45 years ago TODAY, founder and president and the force behind the success of DMSE Sports, Dave McGillivray completed his 3,452 mile run across the United States for the Jimmy Fund. From Medford, Oregon to his hometown of Medford, Massachusetts and finishing to a standing ovation of 32,000 fans at Fenway Park.

“That night (August 29, 1978) remains the highlight of my athletic career.”

The DMSE team was up in Cape Elizabeth, ME last weekend for the 25th running of the TD Beach to Beacon. A 5-day set up and lots of hard work put into another successful event!
It’s not all work no play with a team like this one!

2ND ANNUAL RUN MEDFORD

Excited to post about the 2nd Annual Run Medford race this year. It will be two-days of events. On Friday evening, September 22nd we will be holding a series of 1-mile races on the track at Hormel Stadium in Medford. The schedule looks like this:

5:15pm – Kid’s Fun Runs.
5:45pm – Mayor’s Celebrity/VIP Mile.
6:00pm – Para Mile.
6:15pm – High School Mile.

Additionally, I am honored that the City of Medford will be naming the track after me at 4:30pm and before all the races. Pretty amazing.

On Saturday, September 23rd, we will be conducting the Run Medford 5-Mile race starting and finishing at Medford City Hall.

A note from your former editor…

As some of you may know, after six years with the DMSE team I have hung up my Communications hat and am venturing into the world of preservation carpentry (saving and maintaining old homes using a combination of modern and traditional techniques and materials). Although most of my DMSE work fell outside of event ops and logistics, I got to know most of you on event days, and I’m grateful to you all for allowing me to capture the magic you create. The photos you produced reflect not only your meticulous work, but also the fun you have while doing it. Thank you for indulging this lurking paparazzo with humor and patience. I’m certain this isn’t goodbye, but rather see you soon. - Christina

Today we lost one of the most inspirational figures that the running community has ever known. Rick Hoyt has motivated and inspired so many throughout his years of running with his father Dick Hoyt. Rick will be dearly missed, and the impact he has had on others will always be remembered.

As part of the inaugural 2022 Run Medford last year, Medford Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn made a surprise announcement that the track at Medford’s Hormel Stadium would be dedicated to our founder and president Dave McGillivray and named in his honor. That dedication will be happening as part of our festivities this year on Friday evening, September 22. Directly following the ceremony we’ll kick off the weekend-long celebration of running!

ZEE IS READY!

Met with Zdeno Chara for coffee. Just went through our final strategy for race day. He is READY due in big part to Coach Becca Pizzi and has EARNED THE RIGHT to do this race. He actually brought one of his jersey’s, signed it and gave it to me. Although it may not fit me snuggly, I will cherish it forever as it came from one of the nicest, most humble, kind, sincere, dedicated athletes I have ever had the pleasure of meeting in my life. I’m more excited to see what he does than I am to even see what I do myself. Let’s Go Zee!!!! And no short / tall jokes!!
