Empowerment and elegance came together this week with SoFi’s 50th anniversary celebration of the Equal Credit Opportunity Act and launch of the "Give Her Credit" campaign, where $500,000 will be awarded to 50 individuals working to support women’s financial independence.

Co-hosted by and SoFi's Head of Investment Strategy, Liz Young Thomas, an incredible group of women gathered to commemorate the progress made toward financial equality and inspire the next generation of women to take control of their financial futures.

September 5 is the biggest of days for , as it is the birthday of not one, but FIVE figures instrumental to Nearest Green’s story:
- Fawn Weaver, Uncle Nearest Founder and CEO
- Ben A. Green, the author of Jack Daniel’s Legacy, who gave proper credit to Nearest Green;
- Clay Risen, who wrote the New York Times story about Nearest Green that started Fawn’s journey;
- Annie Bell “Mammie” Green Nearest Green's granddaughter, who made sure everyone she met, family or otherwise, knew about her whiskey-making grandfather;
- Jack Daniel, who Nearest Green taught the Tennessee whiskey distilling process he invented.

This 9/5 also marks the 5-year anniversary of the opening of Nearest Green Distillery, the first ever distillery to honor an African American. Over the past 5 years, the former walking horse farm has been transformed into a 458-acre property that is a master class in storytelling and history-making, and of course the home of Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey.

So today, raise a glass to Nearest Green and celebrate his amazing legacy.
