One week ago ... what an epic sunrise to sunset elopement day with these two! Shelby and Chad first met while camping with mutual friends. Seeing each other here and there afterwards led to a first date, and then quite the story of shared adventure with each other! Camping, hiking, kayaking, snowboarding… It's that love of the outdoors that led them to an experience where they could do exactly what they love together while spending quality time with loved ones.

They were after a specific type of scenery for their elopement and wanted to start the day with a “real” hike to sunrise, and we knew just where to take them! Hiking up to a tall peak by moonlight, first look as the sun rose and private vows kicked off their day together.

Returning to their incredible lakeside vacation rental, they prepared for the wedding with family at their side, and then shared in a beautiful, intimate & private wedding ceremony in the warmth of the autumn sun. A little more adventure on the way back to catch the last of sunlight and then ending the day with a fun reception with everyone!

Last weekend with Mary & Alan, what a gorgeous day for an intimate wedding in the Tennessee mountains!

We remember our first conversation with these two like it was yesterday. They came to us after having gotten all twisted up over wedding planning and trying to figure out what it is they wanted — much less how to accomplish it all. We took it step by step and their perfect day became clear… spending time with their kiddos, family and friends; to have a touch of tradition, and to have time for themselves too. Then we got to work creating the perfect blend of all these experiences!

The Gatlinburg / Pigeon Forge area was the perfect place for them. Lots to do in the area to make it a getaway destination that everyone would enjoy, and a great selection of rental cabins too. With their date being in peak season, we knew these mountains would be super busy so they took our suggestion to book an epic cabin rental and to have the ceremony there! We plan LOTS of “Airbnb” elopements and given the right property, host and preparation it is a great alternative to getting married at public overlooks with lots of traffic flying by.

After their emotional ceremony (so many happy tears!) we escaped to one of our favorite spots nearby where they had some downtime to enjoy a picnic together (and photos too of course!). Then we joined everyone back at the cabin for dancing, toasts, cake and an amazing dinner to end the day!

Mary & Alan, we have been looking forward to this day for over a year and it brought us such joy to spend the day with you and your amazing people! Thank you so much for trusting your wedding day plans and photography to us!

Last week, Janet and Matt's beautiful elopement in North Georgia was incredible! They have always loved the North Georgia area and wanted to elope there with closest family at their side. There’s a LOT of options in the Georgia mountains; but to have the most privacy and a quiet setting, we decided on a ceremony location at an Airbnb. We found this absolutely gorgeous property with multiple decks, big picture windows and the perfect yard for a ceremony. We loved that this place provided a stress-free environment, complete with all the comforts of home.

Janet's son proudly walked her down the aisle, and then Matt & Janet exchanged vows in a heartfelt ceremony, with their beloved dog Guinness at their side. After the ceremony, we took off on an adventure to a nearby lake where they took in all the views and a waterfall too! Later, we gathered at The General Ledger in Blue Ridge for an intimate dinner celebration, savoring the joyous moments of the day.

Janet and Matt, we are immensely grateful for the trust you placed in us to plan and photograph your elopement. We will always cherish the moments we shared and wish y’all many more awesome adventures together!

One week ago with Kelsie & Patriot! Little did we know only a few days later the Asheville area would be changed forever because of Hurricane Helene. We are so thankful this beautiful day could happen for them. Please join us in celebrating their day!!

These two came to us wanting a day that felt just right for them and not an overwhelming big wedding experience. They love being outdoors and being surrounded by friends and family, so off we went to create the perfect blend of everything they were looking for!

The day started at a big, luxurious home near Asheville for getting ready. It was an amazing property with plenty of space inside and out — just like a small wedding venue! First look with dad (always love those moments) and then Patriot, with so many emotions all around!

We spent some time taking in a waterfall, and then on top of the mountain everyone gathered around for their ceremony. So many tears of joy 🥹

After time with their loved ones, we took off for some time just for them. Hiking up a mountain we landed at the perfect spot illuminated by rays of the sun through the clouds — and that’s where they chose to say their private vows to each other. Y’all, whether you elope or choose a big wedding, make time for each other. It’s these moments that are so precious.

We returned to their rental home to a joyous reception of dances, toasts, cake cutting and hanging out for dinner. Perfect way to end the day!

Thank you everyone who has reached out to us. The last 48hrs has been difficult; we are still without power and have very limited internet. Very thankful our StoryBright team is safe and have access to the basics.

There are many, many people who are far worse off & we want to encourage everyone to pray over those in need and our amazing first responders, utility workers, volunteers and more who are dealing with the worst right now. Then take steps to offer support. We've seen entire towns devastated. Our suggestion is Samaritan's Purse but please help wherever you can.

While we are so very thankful we are ok, it hurts our heart to see the tragedy and loss of life that we are witnessing in the mountains. But we are also seeing stories of heroes doing amazing things. John 1:5 tells us: "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it" (NLT). Let us be that light to our neighbors to help everyone get through this time.

