Hot Toddies-
Bourbon or whiskey,spiced and sugared,cold-weather c**ktail. Traditionally created for relaxation or to cure a cold, Hot Toddies were reputedly born in Scotland in the early 1700s. My favorite relation to this drink was a patron that said that nobody could make them like her dad. She was in her late 50's/early 60's. Her dad had long since passed away. She was a repeat customer who would travel over 50 miles because she said that for a moment, it felt like she had her father back.

Tom Collins

Basically gin with sparkling lemonade- the Tom Collins c**ktail was born of the Great Tom Collins Hoax of 1874. The hoax began as a game, in which someone would ask another if he'd seen Tom Collins, saying that this character (who didn't really exist) had been spreading rumors about him. The person would get caught looking about for the fictitious character and in the frenzy, the searcher would end up feeling foolish. "Madeist thou look!"

Anyone have any idea how the term "c**ktail" was invented? There are many stories that all sound possible from a waitress in old colonial America serving drinks with rooster feathers as a garnish to a European beer brewed with a dead rooster. The one that seems to hold the most weight is combining the leftover c**k barrels called "tails" and joining the words to form "c**ktail. " These drinks were then sold at a discount price in early the 1800's. Either way, the c**ktail has been a term used for the past 200 years.
