No matter what size yard, garden, porch, or balcony you're working with, you can make your home a great home for local birds too! 🐦

While we all want to do right by the birds, sometimes space limits what that looks like. That's ok, it's better to work with what you have than be discouraged and not offer anything at all! Birds need a range of resources to support them so small efforts can make a big impact all the same, especially as we head into early spring, one of the most challenging times of year for many species. Whether you have the area to add a birdhouse, a full size bird bath, and multiple feeders to your yard or if you only have room for nesting materials you can find around your home, a shallow water dish, and a window feeder, or something in between that best matches your space, all of it is helpful to your local feathered friends. There's no garden size requirement in order to help the birds, so do what's right for the space you have knowing every little bit counts towards keeping them healthy and happy!

If you're looking for a tree that stuns throughout the seasons, look no further! 🌳

The Canada Red Chokecherry is a great pick for color and interest all growing season long. Starting off with showy clusters of white flowers in spring, deep red-violet leaves that follow soon after, showy red fruit over the summer, and brilliant red color come fall, this tree has plenty to offer. Not to mention that at a nice medium size of 25 feet tall by 20 feet wide, the Canada Red Chokecherry is a perfect fit for most landscapes, plus it's able to handle a range of soil conditions and urban pollution, just give it full sun and don't let it stand in water. The chokecherries are even edible if you're looking for something unique to try baking with, preserving, or making wine out of! The only thing this tree can't do is plant itself, so be sure to come on down and help it make a home in your yard 😉

Look up, a total Lunar Eclipse will be visible this Thursday night! 🌕

A striking Blood Moon will be visible for all of North America starting this Thursday, March 13! A total Lunar Eclipse occurs when the moon is perfectly aligned with the Earth and the sun so that the Earth's shadow blocks the sun's light from the moon's surface, turning it an eerie blood red. Don't worry, monsters won't come to life or anything, but this astronomical event is about as rare as a Blue Moon, if not rarer depending on the alignment of the 3 celestial bodies involved. This makes it a treat to catch and unlike Solar Eclipses, Lunar Eclipses are totally safe to watch with the naked eye! We'll see the Earth's shadow start to block out the moon around 10:10pm here locally in Reno, with totality and the trademark blood red color lasting from 11:26pm to 12:31am, before the moon moves back into the light and the eclipse ends at 1:48am. You don't need to be in a particularly dark spot to see it, as long as the moon is visible to you you'll catch the eclipse so don't be afraid to set out that lawn chair and get comfy right on the porch or balcony, but it doesn't hurt to go to your favorite stargazing location to get the full experience! Don't miss out though, the next total Lunar Eclipse visible in the Western US won't be until next year, then not until October 2033 after that 🌟
