When you show up to ready for , but instead you’re given “I-wish-I-would-have-brought-a-coat-and-blanket” vibes from Mother Nature😂....

The wind and rain couldn’t stop the hard core festival goers though! We met a lot I people from other counties, and even other states near us.

They say some things in life are worth waiting for....and peonies would definitely fit that bill🤗. Our driveway is 450ft long, and I planted about 100 ft of a peony hedge my first fall here (it wasn’t an easy feat as our ground right there is basically gravel, and I was still recovering from a shattered elbow). Last year we maybe got seven or eight blooms total from all of the plants (I can’t remember how many there are but I think it’s about seventy now), but this year they are looking gorgeous with all of their blooms😍. There still aren’t a ton of blooms....I added more peony tubers in between each plant last year because I didn’t like how far apart I originally spaced them.....so those didn’t bloom this year, but next year should be even more glorious!

I do have plans for peony rows in the flower fields because, let’s face it, these beauties are just for me to enjoy😊. Plus it will be an amazing site to behold when we finally open our farm for events!

Our first seed grown annuals of the 2022 season here on the Bias Farm have started blooming🤗 (we’re zone 4b/5a so things take a little longer to get going here lol). They’re still in the baby bloom stage, but these Stock flowers have an amazing smell and we are so looking forward to the beautiful bouquets they will fill out in a few weeks! (See last photo for a preview of what they look like fully in bloom). Summer is right around the corner!!🌸

I’m a little jealous of everyone who can plant out their tender annuals already!!! We had a couple spring-like teaser days in the 70’s, but sadly our last frost date is still weeks away🥶😞. We also had a massive windstorm a few weeks ago that tore the plastic off our two hoop houses, so right now I have THOUSANDS of baby seedlings snuggled up in our house as the next few nights are going to be extra chilly.

But soon enough though (I have to keep reminding myself😂), our not-quite-green yet, frost covered fields will be bursting with an abundance of color and beauty🌸. And then I’ll say....it was worth the wait.💗

Flashback to a field of Lupines I came across while hiking on a couple years ago. Did you know in New Zealand it’s considered a w**d?! No worries for us here in NY though.....we already have quite a few growing, and a lot more baby seedlings to plant this year. With any luck we’ll have our own field of lupines on the farm in the next few years🤞🏽. I personally love the pinks😊

The Apricot Lemonade Cosmo....these beauties add a soft elegance to bold summer bouquets, and that hint of mauve-y pink is perfect for transitioning to autumn-hued centerpieces. It’s the perfect filler flower all growing season long🌸.

Confession- I’d never really been a huge fan of roses😱. I know I know.....but the only roses I tended to see in the yards of neighbors where I grew up were blood red with the standard five petals. I didn’t like stopping to smell the roses because, well, I was not that impressed🤷🏻‍♀️.

Enter English roses....with their gorgeous ruffled petals in all the pastel-y shades of pink, coral, and salmon my heart can take😍. It was love at first sight💗. And while growing a lot of roses in my zone (4b/5a) is tricky, I am determined to have a grand English rose garden filled with these beauties in the near future.
