BEST WEDDING VENUE IN KC (BACK TO BACK)!!! 🥳😍💕🙈🥰 Thrilled, honored, proud, humbled- the list goes on and on. To start with a field and some poles (just babies ourselves, wrangling our own babies) and to make it to where we are: serving 270 couples this year alone and approaching our 1,000th wedding since 2020. I could cry. 😭 An incredible dream come true with commitment and the faithful support of so many. What a blessing. There are some really hard days and some really amazing ones, but through it all we are so proud of our team and the way they march alongside us to help make marriage matter in our community and to give our all for these couples and their big day. We are so grateful for all of the couples who have chosen us to start forever with. Free ceremonies, cake and toasts, and full receptions- we’re here for each of you and we have something for all of you with our free chapel on a hill! Thank you so much, Kansas City!! ❤️

Thirty three June weddings, preparing to move, three kids, two trips, and a baseball season later- yes, we are alive! 🤣❤️ It’s been a little more quiet around here for the last month- but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been busy. In the midst of the full season we’re in, I hope I never, ever stop being amazed at the beauty of this space and what people start here together- a new chapter, forever and ever. We are so grateful. 😍

Today’s our favorite day: June 15th: our wedding anniversary, and the day we opened both the chapel and the reception space. ❤️ I guess that makes it the chapel’s third birthday and the reception space’s first birthday!! Wild to think it’s only been a year since we said goodbye to our portapotties and tent receptions. 🥳 It’s been eleven years since our own first dance in our church’s “ministry center” aka nice version of a gym- but I never would have dreamed we’d be where we are today. So grateful!

Do you have helping hands? We’re looking for some. We’re looking for hands that will love and serve hundreds and hundreds of couples alongside our team- each playing a pivotal role in a long line of hospitality that starts with the first email and ends with the couple leaving our driveway at the end of their best day. ❤️ Hands that will open doors, set chairs, fluff trains, and (yes) scrub toilets. Hands that will pop bottles and pass tissues to Dad before he walks her down the aisle. Hands that will willingly jump in to all this and more (even when it’s “not our job”), that will place linens and decor with care and wipe up spills with kindness and precision. Hands that belong to someone with a positive attitude and a calm presence, someone also available on nights and weekends (preferably once a week- or more.) 🥳

If these hands sound like yours, here are your next steps. 1. Send us an email (it’s on the bottom of our website). In the subject line, put your first and last name, along with the title “I Have Helping Hands”. If you don’t do that, we won’t read your email. 😉 You can tell us anything you want to about yourself- attach a resume if you’d like, but you don’t have to. We believe you can learn what we need to teach you.

2. Create a one minute video answering this question: “What does service mean to you?” Make sure we can access and view it from your email.

Five years ago, I was sitting behind a classroom desk, newly pregnant with our second child and dreaming of a space that could exist on the land we owned. Some way, some how, some day, it would happen. ❤️We would invest in marriage and offer premarital workshops, and it would be called The Brim. Four days ago, I sat in a coffee shop working on contracts with that very name on them. I overheard a couple of girls across the room talking about wedding planning and a wedding one was recently in at a “cute venue near Smithville”. As I heard her say the name of the space, the same one that was stitched onto the polo I was wearing, I smiled. I didn’t reveal myself, but just knowing this is where we are now: three babies, two buildings, and hundreds of weddings later- being talked about in coffee shops and Facebook groups- a wave of gratitude swept over me. Now I send some of the same students that sat in my classroom down our aisle. 😍 How wild and wonderful and incredible, what a joy and an honor to be here with you and for you. Grateful is forever an understatement.

We hung up our first ever Brim sign in the office a couple of weeks ago: the sign Aaron cut out in his school wood shop and assembled on our coffee table as our baby girl peeked over. ❤️ It’s a tangible reminder of the days of linen clips, QT Bar drops, escaping to the car for A/C relief, and praying the tent would still be there when we returned. There’s so much it’s easy to take for granted: flushable toilets, a climate controlled reception space, the ability to put out linens without worrying about bird p**p or wind. None of these are luxuries we had this time last year. 😮 Wild! We also never want to take for granted our greatest asset: the amazing people who have supported and continue to support us along the way- telling our story for us and sharing our hearts. Happy 4th Anniversary to The Brim (and to our very first sweet couple). 🥳🥳 Can’t believe it’s been four years since COVID showed up and rocked the wedding world, since we borrowed my parents’ folding chairs and watched from Aaron’s truck (with our newborn baby girl in my lap) as our very first Brim Bride walked the paver aisle. I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again- a lot (like a LOT) has changed in four years, but our hearts for marriage and making it matter in our community never will. Thank you to all who have said yes to The Brim in the last four years (and in the years to come). You have made this all possible and we are forever grateful. ❤️

