Got nice coverage for the book by Wild West Magazine ...‼😁
As we've been teasing to in our monthly newsletters, the Spring 2024 Wild West, due to publish on Zinio in coming days, centers on the performers of the Old West who brought both the reality and myth of the American frontier to audiences nationwide and abroad. The undisputed ringmaster of that era was William Frederick "Buffalo Bill" Cody with his Wild West exhibition (Cody himself loathed the word "show").
In advance of the issue, we'd like to point readers to "Buffalo Bill in the Limelight Across Virginia," a newly published book by researcher, author, speaker and Wild West contributor John Flood. Flood has been “on the trail” of Buffalo Bill for more than 20 years. His great-great grandfather, 3rd Cavalry Sgt. Patrick Flood, served out West from 1866 to '96. In the summer of 1876, following Lt. Col. George Custer’s defeat at the Little Bighorn, Patrick Flood found himself in the same Montana encampment as then scout Bill Cody.
From that encounter John followed Cody's trail and came to learn that Buffalo Bill's Wild West later performed in the author's adopted hometown of Wi******er, Va. That prompted Flood to fan out across the state to discover the entertaining story of Cody's wide-ranging performances in Virginia. The resulting volume includes hundreds of period photos of the performer and his troupe. If you're a fan of the American West or Buffalo Bill in particular, especially if you have Virginia ties, you'll love the book, available on Amazon.
