Chelsa + Thomas | Scotland | Engagement

When Chelsa + Thomas were booking and mentioned they had flight vouchers for a trip to Scotland that was previously cancelled due to Covid, I mentioned it would be cool to do their engagement shoot there. To my surprise, they immediately said, “yes, let’s do it!” Kaylie and I first met in Edinburgh as students in 2005 so this was the perfect opportunity to revisit our old haunts, see family and bring our toddler along with for the adventure. Our two day shoot took in the sights of Scotland’s capital and a 6 hour drive through the Highlands with stops in Glencoe, Eileen Donan Castle and the Isle of Skye. It’s one of our favorite places in the world and we were happy to create and capture new memories! Can’t wait for the wedding (in Des Moines)!

As we get ready to photograph our last wedding of the year on New Year’s Eve, we thought it would be fun to look back on some of our favorite pictures from 2021. Thank you to all the couples who entrusted to document their day and to Carter and Chase who stood in as second shooters when needed. It was a busy year but one with plenty of great memories! Winter mini sessions return! We're offering them on Sunday, Nov. 14 at the The Whistler Studio in the East Village. The backdrop will be minimalist, a little like the ones below.

Gotta love a bride that's willing to go into a muddy, spider filled rickety ol' row boat in her wedding dress. Hopefully, the pictures are worth it.

Funny story: When the groom tried to flip the boat on the shoreline it managed to set itself free sailing into the middle of the pond. A groomsman, fueled by a few tasty beverages, immediately stripped down, jumped in and swam ashore with boat in hand. That's a best man right there! Picture in the comments!