Sat down at a table at Starbucks today and realized it was the same one where we signed our first ever contract- a hard copy. ❤️ It was January 2020, we’d returned home from the hospital with our newborn baby girl the day before, and the couple really really wanted 10.10.2020. (None of us knew the wedding would be postponed due to COVID, they’d do something small elsewhere, and would eventually cancel with us.) So I put my postpartum self together, and drove over to meet them. I knew very little about what I was doing- we had some land, poles, and a portapotty. Four years, 597 weddings, and a few months later, I sat down at the same table and sent three contracts through the portal in five minutes for e-signatures. 😂 We have flushing toilets and two buildings, and another baby girl. So much has changed since then- but I’m here today to encourage you. ❤️ Dream the dream, chase it with all you have, make mistakes and learn from them, strive to constantly improve, find your processes, endure the hard days, and celebrate the incredible ones. (Kinda sounds like marriage advice, huh?) 😍 Cheers to that, cheers to you!!

Last night was our 5th Veraison Workshop since we started them in June of 2021 (when the chapel was brand spankin’ new)! 😍🥳 I counted up and we’ve had 95 couples so far invest in their marriage alongside us. 😭❤️ 95 couples who have said yes to making marriage a priority and putting in the work to make this amazing adventure (they’re starting together) work. We’re done with these workshops until the fall, but we always look forward to them- they are a highlight every time.

Aaron and I recently attended a beautiful two day meeting in Atlanta, complete with linened tables, catered lunches, projected videos, and endless drinks. 😍 We turned to each other and asked, “Why aren’t we offering something like this at The Brim? We’re the perfect size for it.” After all, we’ve been getting inquiries here and there about these types of events for a while now. Here we are, nearly eleven years ago, first dancing at our reception- which was held in the Ministry Center of our church, the place we first met. 🥰 I can’t tell you the type of meats we served, which flowers filled our centerpieces, or even the exact names of our DJ or Photobooth. But I distinctly remember the way I felt in his arms. ❤️ The “just married and on top of the world” moments are the ones etched into my memory. Were there choices to be made and experienced professionals to hire and hand off tasks to? Absolutely. Did some things go differently than we planned? Sure (especially my brother having an emergency appendectomy the night of our rehearsal and being released the day of the wedding 🤪)! But if, at the end of the day, you’re married to your best friend and ready to take on the world together, that’s all that really matters. The rest of the details are just, well, details. Hold them loosely, but hold the one that matters extra tight, and never let them go. Just a little reminder (almost) eleven years, four kids, and a business later. ☺️

It keeps whispering through my mind lately: “Do it for the couples.” ❤️ Do it for the ones who don’t want to go into debt to get married. Do it for the ones who need an option that offers them flexibility with vendors. Do it for the ones who want to elope, the ones who want to just serve cake, the ones who want to get married on a Thursday afternoon or the ones who simply don’t want their wedding to be a production. Do it for the ones who want to invest in their marriage- the ones who are celebrating a second wedding, the ones who have a precious baby on the way. So we’ll keep doing it- with this gorgeous chapel. We’ll keep offering free ceremonies and affordable options, stripping things down and simplifying them so that you can have the beautiful wedding that makes sense for you, not the one society tells you that you need to have.

When we dreamed of The Brim THIS is what it was about. Marriage > wedding. Lifetime > one amazing day. 💕 Now that we’re in our new space, we’re hoping to offer a workshop for those of us who are already married too (because there is ALWAYS room to grow and learn). Our first Veraison in the new reception space is in the books!! 🥳 What an incredible night with delicious barbecue and fine red wine, delectable desserts and 20 incredible couples who chose to invest in their marriage alongside us. If I’ve learned anything in the ten years since we said “I do”, it’s that you always have a chance and a choice to commit to strengthening your marriage- and I’m so proud of those who did so alongside us last night. ❤️ (Our workshop happens to have a refundable deposit, so those who chose to got their money back, making it free and accessible for all.) Truly, one of my very favorite events of the year. Can’t wait to share more photos!

Earlier this week, we were able to celebrate another successful season with our fabulous Brim Team 🥳 (we missed a few who couldn’t make it)! There is absolutely no way we could do what we do without them (re: 200+ weddings a year, wrangling 3 little kiddos, and managing all the backend work). We would have to turn away couples without them, and that’s never our desire. This team has given us the best gift this year: a chance to have one weekend night a week off with our family all together, and the longevity to prevent burnout and keep loving people well. ❤️ It’s not easy to “hand off” some of the business you built from the ground up to others, but this crew loves and serves beyond measure and we know things are in steady and capable hands with them. They are the ones who bring the magic to the Brim (which you see mentioned in our reviews). They are simply fabulous and we’re so grateful for them. Cheers to 2024 and another incredible season together!

