I am utterly and absolutely over the moon to have an armload of flowers here in Zone 8 in Port Townsend, WA in January.

This life is brutiful(h/t ). The pain immeasurable and so each day I search for morsels of beauty. Beauty that brings hope, that heals, that helps us exhale.

My goal this year was to bring color in the midst of the long, grey haul of winter. To bring siren songs of hope in the deep ache of being human on this planet at this time.

Thank you for the stellar guidance and for all the places you have blessed with color and beauty through your teaching.

In the fading light of fall, I recite these words….

Summons
Last night I dreamed
ten thousand grandmothers
from the twelve hundred corners of the earth
walked out into the gap
one breath deep
between the bullet and the flesh
between the bomb and the family.
They told me we cannot wait for
governments.
There are no peacekeepers boarding planes.
There are no leaders who dare to say
every life is precious, so it will have to be us.
They said we will cup our hands around each
heart.
We will sing the earth’s song, the song of
water,
a song so beautiful that vengeance will turn
to weeping.
The mourners will embrace, and grief replace
every impulse toward harm.

so, we have sent this dream, like a flock of
doves

and a bag of scented guavas from my trees. I

In the midst of climate chaos, grief and Mother Nature speaking loudly, I am so honored to have gotten a chance to celebrate a 90th bday.

This grandma’s granddaughter Karey, pulled together an exquisite vision to honor her grandma, including a crown filled with rosebuds.

If I make it to 90 I’d love to wear roses too.

Always returning to beauty as a salve.

August is here. Bountiful as ever.
My inner squirrel kicking in so strong to reap and store and put away.
I feel the turning, the crest over and peak into the fall ahead. Pressure.

Harvest. Swath. Sickle. Preserve.
Fill the coffers in these final months before dark settles in and the lack of light allows no harvest.

As abundant as August is, with the heat that is finally here, comes a tinge of burnout. My body asking, “today, again!?” And with a gentle nudge I say “yes, today again.” There is less of the season left than has already been and so with each morning and early evening, I fill the cooler, the freezer, the dryer, my heart with this beauty I wish could last all year. Bowing over and over to the soil and the great cycle of things.

With the heat turning on high, I have been harvesting more from my generous gardens than ever before.

Twice a day, before and after all the other activities of running a no-till farm, running a business, mothering, community membering and living, I’m out there reaping the bounty in true awe.

This summer has also been abundant with connection and experience.

I loved her sweet friends who came to pick up, noticing the morning bird song, taking gentle care of the flowers and their friends.

And I loved designing luscious green and white farm fresh elegant blooms for this local bride.

-singing loudly in the car
-circling again and again with women
-every time I walk in the garden I feel at home
-that my 11 year old is still the best snuggled.
-and this view is my flower studio isn’t too bad either.

Community has been abundant in my world.

From owning land with friends, and to moving across the mountains to make a new home and start a new business, community is the life saver.

Lately, visits from friends of old have been in abundance between flower orders and harvests.

This photo, however, shows the strength in the small, seaside community I now call my loving home. Together a group of crafty ass ladies band together to Celeste a 90th bday. The results speak for themselves!

Every day my garden and I grow in deeper understanding of each other. I miss her when I’m gone and I’m relieved when I return.

Her generosity is jaw dropping, her fertility abundant, her lessons ever unfolding.

Because folks ask me all the time what the branches of my business are I wanted to explain it here:
-Roots; selling wholesale to
-Leaves; delivering daily all over Port Townsend to honor loved ones celebrating or grieving milestones
-Flowers; coaching women one day a week to find their inner selves again and move forward deeply connected to that place.
-Fruits; weddings and elopements on the Olympic Peninsula

All with local, almost exclusively grown by me, sustainable no-till methods in this lush opening of the forest here in city limits.

When I’m not working
-I’m connecting with true intention in motherhood to my 11 year old son, Jude.
-Growing the branches of my 17 year marriage with
-Learning how to re-embody this body of mine with
-celebrating in groups, circles and intentional spaces
-Cooking the harvest for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. Always yes to chocolatey desserts!

My gratitude for this blissful sunny day just poured this post out of me. Thanks for witnessing!
