As an owner of a HUB certified small business, I was delighted to attend the 2023 NC STATEWIDE MED WEEK CELEBRATION!
This year's theme was "Driving The Legacy: Fueling Entrepreneurship".

Loads of great information and opportunities shared to support minority owned businesses.

All of the presentations were informative. Gloria Carney Shealey, Ph.D. talked about legacy building: generational wealth and Lenwood V Long Sr gave us insight on access to capital, including information on the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund.
NCDOT shared information on NEVI & Clean Transportation and the opportunity for minority businesses in the electrical vehicle (EV) stations space.

Keynote Speaker, Fred McKinney, talked about the supreme court's affirmative action decision and the impact on supplier diversity and minority business. Dr. McKinney reminded us of our history related to the success and treatment of minority owned businesses and how it all ties-in to decisions being made today.

Something else shared: The NC Department of Transportation Office of Historically Black Colleges (HBCU) and Universities Outreach Program is still accepting applicants for scholarships and the deadline is November 15th! Great news!!! Wake Tech and the Boys & Girls Clubs serving Wake County are teaming up!!!

What excitement in the air, during the announcement and celebration of a new community outreach partnership between Wake Tech and the Boys & Girls Clubs serving Wake County that will provide a full-time college liaison to support outreach and career exploration activities for middle school and high school members of the Boys & Girls Clubs throughout the Raleigh area.

The Wake Tech and Boys & Girls Clubs partnership is designed to educate and inspire students in underrepresented communities about the life-changing rewards of higher education and the workforce opportunities it can bring.

This initiative is part of Wake Tech's Reach and Rally strategic plan and aligns with the college's goal of increasing equitable access to Wake Tech programs for students from low-economic-health communities, including minority and low-income students. The partnership also supports the Boys & Girls Clubs mission to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

The upcoming hotel is expected to have a rooftop pool, 550 guest rooms and much more!