2023. A monumental year. 🥳 225 total weddings. Opened our new reception space on our 10th Wedding Anniversary and did 63 receptions in it in six months. Said goodbye to our Portapotties. ✌️ Won The Pitch Kansas City 's Best of KC Wedding Venue AND Best Reception Venue. ❤️ Did 56 free ceremonies for sweet couples ready to seal the deal. Had a real office to pump in, instead of a car. 👏🏽 Won Kansas City Magazine 's Best of KC Best Wedding Venue. Coordinated 61 weddings with our incredible, hardworking team. Slept much better not worrying about our tent blowing away. 🙈 Named “Best Place to Get Married in Missouri” by Missouri's Best. Hosted 61 cake and toasts. Sweat a whole lot less in our air conditioned reception space, and no longer had bar drops at QT with coolers. 😂 Grew our team and learned a LOT about life, business, parenting, marriage, and more.

It’s not about the numbers, but they are a reflection of the couples we are so honored to serve- wild to believe that we have now had 571 couples say “I Do” on our 16.6 acres since mid-2020. 🥹 There are hard days and amazing ones, but we never want to forget the gift of this space and our unwavering desire to make marriage matter over wedding. It has been a wild, unbelievably incredible ride. Happy New Year to all!! 2024 couples, you’re up- all 154 of you (and counting). Can’t wait to send you down the aisle! 🥰

Did you know…we haven’t officially opened 2025 for wedding bookings yet? 👀 We always open the next calendar year the first week of January. (Which means it’s coming SOON! 🥰) Why? We’re passionate about giving couples a chance to have a beautiful wedding day- even if they have a shorter engagement. 🥳 (We love short engagements and elopements!!) We’re passionate about giving them free and affordable options. ❤️ And we’re passionate about making sure we feel good about the way we’re structuring our packages and loving on couples. Our marriage matters- so does yours. ❤️ We believe this wholeheartedly at The Brim. In fact, everything we do revolves around it. Aaron and I celebrated ten years of marriage in June. A few weeks ago, we snuck away to Playa Mujeres for a belated Anniversary Trip to unplug and recharge together after a busy wedding season with our new reception space. We’ve learned a lot in a decade of marriage (especially as coworkers), but we’ve found there is always more to be learned! 🥰 It’s our deepest desire that you will invest more in your marriage than your wedding day- so we’ve opened up our next session of the FREE premarital workshop we offer, Veraison. Popping back in from three weeks of social silence to share our (not one, not two, but) THREE nominations for the .kansascity Vendor Choice Awards. 😍😭🥳 The support of our vendor friends means the absolute world, as we are constantly blown away by all the talent that walks through our doors. We truly couldn’t do it without you- and we are humbled and honored to be considered for Venue of the Year, Company of the Year, and the Trailblazer Award.

Aaron and I have been SPRINTING for the last year (200+ weddings, a new building, and three little kids😅), so it was a treat to sneak away for a Belated Anniversary/Bday trip to Cancun, followed by Thanksgiving and a little family road trip to Tulsa. ❤️ We feel like we can breathe again, and are SO grateful for our amazing team and all the ways they love people so well and support The Brim’s mission to make marriage matter. 🥰 These nominations show just how amazing THEY are and we sure couldn’t do it without them. BEST WEDDING RECEPTION VENUE *AND* BEST WEDDING VENUE. 🥹😍🎉😭 We are absolutely floored to win Best of KC 2023 in BOTH our categories. ❤️ One year ago today, we were taking down our tent for the last time and sending it off to its new owner. Today, as we celebrate, I’ll go set up linens in our heated reception space, use our flushing toilets 😂, and make sure the bar is fully stocked. Then I’ll turn on the heat in our chapel, and smile as I think of the four weddings we’ll host this weekend and our incredible team who will love them well. When you remember the days of portapotties, coolers, tent heaters, and frigid outdoor ceremonies, (and working them all), where you are now means so much more. We are incredibly grateful for all who voted for us, cheered us on, and chose us to start their forever (whether it was in 2020, will be in 2024, or in all the days between). We are truly so honored, humbled, and encouraged. Thank you so much!

I took a second to count it up during naptime today (my girls napping, not me 😉), and we did 33 weddings in September. This weekend, we’ll finish out October- ending with 39. This means we’ll have hosted 72 weddings in the last two months. 72. 😮 If you’re wondering, yes we’re alive. 😂 In fact, our staff has been absolutely rocking it. It’s not about the numbers ultimately, though they serve as a tangible reminder of those we get to love on as they celebrate the start of a new chapter. 😍 It’s about the moms we sneak tissues to, the brides we bustle, and the grooms we watch tear up during a first look. It’s about those who whisper, “We thought were just going to have to go to the courthouse”, or those who genuinely thank us for giving them an option within their means- maybe last minute, or a vow renewal, or the wedding they never had but always dreamed of. We just found out we were nominated as a finalist for “Best Micro Event Space” in the Kansas City Engaged 2023 Couple’s Choice Awards. The fact that we’ll do over 200 weddings this year means we’re getting the unique privilege to meet and serve people who’ve been longing for the small and intimate, and for that we are exceptionally grateful and honored.
