Summer is here, and it's hot outside! Have you tried to make your own iced coffee at home, but you just can't seem to get it? The biggest issue is that it comes out watered down, right? Here are some tips to get you on the right track to yummy iced coffee at home using a regular coffee maker!
1. Type of roast: I suggest a medium or dark roast since they tend to have a bolder flavor that will still come through once poured over ice.
2. Where to get beans: The grocery store or from a roaster.
3. Reccomendations:
From the store: Starbucks Espresso Roast or Seattle's Best Coffee vanilla or hazelnut. Before starting my business, the espresso roast was my go-to for iced coffee. Seattle's Best flavored coffee is definitely good if you're watching your sugar since you can add the sweetener of your choice to enhance the flavor of the coffee.
Local roasters: @unknowngroundcoffee, @crvroasters, and @thecoffeeshop_kwatsannation. Don't be scared to ask what's good over ice!
4. Measurements: Sorry, you're gonna have to do some math 😆 The key is to create a coffee concentrate. A good starting point is 10g (2 round tbsp) for every 6oz of the size you will have. Take your cup size, divide by 6, and multiply by 10. Then, brew at half the amount of the size.
Example: 12oz cup
12÷6=2 (number of 6oz servings)
2×10=20 (how many grams of coffee to use)
12÷2= 6 (how many ounces of water to use)
5. Put it together: Brew the hot coffee. Fill your glass to the top with ice. Add sweetener and milk to your liking! If you use a granulated sweetener, add it to the hot coffee to melt before pouring over ice.
From here, you can decide if you want to make it stronger or weaker, but now you have somewhere to start 😊
