There are a lot of titles that I wear in this life that I absolutely adore: Wife, Mama, Daughter, Aunt, Friend- to name a few. But one that I never expected I would have is this one: Boss. ❤️ It’s one that I’m still not sure I deserve, as our staff feels more like friends and coworkers to me. But like this cute mug one of our amazing staff members gifted me so cutely shows, the title of “Boss Lady” is one I’ll keep striving to grow into. Because I don’t believe in doing anything halfway. 💕 Building up a business and then finding staff you love and trust enough to pass some of it off to is no small feat. (Because holy smokes, we could NOT do it alone.) Aaron and I are lucky to have only the best of the best- who love our couples just as much as we do!

It was my absolute pleasure to get some of these “queens” in a room for dinner and drinks + a belated 5th birthday party for The Brim, complete with tiaras and laughter and a hotel night away from our everyday routines. They deserve all of it and more. I still can’t believe this is what I get to do. Feeling so absolutely humbled, blessed, and grateful these days- and every day!

I (Aaron) am a happily married man. I hadn’t really considered the dating scene until some folks brought it up to Kelsie and me. Turns out the dating scene is pretty rough. It’s become increasingly difficult for people to meet other singles and make meaningful connections. When Kelsie and I started to dive into it, we realized we had the ability to do something. That’s why we started BRIX Speed Dating.

We put up some QR codes around the city (maybe you’ve seen them), and we’ve hosted about seven events so far. They’ve been some of the most electric evenings we’ve ever had at The Brim. The reality is that people need this. While some dating apps have worked for certain people, they have also failed many others.

To sit across from someone for three minutes, shake hands, look each other in the eyes, show respect, and simply “see” if there’s something there is extraordinarily powerful. I almost can’t describe what we witness at these events.

We’ve seen numerous relationships begin, and we’ve even had confirmation that multiple couples are planning to get engaged.

Our next event is on Friday, April 11th. I hope you’ll share this with friends who need it. Ages 23 to 39 can participate this time. It’s going to be the last event we host for a while since wedding season is picking up and we don’t have many available dates. Every event we’ve ever hosted has sold out. My goal is to turn no one away from this one, and to pack the space as full as possible. We’ll spill out onto the patios and the grass if we have to.

Just a little chapel appreciation post. 😍 (And also, I’ve never seen a bad Brim sunset!!💕) Twenty three sweet couples said their vows here in March, and now we’re pumped to welcome 24 more (and counting) in April!

FIVE YEARS. 😍🥳 Today we celebrate five years since our very first Brim wedding. The sweetest couple was ready to be married before the stay at home order began, so we borrowed my parents’ folding chairs for their guests. The Bride’s dad walked her down the aisle via FaceTime in our outdoor ceremony space; we watched from our truck in the parking lot with our newborn baby girl in the back- there would have been more than ten people gathered if we had been seated. It was nothing any of us expected, and yet it was absolutely perfect. 🥰 The chapel now sits behind where they stood- where the pavers still sit. Feeling wildly grateful for the last five years and all they have meant for us, for The Brim itself, and for our couples. 😭Forever grateful for all who believe their marriage matters too and choose to start it with us. Cheers to many more!! 5️⃣

Windy, rainy days like today make me think back to tent receptions. 💨 Days (not so long ago) when we had to clip linens to tables and pray the rain wouldn’t rush under the tent during first dances. The days we used to roll the tables from the chapel to the tent between weddings and hope people brought wind resistant decor so it didn’t blow away. 🙈 The days of side panel walls and tent heaters, QT bar drop offs and coolers full of ice. (And let us not forget everyone’s fave- the portapotty days!🤣) Those were sweet, challenging days with incredible couples - days which make us even more grateful for where we are now. 💕

Were we crazy? Probably. 😜 Some of you likely thought we were (it’s okay- so did some of our friends and family 🙈). But the best kind of crazy gets behind a cause and a dream and does whatever it takes to make it a reality: hours and hours of sweat equity, plenty of learning, and a willingness to wrestle with the unknown. This is the view from near where the chapel now sits, looking back to where the reception space now sits: places that only existed in our mind back then, which now welcome hundreds of couples and guests per year. 🥹 We’re coming up on our FIFTH anniversary and I can’t quite believe it. Forever grateful we didn’t give up on this crazy idea. ❤️

7.18.20 | A throwback cake and toast under our Amazon tent (which we would put up and take down after every event pre-chapel 🙈). Our middle baby girl was 6 months old. I had just gone on sabbatical from teaching and had no idea how the next year (or 5!) would go. I remember holding on to the poles behind my back on this particularly windy day, and of course I had to make sure those portapotties were spotless. 🤣 You can spot the gravel path to the outdoor ceremony space behind me. What a time!

Free ceremonies. Cake and toasts. One gorgeous chapel and two ways to save a ton of money and get the beautiful day (and stunning photos) you want. Weddings aren’t one size fits all and you don’t need your day to look a certain way for other people. Come make it yours with us. 💕

Thirteen years ago, this guy brought a rose and a stuffed bear to my table at Parent/Teacher conferences. I was in my second year of teaching High School English, he was a Senior in College, and we were one month away from “officially” being boyfriend and girlfriend. ❤️ Today, we are off on an adventure with our three precious valentines, both full time in our business, and getting ready to start season six and surpass 1,000 weddings at The Brim since March of 2020. Who would have ever dreamed?! 😍 Thankful for a valentine to dream and do life with. It’s not always perfect, and it’s not always easy. But we make each other better, and we choose each other every day. PS. I watched our youngest play with the bear this morning. 💕 🧸

Marriage matters is more than just a catchy “slogan”. It is what drives us in every aspect of our business decisions, reminding us what TRULY matters when we help people invest in marriage over wedding. We believe this investment starts long before two people get engaged. In fact, we believe it starts before they even meet. ❤️ Brix Speed Dating has been the fruit of that idea- that making marriage matter in our community includes helping people find each other in the sea of online dating. To take this one step further, we’ve decided to start a matchmaking piece of Brix- where we gather data from singles to build a sea of profiles, then reach out to them when we see a potential match. And, like several things we do, we’re giving away the first 300 profiles for free! 🥳 Sixty have already been claimed- let’s help KC singles find their match! Last night we traded Brim polos and leggings for statement earrings and stilettos, as we celebrated being finalists for Venue of the Year at the .kansascity Wedding Vendor Choice Awards! 😍🔥 I wanted nothing more than for our dedicated team to be celebrated on stage, with our venue name and photo projected behind them. But the truth is, we won long before any hardware was handed out to deserving winners. 💕 It’s a win when we have so many incredible team members that we can’t fit them all at a VIP finalist table. It’s a win when we are the ones our encouraging Wedding Vendor peers thought of when writing in “Best Venue”- top 4 out of the hundreds of amazing spaces in KC. It’s a win when a bride calls us in tears because she can now get married at our space in two weeks- instead of the courthouse. It’s a win when we think back (not that long ago) to the days of portapotties, a gravel pathway, and some poles- to a name dreamed up behind a desk and to a start up turned into full time for us both. 🥹 It’s a win, and an absolute pleasure to serve 280+ couples a year and to work alongside all the hardworking vendors who show up for someone’s “best day ever.” It’s good to stay humble and hungry, but gosh are we ever grateful, thankful, and so incredibly proud of our team. Our perfect “after party” in the hotel lobby consisted of Pizza Shuttle and margs, swapping stories + goals, and laughing so hard we cried. We are blessed beyond measure. What a fun night. ❤️
