If you are a maid of honor, best man, or parent of the bride or groom who will be giving a toast, this post is for you!
I have seen great wedding toasts, bad wedding toasts and everything in between. While some people are really successful at doing something creative or out of the box, the majority of great toasts I've seen follow a similar outline:
1. Start off with talking about the person you're closest to (your friend if you're the MOH or best man, or your child if you're the parent). Usually this looks something like, "Mary and I have been close since the day she was born and over the years it has been such a joy to watch her grow up". Then tell an anecdote about them or you together. This can be funny or sentimental or something that makes you proud of them.
2. Then transition to talking about how happy you are that they met their new spouse and tell a story about this new wonderful person. The story can be along the lines of the first time you met them, a story about something that showed you that they were the perfect fit, and so on.
3. Then close with well wishes! Tell them how thrilled you are, how lucky you feel, and that you wish them nothing but the best. Don't forget to end with raising a glass to the couple!
If you have given a maid of honor, best man, father of the bride, etc toast, what worked (or didn't) for you? And if you use this outline, tell me how it goes!!
