“Doing the flowers” for someone you’ve known as long as I’ve known these two just hits different. It was an honor and an *extremely* cool experience to try to interpret their vibe with some blooms. Thank you both for sharing these! I’m obsessed. 🫶

Fall in a bowl 🍂

So I guess it’s time for us to embrace autumn?! I tried with the last bits of the garden—some hydrangea beautifully painted by the weather, my last few zinnias, foxgloves, and dahlias, some wild aster, and some other wispy bits.

I can’t do this. I’m from MIAMI 😭. Halppp.

Have a beautiful weekend out there.

“What’s your favorite flower?”

It’s such an impossible question to answer because the truth is that I’m a fair weather friend. When it’s in my face, it’s my favorite, when it’s season ends, I’m onto the next. (Not recommended for human relationships.)

That said, there’s one flower that tests my fear of commitment over and over. Behold the garden rose. She’s a dream for wedding work. Ridiculously gorgeous, fragrant, and long lasting with nuanced color. In my own patch, they flower from summer to fall and I’m always a little sad when I see the last blooms fading around now. Until next year, pretty ladies. I’ll try not to let the peonies come between us. 🫣

What’s the quickest way to take a centerpiece from average to 🔥?

Hands down—it’s local blooms. Nothing will grab your attention like a floaty cosmo grown a few miles from your wedding venue!

Most local flowers don’t ship well, so to ensure that they’re included in your day, find a florist who grows them or has connections to local flower farms. We’re extremely lucky to have a solid flower farming community here in New England.

I currently use a mix of local and imported blooms in wedding designs. This allows me the maximum freedom to curate a palette and vision just for you, to continue to do weddings outside of the local growing season, and to give you a pretty solid sense of what your flowers might look like ahead of time. It is my sincere hope that over time I’ll grow more again and use a greater percentage of local product because there’s really nothing prettier than a compote full of cottage garden blooms.

Want me to hunt down some special treasures for your day? Send me a message to get started on your perfect wedding florals.

It’s all in the details. ✨

And boutonnières are no exception. When it comes to selecting personal flowers for wearables, I try to include something special and uniquely you and your vibe. That might mean including a significant color, or flower, or a bloom to match a different piece. Bouts and corsages in particular also have to stand the test of time out of water because they’ll likely make their way into pictures all night. That means no delicate stems or flowers that can get crushed or snapped by a hug (or hand wiring those that might).

It’s a delicate balance that I *way* overthink to ensure the prettiest outcome.

I’ve made no mystery of the fact that my micro farm went to the weeds this year. Sometimes life comes at you fast and you have to pivot.

But pivoting doesn’t have to mean completely giving up on something that’s important to you. For some florists, the draw is the art, the occasion, something else. For me, right up there with witnessing your day, it’s the magic and the beauty of the flowers. Growing flowers speaks to me in a soul way.

So while I didn’t grow a whole lot, I managed to salvage enough blooms through the mess to include something from the patch in every bouquet. And in doing so, I hope that I made them that much more special.

So if you’re looking for a florist who will geek out next level about your flowers, find one or two rare treasures to include, and pour a lot of love into every piece, message me. 💐

I’ve started this post dozens of times in my head because I struggle to convey how life changing it can be to have someone in your corner. So I’ll just say to the man in the picture, thank you.

Thank you for believing in me and my dream. Thank you for the pep talks, the long drives, the late nights, the endless trips into and out of venues and rental vans, the flower Tetris, the candle sorting, the chicken wire wrangling, the business advice, the life advice, the reminders to eat, the knowing my favorite treat, the hugs after all nighters, the braving cucaracha-filled hotel basements, the being the bigger person, the making sure I didn’t fall off ladders, the critiques, the encouragement, the fist bumps after a long day…just all of it. You were the silent force that kept this thing going and helped us make real magic. I could not have done this without you and I’m so grateful that I didn’t have to try.

With this wedding season over, I look forward to many, many weekends of down time and to coming back rested enough to tolerate your terrible taste in post wedding snacks.

So you wanna repurpose some of your wedding flowers? Here are some things to consider 👇:

💐 Scale: Does the piece that you’re considering reusing “fill up” both spaces without overpowering them? For example, a bridal posy might look fitting in front of a human, but it would look minuscule in the center of a 10-person table.

💐 Viewing angle: Will your guests look at it from the same angle in both places? If not, that could mean more labor and product for your florist to make the piece look “right” in every context. Most florists will recommend using floor pieces only on the floor. There’s some flexibility there with stands in my opinion, but the point is that to get the viewing angles right requires lots of forethought and planning.

💐 Style: Maybe you chose a really lush ceremony design and went more minimalistic in your reception space. Does it make sense to mix those lush pieces with the simpler ones? Maybe!

So it’s not as simple as plopping pieces wherever and calling it a day. But if you work with your florist and remember that flipping pieces does involve more labor, you can sometimes get two times the impact from one investment.

Swipe to see how we reused Z & N’s fluffy ceremony floral meadows as elevated centerpieces, which really filled out their tented reception space at the beautiful .

When discussing colors with your florist, remember 👇

You can have them ALLLL. Limited color palettes are beautiful, but in my experience, the little-bit-of-everything kind are elegant and surprising in a different way when done thoughtfully.

If you’re looking for colorful floral inspo for your big day, welcome, friend!

Today marks the start of my 37th trip around the sun.

I’m walking into this next go with what feels like a very different life. I’m now a single mom with a blossoming business that I have such big ideas for. It’s definitely not where I thought I’d be, but for the first time in a long time, I have complete faith that it’ll all work out. With a lot of gratitude in my heart for you, who’ve supported me through this evolution in big and small ways, I offer these nuggets of 37th birthday wisdom:

1. Change can *really* suck, but it’s the only way to make room.

2. Really believe that you are worthy of good things, and good things will come. You’ll be better at both discovering them and accepting them into your life. 2a. Don’t ever be the one to tell yourself no about a good thing.

3. Just keep going. Whatever it is. If you feel in your heart that it’s for you and you can see it clearly, that’s all you need. You will find the way because you know exactly where you’re going. No one else needs to understand it but you. Be consistent and you’ll get there.

I say all this not having a specific achievement in mind, but having learned that there is *a lot* of joy and fulfillment in chasing a dream. So, if you’ve ever tapped that little heart thing, if you followed me when I was an anonymous little ranunculus corm, if you bought a bouquet from a cart on my lawn or a booth at a market, if you let me come to your house to drop off flowers, if you rooted for me, if you let me talk your ear off about dahlia tubers, and especially if you trusted me on one of your most special days, thank you, thank you, thank you, and cheers to another year growing and hanging out together 💕.

IT’S TIME! Yep, it’s time to order your holiday wreath! For real!

*One week only* I’m offering a handful of discounted preorders. Prices are going back to normal next Wednesday. I’m doing this to cover some of my upfront costs for making wreaths and swags for the . I’ve updated the website with three options:

1. The Cora Wreath: this is the classic wreath pictured here with a mix of fir, boxwood, and other seasonal greens plus cinnamon sticks and pine cones. This year I’m using burnt orange ribbon.

2. The Mystery Wreath: this is exactly what it sounds like. I’m buying in some interesting ingredients like berries and maybe orange slices and I’m going to get creative. If you have an adventurous spirit and are up for a surprise, pick this one.

3. The Mystery Swag: just like the mystery wreath, but in swag form.

All wreaths are about 22 inches across and come with a ribbon for hanging. Get one now or find me at Kilroy Square the last weekend of November and the first weekend of December!
