In 2024, we donated over $150,000 to local organizations. Let's see what we can do in 2025! 💪

Last year was a landmark year for us in many ways, including the expansion of our donations program through our Mumkins fundraiser, record-breaking roundup campaigns, and partnerships with local schools, charities, and non-profits to give back to the community that has given us so much. We have even more planned for 2025 and can't wait to see how much we're able to give back with your help! Here's to a new year, and remember that when you shop local your money stays local, helping your community around you in more ways than you may think 💖

With a name like Geogenanthus, it's gotta be good! 🪴

Geogenanthus, or the much easier on the eyes Geo Plant, is one interesting little houseplant. These uncommon plants are in a genus only 3 members strong, and may not look it but are related to Spiderworts and Tradescantia. With their large, round, showy leaves, they're starting to gain popularity in houseplant circles. In the case of Geogenanthus ciliatus (try saying that 3 times fast), which is the one most people mean when they say Geo Plant, those huge glossy leaves are a dark purple that's so rich they can appear black! And before we drop it, what's up with that name anyway? Despite its daunting appearance, this name is a simple combination of Greek roots with "geo" for Earth, "gen" like genesis, and "anthus" meaning flower. Put this together for Earth-borne flower, named after this plant's flower stems which grow up from the ground. Don't let all these quirks worry you though, this uncommon beauty has pretty average care requirements! Geo plants like their soil kept moist but not wet, wouldn't mind a little humidity boost in our climate, and need medium to bright indirect light. Direct light can scorch their leaves, so a spot in the bathroom or near the kitchen sink but out of the windowsill would be ideal. Geo plants are also drama queens who will wilt when they need water, but just like other plants who do the whole fainting act, they'll perk right back up after you give them a drink. Take a chance on something new for the new year and add this handsome (and pet-safe!) plant to your collection 🖤

Don't miss KTMB's Christmas tree recycling program! 🎄 If you got a cut Christmas tree this year, Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful is running their annual tree recycling program that turns your tree into mulch used for w**d abatement and beautification projects in our local parks. All you have to do is take the decorations off your tree, bring it to one of their six recycling locations between now and January 6th, and for a $5 donation their volunteers will handle the rest!
