Kate brought her grandfather to her wedding as a small photo on her bouquet. After the ceremony, as her Grandma, Donna, was giving her a hug and sharing her love and excitement, Kate showed her the pendant of her late husband (Kate's grandpa). It shocked Donna, and she immediately cried and thanked Kate for bringing him to the wedding. ⁠⁠

This made me cry as it happened, I cried again when I edited the photos, and now I'm crying again as I write this. Love comes in so many forms. Love for family, love for friends, romantic love, new love, old love. I photograph weddings and get to witness all of these forms of love and care and it endlessly moves me and inspires me to love and connect more with those in my own life. How can you show love to someone close to you today?⁠⁠

Dance parties are back, and I couldn't feel happier about it. The last couple weddings I've photographed have felt so normal. I've left with such a social high for being able to see people, hug people, and capture all the dancing and connection we have missed for the last 14 months. Bring it 2021 weddings! There are some risks to getting married in June in Oregon (☔️☔️☔️), but you also get surprise rainbows! Sometimes TRIPLE rainbows. Swipe to the second photo to see all three! This rainbow display even creeped over the hills towards us attempting to join the party, I'm sure.⁠⁠

Brooke and Anna’s wedding was an incredible trip down memory lane for me. Pacific City holds an extra special place in my heart because my wife and I got married here over 5 years ago. We were the first 2-bride couple to get married at which is so weird to say, especially when you remember it’s only been 6 years that same s*x couples were granted equal rights to marry in our country. Isn’t that a stunning fact?!?

As we walked the beach to get these photos, we shared about planning weddings as same s*x couples and how you have to be careful to find vendors who support your love and will treat you as an equal. I’m sure it’s getting easier as time goes, but I remember having to ask in intro emails to vendors if they understood and supported us as a same-s*x couple before getting any information. The thought of that breaks my heart, but I didn’t want to feel uncomfortable, and I didn’t want to support companies that didn’t approve of same-s*x marriage.

With every year and every couple that moves forward with getting married and making legal commitments to one another, I hope the stigmas and fears continue to fade for anyone in the LGBTQ+ spectrum. Let’s continue to make all love acceptable and supported in this country and world of ours!
