I perform secular, spiritual, multicultural, and interfaith ceremonies. I help people mark the changes in their lives, some joyous, some somber, and I assure that they have the opportunity to mark these events in a way that is meaningful to them.

I've helped so many loving LGBTQ+ couples become families. Their love harms no one. Their unions bring stability to society, just as cis het marriages do. They deserve none of the hate being levied against them.

I officiated a wedding yesterday. Normally I go home very happy, but yesterday I got home and cried because they deserve the happiness people are actively working to take away from them.

Their love IS LOVE. No amount of fearmongering and prejudice will ever change that.

I'm getting ready to do a rush wedding next week and I'm having some big feelings. I'm feeling a lot of anxiety and worry--for my couple and all the LGBTQ couples I married before them.

I remember the first Civil Union I officiated when NJ offered that as a separate and not entirely equal alternative to legal marriage. When I pronounced the couple joined and they kissed, a huge sigh if relief passed through everyone the room.

Having even that less-than-equal acknowledgement of their relationship was huge.

But we all wanted so much more for them.

I was so happy when marriage equality became law.

It's heartbreaking that this very basic right--to get legally married-- may be stripped from these loving families in the near future.

I believe the civil institution of marriage should not be defined by anyone's religion. Some countries make couples have a civil ceremony to get legally married and then they can have a religious or spiritual ceremony if they want one. We should have done that here.

My heart hurts and I am giving a lot of thought about how to serve these couples and families in the future.

We don't know what laws will change. It might be a good idea to ALSO look into other legal protections and estate planning.

This video has some suggestions.
