It’s not too late.

Getting your hands in the dirt, caring for something, and watching it grow makes you grow, too. Especially when you get the privilege of both growing and sharing.

It’s still early in the season and not too late for you to grow your own beautiful flowers! Or, if growing is t your thing, go outside and walk around in the growing nature around you! Your heart will thank you.

Happy Wednesday!

These are the kind of pictures I love the most because they are fun and personal. A fun background (I have always been a tractor girl 😉) helps add a little something extra to your already great photos. We love seeing you beautiful AND having fun! We love bridal bouquets because they help let your personality shine! That’s why we focus not on specific flowers, but on the colors and style that will compliment and show off you! So flaunt it!

Also I’d like to title these Beauty & the Beast. I can’t even with these pictures I just adore them. I love this lady, these flowers, and our giant tractor 😂 The last pic is from my wedding day by and it’s one of my favorites 😍

Sometimes it’s hard to remember life can still be wonderful when they’re not in the world. But you just surround yourself with the people who love and support you and take it one day at a time. Because those people think life is wonderful because YOU’RE still in their world. 💚💛

Today’s Wednesday is a reminder to tell the people close to you that you love them. 🌻

Sometimes opposites really do attract! We love a bright, cherry, colorful palette. But we also love a rich, moody statement as well. How about something dynamic and dramatic by combining them both? What do you think?!

I’ve planned and helped others plan weddings before. Whew! We want to make your wedding florals as simple as possible while still putting your mind at ease that just because our process is super easy, it won’t detract that your flowers are going to be personal and stunning. By asking about your preferred colors and theme inspiration when we send out inquiries, it allows you to share your dream wedding goals and allows us to focus on creativity and style over specific flowers. It also means we can choose seasonal matches and, on the back end, if last minute a flower we had planned on doesn’t feel up to our quality standards or becomes unavailable, we can just switch it with something equally beautiful without you even needing to know (or stress)!

Not all wedding planning has to be hard, just let us be your easy peasy flower guide!

Which color look is your favorite? What theme or mood would you like to see next?

Let us make planning for your wedding easy and exciting by throwing out stiff, formal florals for a bouquet that is totally fun and totally you!

I know it’s almost the end of the month, but it’s never too late for an introduction post!

If you’re new here, my name is Melissa and I can’t wait for you to grow along with us! We just bought our dream land with plans to build a home and flower farm near Williamsburg, VA. In the meantime, I have spring flowers growing like these first tulips of the year and I will continue designing event florals. Prom is just around the corner 👗👔🪩 and it’s never too early to start thinking about corsage and bout season 🌹🌻🌸

If you’re here, you’re in for pretty flowers, building dreams, weekly motivational quotes, adorable fur babies, and overall uplifting and beautiful things. We are so happy you’re here ❤️💐

I love local flowers because *seasonality means exclusivity*. A spring wedding means beautiful spring flowers that are so special because *you can’t naturally get them at any other time of the year, which makes them so rare and unique*. Anyone can ship roses and baby’s breath from south Timbuktu, but you will stun and amaze with fresh hellebores and anemones. And seasonal snowdrops, spirea, and redbud branches give the perfect touch of soft, romantic whimsy. This bouquet is created from 100% local and florals which not only means supporting local flower farmers, but also no crazy chemical preservatives and worry about damaged and dying stems during long shipping.

Do you have a wedding or event coming up that you want to stand out and impress with fresh local blooms? We are still booking for the 2023 and 2024 season! And just like these seasonal beauties, don’t wait and miss your chance!

We were watching Schitt’s Creek last night and the last episode I watched before bed was Moira telling Stevie how cool she is as a person and how proud she was of her for starring in her show and how she knew no matter what happened in her future she would be fine.

