This week we are preparing for Tu B’av. Tu B’av is the Jewish holiday of love (our very own Valentine’s Day). Our menu is made up of the things you love and and asked us to make for you. My favorite is the shepherds pie that we make with Israeli seasoning.
About Tu B’av - It is told that on that day the women of Jerusalem would dress in white and go to find their “shiduch”- “besherd” (their match) in the fields vineyards.
The reason the women would dress in white is so that they would all be looked as equal and you could not tell who was rich and who was poor.
Nowadays Tu Be'av is celebrated in Israel with big love festivals. In my mind, it was the closest I ever came to a Woodstock kind of a festival.
All the restaurants would have special love themed menus, and dinner reservations would be sold out months ahead.
Of course, this year everything will be different. Until things will go back to normal it's nice to have memories. -
