Today is a special day for us in the American Legion - still 2 million+ members strong.
Originally formed by US soldiers on March 15th 1919 - four months after WW1 ended while awaiting transport back from Europe - the Legion has been a strong veteran advocate for the past 104 years in our local communities, with the famous 1944 “GI Bill” among its many, many successes.

Happy 105th birthday, American Legion 🇺🇸🎂

We are well on our way to raise the necessary funds for our new roof at Westbrook American Legion Post 62 - and with the help of Jetblue’s Community Connection program - the public now has an opportunity to help our efforts reach the finish line for this building that has served as a community hub for 94 years!
On November 11th - Veterans Day 🇺🇸 - after the City of Westbrook’s 11am ceremonies - we’ll be drawing the winner of two round trip tickets good for a year anywhere that Jetblue flies - value up to $900. ✈️
$5 per chance, or iterations of 5 chances for $20.
Please PM our Post Vice Commander and Americanism Officer Phil Spiller if interested.
We will only be selling 1000 chances!

Tonight at our monthly dinner and program - we are honored to have City of Westbrook Economic Development Director Dan Stevenson join us on project and development updates in the city.
All veterans and guests are welcome to our monthly dinners catered by Profenno's Pizzeria & Pub on the first Wednesday of every month - starting at 6pm at 17 Dunn St in Westbrook.

Today is a special day for the American Legion - over 2 million members strong as America’s largest veteran organization 🇺🇸
Originally formed by US soldiers in March of 1919 - 4 months after WW1 ended while awaiting transport home from Europe - the American Legion was granted its Congressional Charter on Sep 16th, 1919 🇺🇸
Since then, the Legion has been strongest advocate for veterans in the nation - counting the famous 1944 “GI Bill” among its many successes 🇺🇸
And in 2009 on its 90th anniversary, Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins from Maine led our US Congress to declare September 16th as American Legion Day 🇺🇸
Here in Westbrook, the first Legion Post ( #62) was established almost 100 years ago to the day, in October of 1919 - named after the first Westbrook soldier lost during WWI, Stephen Manchester. 35 years later, Westbrook added its second Post ( #197) at the end of the Korean Conflict 🇺🇸

A great catered dinner by Profenno's Pizzeria & Pub, presentation by members of the Westbrook-Gorham Rotary Club, and first meeting of our 2023-2024 Westbrook American Legion Post 62 season.
Congratulations and thank you to longtime post member Phil LeClerc for his many years of service with the post, and a special thanks to current Rotary President Crystal Norton Brown and her team including American Legion and Rotarian member Carlo Giraulo who spoke of his volunteering efforts at the new Portland VA Clinic.
