The end of season came fast this year.
Looking at the landscape as it is now, it’s wild to consider that just a few short months ago, I was elbow deep in flowers.
The images of the fields were taken two years apart and the transformation still trips me out.
What a time to be alive.
This path is a consistent reminder that we are capable of transformations way beyond what we understand to be the current reality- but it takes a little grit, heaps of collective wisdom and loads of heart.
Feeling gratitude for this bit of land that has held me as I continue to figure out more and more how to pay forward all that she has so generously given.
So many beautiful folks came through this year to lend a hand 💕 it’s a gift to be able to cultivate a space where people can feel welcomed by the beauty of it it all while also being a part of the energy that shift the landscape and carry the season forward.
Now it’s time for deep rest, more elaborate home meals, planning for next season, reading until I fall asleep and probably too much television (suggestions for media are welcome).
Things will get a little quieter around here, but all is in stride with the season.

The best part of this is that you get first dibs on all the treasures we’ve been growing and saving this year- I mean we’re good company too 🤭 but wait till you get a load of what came out of the fields 💛

July has been full of early mornings, cold drinks, fluttering bugs, SO many #goldfinches , veggie seconds (from my neighbors, because who doesn’t love a random tomato snack?) sunflowers, seed saving, preserving, and so so many blooms- not to mention two volunteer watermelons in the strawflower.
Deeply grateful and humbled by the flowers blooming through this wild heat. Though, real talk, keeping them hydrated in the field has been challenging. You could fool the #lisianthus though! We trialed 8 varieties this year and they pumped out blooms like they are going for the gold or something 🤩

June went fast!
Currently winning against the bugs and feeling very full in spirit. We’re at our biggest footprint and I really could not have done it (not with this much internal peace anyhow) without the help of my farm friends 💕💕💕
It’s been a great summer so far 🌞

Last weekend I was gifted the pleasure of joining in on an #ikebana class led by a lovely woman who has been teaching for a while. The prominent language in the room was Japanese and to be lead in another tongue was humbling yet it became clear pretty quickly that those present shared the language of flowers. To be lead in a language not my own had my brain firing and overall I walked away inspired and hydrated by barley tea 🥰
Keep watching to see what I came up with.
Through the lens of Kakeiho, I learned about composing shapes and working through linear points guided by intuition as well as the naturally occurring shapes of the flowers.
Thank you to @drinkyuuz for asking me to join 💛🍋🌞

¡Tulipanes!
I used to say tulips were my favorite flower, and for a long time they were- but now I know better! 🤫don’t tell the tulips.
At this moment in time they are blooming in quantities worth counting. Something that always sorta floors me about this one is how after they’re cut, and they continue to bloom in your vase, they grow. They actually get taller right before your eyes. It’s neat!
Planted in November here in zone #7b, they do well in a temporary raised bed structure like the one pictured. Planting them this way allows for many to fit into a small space which really works out at our scale.
Just a little recap of some of the work that went into building our soil in 2023!
That green fluff is called cover crop and at the end of its cycle it’s chopped up or crimped down to break down in place.
Through a micro lens this process not only adds organic matter to soil but also captures nitrogen in a way that makes it better available to crops. Another plus if the sequestration of carbon, though, at this scale that’s a little harder to quantify but! The science is out there and it’s all good stuff 🤍🪱
happy spring equinox 🌞
welcoming the longer days with a full heart.
