William Russell (1777-1813) was a British magician and illusionist, considered one of the most skilled conjurers of his time. He was known for his clever tricks, illusions, and sleight of hand, and was particularly famous for his "Transparent Glass Plates" trick, where he appeared to make objects disappear and reappear under glass plates.

Russell was also a prolific writer and published several books on magic, including "The Complete Wizard" and "The Conjurer's Guide". He was a member of the prestigious "Society of Magicians" and performed for royalty and aristocracy.

Despite his untimely death at the age of 36, William Russell's legacy as a master magician and contributor to the art of magic continues to inspire and influence magicians to this day.