To our couples with upcoming weddings, you are on our hearts. We are working hard to try and understand the impact to your plans and are here to support you! Once our internet and power are stable (hopefully in the next few days) we will be reaching out ❤️

Rosemary & Alton … a dreamy blend of a day from adventure to a small wedding with family and friends!

These two came to us with a vision of an adventure elopement for just the two of them, but needed a way to blend that with time with loved ones from near and far (many countries away!). We’ve actually been getting a LOT of requests for this kind of day, so if this is on your mind then read on for inspiration!

We started the day before dark, warming up to coffee in our van. Then they used our van to change separately before their first look just after dawn. What an epic moment, for them to see each other with the golden sunrise all around!

After that we have a few snacks and more coffee (we were up early y’all!) and then headed back down the mountain to take in a short waterfall hike and more fun photos together!

Then we drove into downtown Greenville to meet up with everyone for a beautiful ceremony & reception. Y’all, what was shared during “toasts” and “speeches” pulled at our heartstrings and had us laughing too. There is nothing like being surrounded by the people you love, remembering times past and looking forward to the future together.

Brittany & Cale — 06.01.2024 ❤️🎉🥂

Still (almost) speechless from this day y’all. We’ve been trying ever since to write an IG caption to speak to it all and every time it just felt so flat compared to what we felt about being alongside these two.

When we first spoke to them about their vision for their day, they described themselves as “two quiet hearts that are thankful to God that He allowed them to cross paths… now instead of looking for adventure alone, life is sweeter adventuring together.”

Could not have said it better ourselves.

They started the day with a “first prayer” to talk about their day and pray together — around a corner — to save the first look for walking down the aisle. And what a moment that was when Brittany walked down the aisle. I think everyone needed to take a pause from the happy tears ❤️.

They exchanged vows in front of their closest family and friends, and then shared in a group prayer with everyone surrounding them with love.

A beautiful first dance and reception with a delicious meal followed, and then off we went to adventure in the mountains — stopping for an impromptu coffee, dancing at waterfalls, taking in all the sights, and ending the day with a picnic at the riverside, reminiscing on the most perfect day. We even took a few polaroids on the way too 😊.

Brittany and Cale, our hearts are full to overflowing with joy for the time we spent together. Words still cannot describe what it meant to us to be alongside you for this journey of making this day a reality. You will always have our prayers for many, many more sweet adventures together!

Happy One-year Anniversary to these two!

One year ago, M+T chose a "just us" experience in the mountains, to be surrounded by breathtaking scenery and to focus on their relationship with each other and before God. It was such a magical day together! We were overwhelmed seeing all the notes of love sent by family to support them on their day. It truly felt like everyone was there in spirit!

Then we ventured to one of the most private spots we know in the Blue Ridge mountains for a private secluded ceremony (with no one around on a busy holiday weekend) & celebrating with big views all around!

M+T, we will always remember this day and miss you always!

Last Saturday with Rachel & Hunter… still in awe of our fun day together!

May has been a rainy month for us and this turned into yet another elopement where we had to resort to backup plans. But if we hadn’t told you, we bet you couldn’t tell looking through the photos! We adjusted for weather here and there and still showed these two a great time!

These two are used to mountain weather, and the Blue Ridge Parkway holds a special place in their hearts for so many reasons. They also wanted a day that brought back memories of their journey with each other after they met, and the day they were engaged too. After showing them all the options across the mountains, they decided they wanted to experience a new area of the Parkway near Asheville … and off we went to put together this day for them!

We started at a gorgeous rental home with space for everyone to meet up for a morning brunch; then they shared quite the emotional first look outside with mountains in the background. We were watching the weather that day really closely because of the forecast for the afternoon … and were able to time their ceremony right before any showers came through! Then a picnic together at a waterfall (umbrellas at the ready for the on/off rain showers) and first dance together at last light of the day; in perfect seclusion to cap off an epic day together. But wait, there’s more … to heck with the rain, let’s pop champagne!! Altogether an exhilarating & relaxing day—just what these two adventurers were looking for!

One week ago with Rita & Jacob; so many stars aligned for the perfect day!

Date nights for these two are all about getting Thai take-out for dinner, driving to a remote mountain overlook, and watching the stars (and fireflies) for hours on end. They wanted their wedding day to reflect their love for being outside and include their families in the experience too. We were so happy to create this day for them!

With a twist of having a long-distance relationship (literally an ocean away from each other), we helped them put together the perfect destination elopement in the NC mountains, handling all the details! Rain brought some challenges on the day (which fogged in the view of their intended ceremony location) but we had backup plans at the ready! We switched to having the ceremony at their VRBO which had gorgeous views from a lower elevation, and for private time after their ceremony we took them to a second, more secluded waterfall for their first dance. Rejoining everyone for a reception at the house (bubble machines are really fun y’all!) they ended the day with an amazing dinner & cake too!

Rita & Jacob, thank you so much for trusting us with your day and allowing us to be alongside you for this whole journey together. Wishing y’all many more adventures under the stars together!