As I was falling asleep, I reminisced about the time I was in a play in middle school and was proud of myself for stepping out to try something outside of my comfort zone. Then I started thinking about all the things I’ve done, all the things I’m doing, who I have become, and I felt overwhelming grateful and proud. One of my biggest accomplishments, and really one of the driving factors of who I am, is being an ED nurse. Jumping into such a crazy field head first right out of school and living this life for over 10 years now has pushed me and shaped me in so many ways. And although words cannot express my deep love of emergency medicine and the people I share these wild days with, I am thankful for another new opportunity to step out and try something new, and am again proud of myself for embracing the change (something that does not come to me naturally).

The week we closed on the property, I also accepted a new job in the hospital (part cath holding and part IR). This has already been an exciting year and it’s just getting started. Hoping this new opportunity will give me more time literally and mentally to spend in the flower world I love making our farm and this business come to life. I can’t wait to watch it bloom and thank you wholeheartedly for coming on this journey with me.

Seed grown flowers may be on hold for now, but, come April, the dahlia tubers will start to arrive and these beauties will be the stars of the late summer show! I have a list of saved and bought dahlias, but I’m a visual person and needed the pictures to get an idea of how they all look together. Aren’t they gorgeous?! It’s taking ALL the self control to not just add a few more 😝😉

Which colors are your favorite? I’m a sucker for the peaches 🍑💗

A part of me is so jealous watching so many other instagram farmers putting up all their videos of seed starting, knowing the trouble will be worth the gorgeous fields of color they get to harvest later in the year.

But taking a step back this year while we prepare to move and plan out the new property gives us time for my other favorite love. We have so many little trips planned already with more to come, and I plan on soaking up every minute 🥰

Pic from the beautiful Glacier NP which I would always recommend.

intense.

i am a gentle soul. i weep at the sound that the rain makes as it dances with the pavement. i break when others break. i am weak with awe at the sight of a sunset. or the twinkling of softened lights. i am overcome by emotion at the mere thought of suffering. but i am intense too - even fearless sometimes. i do not hesitate to fight battles. i am full of wilderness and passion and scars that did not come to grace this body without tremendous sacrifice. i do not let the world tell me how to be. i am what i am.

Swipe to see my frozen happy face because RANUNCULUS ARE HERE!

Okay, maybe HERE is a bit dramatic and presumptive, but they are alive and it’s the first green in the garden. Nothing makes a winter day more exciting than walking out and scouring over brown and dead leaves to see the tiniest bit of green stretching out to the surface. It’s like the Where’s Waldo of spring 🌱💚🎉

Get ready, flower friends! 🌷💐 will come when you least expect it! (Although you will expect it because you can be darn sure I am going to excitedly hype and share these babies 😝😉)

Mnemonic
Thirty days hath September,
April, June and November.
Unless a leap year is its fate, February hath twenty-eight.
All the rest hath three days more, excepting January,
which hath six thousand,
one hundred and eighty-four.
Brian Bilston

We made it! Did your January seem to drag on for a thousand years or fly by in a flash?

We are 1/12 through this year. If this is not a year you’re looking forward to, I hope that comforts you; you’re getting it done. If you had plans you’re falling behind on or feel the year is slipping away already, I hope this motivates you; there is still plenty of time.

Either way, the days are getting longer and the sun is making its way back to us again. Warm weather toys with us to remind us of Spring ahead. There is hope.

Happy Wednesday. Happy February. You’ve made it this far.

Anyone can grow or get flowers. But why do I love them? What is the heart of Grand Cannon Blooms?

I love having beautiful things to look forward to in life. I love going beautiful places. I love surrounding myself in my home with beautiful things. Beautiful does not necessarily mean expensive or fancy or extravagant to me. In fact it’s the opposite, as I am most myself in comfort and simplicity.

In our bathroom I had a couple little paintings and pictures that I’ve collected from different artists of trees and nature and landscapes. I’ve recently been cleaning and trying to reorganize, so these pictures were one of the first things I took down because ultimately they seemed small and insignificant and easy to get out of the way for now. But the next morning I instantly missed them. The walls seemed sad and bare, and while it’s just a bathroom and the things I had up weren’t even permanent or organized or framed, even just having them hanging up on command hooks or scattered at the back of the counter was enough to remind me of beautiful things and places I had seen. Like little beautiful adventure time capsules. And I didn’t realize how much I missed that feeling until it was gone.

