Sad to hear about the end of this era, but I completely understand. The Birthday Girl took part in this massive event as a not-for profit vendor with Park Spirit, as a facepaint and clean-up volunteer, and stART at the station artist! I know 2nd hand the amount of time and effort that goes into this one day. My husband, Gabriel Rollins , was the director of music and street performers for many years. The amount of funding and people power needed is substantial, and yet a few handfuls of folks run the show. Organizers get a very small stipend for a full-time job. Some of the directors have been doing it for the past 20 years, and some have parted ways in more recent years. The core group juggles families, jobs, and the stART volunteering. The team is tired. Best wishes to everyone who has been involved past and present. You have been a gift to the city of Worcester. THANK YOU!

Brundidge began telling other parents about the locks -- and then, last June, a child with autism drowned in her home state. She went to the press conference where officials broke the sad news -- and ran into family members of that child. She promised to get them some locks.