Last weekend with Caitlyn & Coburn y’all—what an amazing day together!

Take a look through these photos and would you ever guess… this was our backup plan for the day? You’d never know, right?

We had plans of a day with their ceremony high in the mountains and a hike together to take in all the views, but nature had other plans with the amount of rain coming through. Seeing the forecast we proposed a few different ideas as the day approached; and ultimately we pivoted to a day at their Airbnb which was a beautiful farm stay! (pro tip: always have a SOLID backup plan, such as your lodging location or an alternate space).

We shifted to having their ceremony in the beautiful setting of a rustic farm with mountains in the distance, enjoying time outside when the rain would let up. Altogether it was an epic fun day amongst friends and family! All topped off with an inside reception for an amazing dinner and dessert & bar service too!

Caitlyn & Coburn, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for trusting us with designing your day & with all the changes we shifted to with the weather. It truly was an epic time together & we loved every minute being by your side!!

Want to elope in the mountains in the spring? Here’s a pro-tip: the landscape you’re looking for is probably during the summer months!

During the spring calendar, most of the southeast is in bloom; but at higher elevations, where most of the views are, the area doesn't green up & bloom until June/July.

In fact, even into mid-May the landscape at the highest elevations of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Smokies can still look like winter!

So don’t write off a summer elopement. It’s a great time to be in the mountains, and when the wildflowers are putting on an amazing show. And … it is the last part of our year to book up. So if you’re thinking you missed the boat on a spring landscape for your elopement, there’s still time! One week ago with Sue & Brett … our hearts are full from this day y’all!❤️

You’ve heard us say it before and we’re going to keep saying it … every elopement we get to create is unique, because of the story you bring to it. It’s our job to make sure the day reflects exactly what you want, and then you get to live every moment to its fullest!

If there was one common thread woven throughout the whole day for these two, it was being with the people they loved. People who had stood by them in hard times and good; and to share in the joy of a wedding day that brought faith, family & friends together in a celebration that will be remembered forever!

A big traditional wedding just wasn’t their speed, so Sue & Brett chose to have a day amongst their loved ones and doing all the things they loved too. Starting their day in a mountain cabin amongst family, having a first look in private to pray together, then off we went to a “sanctuary in the sky” for their ceremony! Sweet moments of happy tears & laughs of joy made for a beautiful, intimate ceremony. Then we returned to the mountain cabin for a fun reception of dancing to live music, enjoying amazing food, time next to the fire & looking back on the best day ever!

Sue & Brett, being alongside y'all through this journey of wedding planning & experiencing an amazing day together is something we will carry deep in our hearts forever. We are so very grateful for our time together!

Thinking about a reception on your elopement day? Tip: it doesn’t have to be at a restaurant or pricey event venue!

One of our most popular ways to plan a reception is to have it at a gorgeous rental home! Not any property will do however; when we’re shopping around for places that are a good match for you, we are looking at them as mini-wedding venues, so there’s a long list of requirements that we’re looking for!

Just a few examples … is there good indoor lighting? Are there good outdoor living spaces we can use for reception activities? Are there views or natural features that will photograph well? Is there covered space in case of rain? And most of all—is the host event friendly?

Most of the time it’s that last requirement that we’ve seen derail plans for an elopement or reception at an Airbnb. But we’ve got that solved for you because we have connections to event friendly hosts and property management companies 🙂.

One week ago with Montana & Erick in Blue Ridge Georgia!

Wanting to experience an intimate day with family, and in a beautiful natural setting with privacy from the rest of the world, we decided on an Airbnb wedding together for the elopement day! Finding the right property & elopement friendly hosts are key when planning a day like this, and we love connecting our couples with Airbnb hosts & property managers we know who “get it.” Whether it’s hiking to a mountain top for an elopement or being your day-of wedding coordinators at an intimate Airbnb wedding … we love both!

They started their day easing into the morning having breakfast, enjoying the view for some time alone together; then separating for a time of getting ready in different spaces in the cabin (pro tip: book a large home, larger than you think you need!). After having their first look in private, their families joined alongside for a beautiful ceremony overlooking farm pastures, mountains and the river below. First dances together, a delicious dinner prepared by a private chef, sharing toasts and cake made for a super fun reception together to end the day!

We just released the video for this beautiful couple! One of the things we love the most about video is how it’s such a great storytelling medium. While stills allow you to freeze moments in time (and print them beautifully to hang in a special place at home), filmmaking brings the opportunity to take you back in time and experience the day all over again. Something that’s not talked about a whole lot is - based on so many surveys after traditional weddings - video is the number one thing couples wish they would have added to their day. Yes, it is a regret for sure. We believe that for elopements, having a keepsake Highlights Film is even more important. What a perfect way to share the experience of your day with friends and family who weren’t present. It is both documentation of your best day ever & a gift to loved ones who might not have been able to make the journey. If you’re planning to elope, we suggest considering the idea of video.
