“Less is more BUT you know when to stop” this quote from hit me hard when I heard it during his workshop this past Saturday
Why? Because for me, so much of me/my designs is about more is more. A huge lesson that I keep relearning is to keep things more simple. So much of creativity is stretching beyond one’s comfort zone. I am always open to taking creative risks and pushing boundaries. Thats why I I love to keep taking classes with Master floral artists! Not because I don’t see myself a floral artist. I believe in myself & my creativity however, I haven’t hit my own personal goal yet… I may never hit that goal and that’s okay!! I keep my heart & mind open to what is possible. The road doesn’t end when you achieve something or earn the right to add initials after your name. It is all a cycle of endings and new beginnings.
This is why I commit to learning about new design styles/mechanics/techniques/new flower varieties any opportunity I get!! The journey is limitless!! Thank you for bringing World Class floral designers for us to observe and learn from!! I look forward to learning, practicing and sharing what I have learned and observed with each of you 🖤🖤🖤

An exploration of complex emotions through flowers… Anger (red with textures exploding out of Medusa’s head captured mid-scream in her anger), Envy (green with botanicals sprouting out of the head of Marie Antoinette-as her eyes are fixated upon something that she does not have and wishes she had ), Depression (dark purples and gestural flowers to echo the tears streaming down the small goddess’s face), Sadness (blues/purples & round mass flowers with the look of resignation on Athena’s face),
childhood memories of the made up monsters in our heads represented by the trio of doll heads and last but not least Venus (pastels colored florals representing beauty and happiness).
These floral designs were inspired by the headless Greco-Roman statue in the outdoor garden They were created in March 2024 for Art in Bloom DC 2024 .dc
Each of those emotions (anger, envy, depression, sadness, childhood monsters and happiness) correlates to a design (head).
I created multiple potential heads for the headless statue—allowing the viewer to choose which head/mental state they wanted to see for the headless body. I intentionally went for darker emotions rather than just choose happiness. I chose florals that would hopefully help to make the emotions clear to the viewer. From personal experiences, my mind can travel through many of these emotions within a day—sometimes even within an hour. It’s an acknowledgment of our own complex emotional states and being able to express them, not shy away from them.
As a floral designer, I create from a place where I see myself as a “floral translator” for my clients, expressing through flowers the emotions/vibe that my clients want to convey.

Angles and good photos matter!! ⬇️
I adore designing with flowers but I will let you in on a little secret… I also love photographing my work. Why? For one, it’s a great way for me to promote my artistry. Secondly, the camera does not lie!! My photos serve as the silent editor of my work. I take MANY photos of each design from different angles in natural light with a pedestal & backdrop, pipe & drape—you get the idea!!

Still life… wishing this for each of us in this new year-more moments of stillness, reflection & peace 🤍 Here’s a little something I created in Morocco with items I found on a hike in the Ourika Valley—no flowers in this composition—olive branch foliage (arranged in a sugar bowl from the hotel I was staying at) a walnut, olives, tangerines, kumquats and a tiny lemon. Simply creating something with what was found, it was freeing to not be searching for that perfect shade of a flower… keeping it way simpler. Big lessons learned & received 🧡
Grateful for each of my amazing clients everyday. Blessed to do something with my life that I truly love. Thank you 🙏🏼
