With engagement season upon us, we wanted to offer some friendly advice to all you newly engaged couples. Here are 6 red flags to look out for when researching and inquiring with vendors!
• vendors who post other people’s work as their own | reverse image search if the work seems a little fishy or out of line with their usual postings
• delayed communication during the inquiry or quoting process | sometimes this is due to peak season, sometimes this is because they are highly sought after, but sometimes it previews a lack of professionalism or ability to juggle, so it’s best to find out what is causing the lack of communication from a stylist who isn’t replying before signing on to their calendar
• vague or unclear descriptions of what’s included during the inquiry process or contract | no unclear descriptions allowed, so if your photographer or coordinator says you get them “all day,” it’s okay to ask how many hours that typically is
• inconsistent reviews | a reputable vendor is still human, but repetitive inconsistency shows an underlying problem in their clients’ journeys
• forgotten meetings | time management is pivotal on wedding days, and your time matters, so if vendors have trouble managing their daily calendar, that’s understandably concerning
• and lastly, if it seems to good to be true, you can bet it is | getting a $3,000 quote from one florist and a $13,000 quote from another for the same asks is likely proof of varietal or scale compromises being made behind the scenes during costing that you might not be willing to settle for.
