Legacy

I can't ever get it out of my head that the ones who came before us, the ones whom we look up to and desire to model after, started at zero just like the rest of us in marriage. Probably feeling the same things we feel when thinking about the rest of our lives with someone; scared spitless, inadequate, overjoyed, hopeful, thrilled, anxious. Not knowing what they didn't know, learning as they went. By no means experts from the start. And yet, here we are because of them and their taking a chance at building a life with someone. And in all reality, even if it didn't end up working out, at least they tried. Because that's all we're really capable of doing, especially when it comes to love; trying, and trying again.

The people in these heirlooms that we admire and treasure so much were not much different than us, and I think that only adds to their depth.

Mike has been one of my best mates since 6th grade.
It's an incredible privilege to remain close to a friend you've done so much growing up with; middle school awkwardness, the cursed combo of long-hair-with-braces, basement cover bands, acapella groups (mhmm. yup.), prom...till now, adulthood. All that to say, it's surreal to photograph Mike with his love, Audrey, in this incredibly exciting time in their lives, with all these memories and experiences floating in the back of my mind. And even not seeing him since moving to Philly, picking right back up where we left off.

Audrey and Mike just fit effortlessly, not to mention the scientific brilliance they both share in their respective fields; let's just say, our kids will probably be using their work and research in their textbooks someday. 🧬

Had a blast getting to create alongside some incredibly talented folks a few months back, held by and . Having none of us ever been a part of a "styled shoot" before, it was the best feeling of freedom to have no rules to adhere to- riding our own wave, finding new angles, and following the momentum and creativity of each other with no expectation in mind. Just one big playground.
An absolute honor to have that kind of trust, as well as a brutal feeling to not have space on here for so many other favorites!

When David & Nicole came to me with what they were envisioning for their wedding, it was like they were reading straight out of a page of my diary; to be fully present with their people, earthy pastels to compliment the natural tones of summer in Northern Michigan, and to go especially heavy on the black and whites (the weirder the better).

Their appreciation for all of their loved ones in attendance overflowed; it was almost as if they had to make sure their guests' cups were filled before their own! Personal touches like hand-written letters to each guest waiting underneath their plate, to the maid of honor reading the letter she got from Nicole spilling her guts about David for the very first time (see slide 8, some of her bridesmaids just *having* to see for themselves); it all felt like coming home.

About Me

Humans fascinate me. Furthermore, humans interacting with other humans fascinate me. Our relationships with one another are a deep and vital component to the human experience, and I believe those relationships should be of the utmost importance, both to photograph, and to celebrate in general. I strive to capture people as organically as possible, all of the perks and quirks that make us all so unique. Furthermore, I strive to capture your wedding story as it truly happens, even some things that you may not have even noticed. I believe photos are not just meant to be looked at; they're moments to be experienced, and re-experienced. 50 years from now I want your photos to flood you with the same emotion that they did when you first saw them. I also absolutely love to travel, and am more than down to go to wherever you need me!

This isn't just a job for me; it's a passion I want to get better at every day.

Apart from taking photos, a little more about me: I was born and raised in Grand Ledge, Michigan, and after bouncing around a bit after college I finally settled in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where I currently reside. I love being outdoors under any circumstance, whether that's snowboarding, a day hike, or a stroll around Lake Michigan. I love authentic menswear, dad jokes, and fires in the fireplace. I own a 1976 Honda CB 550 cafe racer motocycle, and it's my absolute pride and joy. My first job was at Chipotle during high school, and I still passionately pledge allegiance to their delicious burritos. I grew up playing soccer since I was 5, and will gladly scream my face off at the TV during the World Cup. My favorite musical artists I always return to are Kings of Leon, The National, and Noah Gundersen.
