Running a small business has taught me many lessons, but one of the most important is the value of staying true to my principles, even when it’s not the easiest path. Last year, I proudly supported Pride Month by offering specials designed to celebrate inclusivity and love in all its forms. While I knew this decision might not resonate with everyone, it was an intentional choice that aligned with my values and the vision I have for this business.
Yes, I’ve lost business because of that decision. And honestly, I’m okay with that. Honey + Oak Picnics was built on the foundation of creating beautiful, welcoming, and inclusive experiences. If that means losing the support of those who don’t share these values, so be it.
I also want to make it clear that my business does not and will not align with the divisive rhetoric that’s become so pervasive in the current political climate. My goal is to foster moments of connection and joy—not exclusion or negativity. If that approach costs me some business, I consider it a small price to pay for integrity and staying true to what I believe.
To my clients, supporters, and everyone who believes in creating a more inclusive and accepting world—thank you. Your support means everything, and I’m honored to continue creating memorable moments with you.