I love creating flowers and bouquets because they are a simple way to share beauty and nature with other people. Whether a bridal bouquet or a vase of flowers on your desk or table, flowers are my favorite way to show someone you care about them enough to share that feeling with them. Or to take care of yourself by surrounding yourself with things that make you happy. And that’s my why. That’s why flowers. Because bringing nature in helps me create my cozy happy place. Because it feels like each petal is a piece of a beautiful adventure to take home and share.

I just couldn’t believe it.

So this past year I got a little too carried away with my excitement for roses and bought…A LOT. If I start now, in 4 years I’ll have SO MANY for bouquets and weddings and they’ll be beautiful. Plan now for the future and go big.

Well, I went big, and it bit me in the 🍑. About half are still kicking while the other half look like they’re definitely not going to make it. So the dead ones have stayed out where they are, while the good ones have made winter shuffles (thanks to the help of my dear hubby) in and out of the garage out of the freezing cold since they aren’t planted in the ground.

Today my little heart skipped a beat and I couldn’t believe it when I saw this beautiful green growth on one of the “dead” roses. A rose that just weeks ago showed zero signs of life or potential.

That’s the beauty of it. As a nurse, I’ve seen the impossible. I’ve seen someone dead come back to life when there was no hope. As a gardener/farmer, I’ve killed more plants than I’d like to admit. But inside of everything living, in the midst of our winters, is this invincible summer longing to break free and grow, even when it seems like there is no hope.

"My dear, In the midst of hate, I found there was, within me, an invincible love. In the midst of tears, I found there was, within me, an invincible smile. In the midst of chaos, I found there was, within me, an invincible calm. I realized, through it all, that... In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer. And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there's something stronger - something better, pushing right back." -Albert Camus

Happy Wednesday 💙

I found my first gray hairs this past week. I’ve never been scared of getting older, but for some reason it really took me off guard.

But after calming down (after a good 5 second freak out), I remembered I’m not scared. That every year I get older means a chance for new exciting experiences. To love my husband, to go new places, to grow beautiful flowers, to build something incredible.

I know if I could go back and show little Melissa everything I have accomplished up to this point (cats, flowers, adventurers-I’m pretty easy to please) she would be so proud. And I know in another 20 or 30 years I’ll be able to do the same. Trust your journey. Know yourself. Follow your dreams.

🌱💐 💐

01/11/2023

I’ve seen some of the most magical moments in the rain. The last video is from a beautiful windy rainy wonderful beach wedding in Oregon. The day before was picture perfect. The day of could have been considered by some to be a disaster. But I got to watch family and friends huddle together and laugh and cry as two incredible people embraced the weather and declared their love amidst the downpour. 💙💚

Some of my favorite moments in the garden are listening to the thunder as I watch petals carry the weight of giant raindrops while bees huddle underneath their colorful umbrellas.

Don’t let the rain stop you. Embrace it. Splash around like a kid in a puddle.

Happy Wednesday and go out there and “get yourself a sexy raincoat and live a little.”

“If you didn’t document it, it didn’t happen.” -Every nurse and instagram influencer in the world

Well I didn’t take any cute pics or photos of putting tulips and daffodils in the ground, but trust me, IT HAPPENED ALRIGHT!

In my usual Melissa nature, I toiled (for good reasons) where and when to put these babies in the ground as I have never planted out bulbs before and then ended up doing it at the last possible moment (in every way). These guys need a solid cold spell before turning into the beautiful blooms you love come spring, and of course I would wait until January right as the sun was going down before I had to work all weekend to start that project. Thankful for big lights and a stubborn spirit and a patient husband who just stared off the porch waiting for me to be done so we could run to dinner 😂😂😬 If you know me, you know that’s how I roll. But it often works out in the end or if not is at least a solid lesson learned. We will see. Spring blooms or no blooms, what’s your guess???
