I’m rarely in the photos or desire to be if I’m being honest. But when Maggie asks to take my portrait with the “fancy camera” aka the Polaroid… how can you say no?

Among the few things she says she wants to be when she’s an adult, a photographer frequently tops the list which warms this dad’s heart. 💛

I’m trying to savor these next two months with this girl before the older two are home everyday.

The days feel long a lot of times but they are definitely full in the best ways. 💛

This was one of my favorite sessions this fall. It was a mad rush to get the last bit of sunset light but it was well worth the crazy fun. It’s always a joy to take photos for friends and there’s never a dull moment with this bunch. So happy for them as they welcomed their newest member to the family 2 weeks go!⁣

Congrats Gietzen family 💛

A few weeks back I had an opportunity to document an evening for Golden Hour Supper Society. It’s a social gathering where you meet new people and enjoy food you likely wouldn’t be able to get around Brookings, and this particular event took place at Schadé.

The evening was centered around 4 different courses, starting with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres while mingling with other fellow guests. After that, the picnic began down in the vineyard with some appetizers. Then the main meal, a boil supper with corn, sausage, potatoes was enjoyed together in a long banquet table style arrangement. And finally, to wrap up the night there was wine and desserts at sunset.

Each course gave you the opportunity to sit with new people and make new connections. The concept is a lot fun and very relational, as you get to try new food with new and old friends.

I’m excited to finally share the photos with you and hope you enjoy this little highlight of the gathering! Look out for a more detailed blog post soon with way more photos! Special thanks to Rachel and Kirsten with , and Jacob and Claire with !

We took engagement photos nearly two years ago and like a lot of couples they never imagined they’d have to figure a pandemic into the plans before making it to the wedding day. But, a couple weeks ago these two were finally able to celebrate their marriage with all of their loved ones and it ended up being a beautiful day. Johannah and Brandon rolled with the punches and kept the most important thing at the center of it all.

Thanks for trusting me with capturing your day and your patience while navigating this strange season in the process Johannah and Brandon.

Enjoy a little sneak peek of their day!

🎉🎉🎉 G I V E A W A Y 🎉🎉🎉

Our family is officially 2 weeks away from meeting our newest member and we're pretty excited. Although, we'd be fine with her coming earlier (Rachel prays for it). With that, I'm doing a giveaway in celebration of our baby girl's arrival which will be to guess her name. It will have two rounds, the first starting today. Rules as followed:

1 — Comment on this post by guessing what her name starts with. You can guess 3 letters, but only comment once please.
2 — Like this post and share it so others can participate + give me some FB algorithm love :)
3 — Submissions are good until Sunday evening!

I'll announce the correct letter next Monday, Aug 9th. If you guess the correct letter in one of your three, you'll receive a discounted mini portrait session. If you don't guess the correct letter, don't worry you still be able to participate in round 2 next Monday which will be guessing the actual name for a free portrait session. If you have questions send me a DM! Good luck!

I recently had the opportunity to hang out with these two for a couple hours and document one of their last days in SD before heading to New York for their wedding celebration! Tapan told me he wanted some engagement portraits to remember this place and these last 4 years Nishi has called sioux Falls home.

They just got married this past weekend and I’m feeling extremely grateful to have given them something they can look back on to remember this place that has left an imprint on their relationship with their people here and with each other.

It’s still crazy to think how much life will be changing at the end of this summer. We’ve gotten so use to it being the 4 of us for nearly 4 years now. Mags starts school, Rowan turns four, and baby girl 2 arrives… all in August.

I’m definitely excited to meet baby girl 2, but also getting nostalgic about this season we’ve been able to have with these two. They’ve become best friends and are nearly inseparable. Every night when we ask them what the best part of their day was, it always includes doing an activity with the other.

Happy Friday! Hope y’all have a weekend where you can be present with those you love. 🤟🏻

Creating portraits is amazing, but the story behind them gives them meaning & worth. Hear these words words from Karley describing what she admires in Dylan 🖤👇

“Dylan is very, very, very patient. I have always said that about him since the beginning— I’m amazed at how patient that man is. Lord knows I couldn’t be that way even if i tried my hardest. He also hardly ever gets moody which is good cause I have way too many moody days. My favorite part is that he makes me laugh even when I’m moody…”

Engagement portraits are often thought of as a time to take some pretty photos to use for invites, save the dates, and other printing goods to announce the the celebration to come. But what if it could be an opportunity for something more?

What if you could have a space to slow down and be present in a time when everywhere else is telling you to go faster. Taking intentional time to remember what brought you here to this moment and how crazy it is that you’ve found the one.

What if it could be a sacred space where you could tell each other how much you mean to one another with your words, tears, laughs, and even silence. Creating space for genuine connection & memories.

What if your engagement portraits could be a moment you remember and became part of your story... rather than just telling it.

2021 has been pretty slow thus far, so I’ve been investing in my personal and small business growth, which has resulted in a lot reading, reflection, and prayer.

A few years ago I was introduced to the book “Start With Why.” This past week I decided to open it up again to revisit the challenging topic and hard questions.

It was the inspiration I needed and I’m excited to start building off the ideas that have sparked from it. Don’t stop asking questions and trying to grow 🙌🏻

A slightly warmer day with some snowfall has me remembering this unexpected snowy wedding nearly two years ago. I’ll always remember it because Sam & Allie had it planned to be an outdoor fall wedding, but the weather decided it wanted to blizzard in October.

We all had just a few days to make adjustments for the snow, changes to be indoors, and everything else that came with it. When the day arrived, Sam & Allie were fully there for it. They embraced the snow and everything else that came with it. They walked in the snow, snuggled for photos + video, and celebrated this important day in their lives. Even though the day wasn’t packaged the way they planned, it was still filled with what mattered most —laughter, hugs, and tears. Intentional moments with family, friends, and each other.

Life doesn’t happen the way you expect and sometimes your wedding day won’t either. Slow down, be present, and lean into these moments.

Happy Monday! Anyone else done with this -20° 🤚🏻

Mission Statement

I believe in a real and intentional approach to photography & film. These should capture moments and details that show you as you really are... not forced or fake poses. They should take you back and make you feel the same way you did in that moment, while reminding you of the journey you’re still on. I want to connect with my clients and know them personally so I can provide services and products that are also real and intentional.
