in an age where many might say being connected is having a strong online presence and lots of social media followers. But I never feel more “connected” than when I’m off of social media - away from my devices - and in nature 💐🌺. Watching the cut flower garden shift and evolve each season is mind blowing. Jason’s built quite the bird community by keeping feeders and bird houses everywhere on the farm. At dusk, the only way to describe it is magical ❤️.

It’s been 2 months since we lost our Rocky boy. Though he wasn’t too interested in being a farm dog he spent lots of long nights with me making bouquets, was always up for being a flower muse, and made visitors smile with his big goofy personality. He was the definition of a best friend to his people and all our animals adored him. ❤️🌸🌷

There is something so magical about the first snow ❄️.

This time of year brings on a lot of chores to prepare for a smooth next year. Wedding season has slowed, fresh flowers are done for the season (though we are trialing winter flowering varieties, more to come!) and there’s so so so much to document. Things that worked, didn’t work, focus for next year, etc. With weather like this though, I think I’ll just make some hot chocolate and watch it snow, the work can wait a day… or 3 🤷🏼‍♀️🙃.

It’s always interesting to see what survives frost in the fall. If it’s not super cold for long, covering will usually do the trick and you can get a few additional weeks. The sweet peas were a surprise for me this year, they performed poorly all season - my bad for planting next to the duck pond - but they’ve really started to take off! 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️😆

As I sit in the dark with my coffee and see 27° on the thermostat, I know what I’ll find out on the farm today. Last night I cut the last buckets of the season so I’ll enjoy them one last time. Bring on the cool weather, baby, time for a slow down (ha, not really).

Loving the pops of burgundy in these 🥰😍. September weddings are a dream.

It’s that bittersweet time of year where cooler temps and sweater weather are welcomed. Yet cooler temps means saying goodbye to these lovelies for the season and I’m not ready!

Fun fact Friday: Lisianthus POV

Lisis are romantic, unique and elegant flowers that people often mistake for roses. They’re native to North America and are often associated with gratitude. In traditional medicine they’re used for reducing fever, inflammation and are believed to have antimicrobial effects!

Growing them is fairly easy (if you’re patient) as they take forevvverrrr to bloom. Of all the annuals we grow, they take the longest. But when they do bloom we’re rewarded with fluffy petals on strong stems and it’s all worth it. They also last a really long time out of water so make great additions to garland, corsages, boutonnières and arch pieces! Oh, and ducks like to eat them. 🦆🌸🌷
