I also want to say, aside from being super grateful to Whitney Street School and Marlborough lines for letting me blast this epic fireworks show off, and to my team of hardworking fun pyros, who dedicate hours of their time and energy into pulling it all together. (remember none of us get paid to do this.. we do it all for the glory and yummy sausage sizzle).. I also really want to personally Thank Chris Holdaway for all his work towards getting it to sound amazing for you all, and this year, our newest member of the team, Andrew Jefferies, from Brianfm . I had the pleasure of working alongside Andrew getting the music track all sorted. He also broadcast the whole show live on air, and provided huge advertising for us. It also made a massive difference having the best radio station playing all day and after the event. Nothing like raking up rubbish to the music that they feel like! So thank you Andrew for all the time you put in this year as well.

The final job from the show finished at 8pm last night! Waterblasting the soot out of the tubes! These are the last 3 out of the 10 I blasted.
We do this for a number of reasons... they're nicer to handle clean firstly.. but most importantly.. it is a great indicator after a show has gone bang to see if there is a unfired shell lurking in the bottom of a tube. nothing says ekk more than a clean tube in a sea of sooty ones! Also it means we can give the tube a good inspection to look out for damage or defects...
Amazing how much time and behind the scenes work goes into a 13 min show! 🤣

Hey everyone. Just wanted to clear some stuff up, as I have seen a couple of negative comments regarding the postponement of the Lights over Marlborough show.
Firstly, this is a fantastic event which a huge amount of people in the background have been preparing for. It raises cash for the school to help out our local kiddies and helps shift the retail fireworks which can go off any time, to a big local event which is heavily advertised to keep your pets safe and it works out far cheaper to pay for a ticket to this 13 minute display, $10, which is the same price as 1 Roman candle that lasts 16 seconds.
We had to postpone due to a wind forecast of 10 m/s at firing. now its showing up to 12 m/s. Our legal limit is 8 m/s. And to keep the crowd and surrounding houses safe, there is no way I would risk anywhere near that wind speed.
We made the call to postpone early, as it would have been far worse to let you all come into the event... find your spots.. get the kids all excited... and then I pull the pin at firing time! Can you imagine the disappointment! We wanted people to have a chance to reschedule their weekend to allow Sunday as fun day.
I've been asked why not next weekend.
Aside from everyone else on the massive Whitney organizing team, from our point, here is why.
I run a team of the best pyrotechnicians from the top of the south. 3 of us own our own fireworks companies. This is our busiest time of the year for displays. We all have other shows and commitments next weekend. The paperwork to do a display of this magnitude is immense, involves everyone from CAA, FENZ, Worksafe, local council etc and would have to be all redone with only a 5 day window in order to get a compliance certificate which takes time to process.
So yeah.. a simple thing like wind can be a bother. haha.
However this epic show is going ahead on Sunday. alot of love and time and energy goes into this event... so please come support it. The kids can handle one late school night! x

Sadly the predicted wind speed for firing tomorrow night has meant a postponement till the next day when winds are calmer. It's going to be a fantastic night of fun and entertainment.. and then fireworks! Please help us get the word out!

POSTPONED TO SUNDAY NIGHT Marlborough Lines Ltd Lights over Marlborough!

Marlborough’s best kept secret, the dreaded spring wind has struck and we’re unable to safely operate the fireworks display tomorrow night. This means we’ve taken the hard decision to push back a day to Sunday 17 November.

But it’s not all bad news… the weather is looking great for Sunday so we’d love you to still please, please, please come down and support the Whitney Street School fundraiser and enjoy all our wonderful entertainment acts, food trucks and activity stalls who would love to see you as we shift the date to accommodate mother nature.

Hi there.

I am Michelle from Kiwi Pyro and we are doing the fireworks for this coming Saturday's, 16th November, Whitney Street Schools annual fundraiser, Lights Over Marlborough, at A and P Park.
The fireworks show starts at approx 9:10 and goes for 13 mins. The postponement date is the next night, 17th November at the same time.
Just wanted to make sure as many animal owners as possible know about this display.

It will yet again be a fantastic event with heaps of entertainment well before I push the boom button, so please get along and support.

Also, there is a huge amount of lower level pyro as well.. which you will miss if you are not in there !

Looking to light up this Guy Fawkes with fireworks? They’re best left to the professionals, but if you’re using them at home:
🧨Only light fireworks in an open area away from people, pets, buildings, trees and livestock. If you happen to get a dud, don’t try to relight it.
🧨Make sure an adult is lighting fireworks one at a time on a calm night. Have a bucket of water, fire extinguisher or hose nearby.
🧨Dispose of fireworks by soaking them in a large bucket of water overnight. Wrap them securely and put them in your household rubbish or take them to your local landfill.
🧨If you’ve got leftover fireworks, keep them in their original packaging, on a high shelf away from heat sources and flammable substances. The packaging is fire-resistant and has safety information on the label.

Super excited! Lights over Marlborough is getting ever so closer! 16th November... Book this date in to be at A & P park for Whitney Street Schools main fundraiser!
Please come and check it out.. there is so much to see and do before the bangs even start!
Here is a bunch of star shells ( the big booms) that will be fired... interesting fact.. most starshell types are named after flowers... Dahlias, Peonys etc.

Had a awesome fireworks show tonight to help Marlborough Boys College celebrate their 125th Anniversary.
Thank you so much for entrusting me with lighting up the sky for you all. We had a blast! Glad you all loved it as much as we did. 😊🤘
Thank you very much also to Kelvin from Fireworks New Zealand for crewing for me in the absolute torrential rain and cold conditions!!

Wow! Had an amazing night tonight doing my first ever show at the Awesome Eastern States Speedway! A wonderful day with loads of laughs, the most thrilling entertainment a speedway can offer including wicked cars, hardcore racing, the smells of food, and fuel... the music.. the commentating... like actually everything! Then we got to set up the track with fireworks blasting off... lots of colour and bangs and the feedback has been wicked.
I want to say thank you so much to my Kiwi Pyro crew.
Kelvin Holdaway from Fireworks New Zealand.. who keeps me from exploding like the excitement of it all.. while really getting stuck in and helping non stop for the weeks ahead of this.. all the while cracking jokes and having fun. and my son Kaige Harris who was my fire spotter tonight.. running around with a sprayer and a heavy extinguisher.. checking every spark and keeping the grounds safe. So absolutely grateful to my team.
Huge thanks to Eastern States Speedway for having us. They sure know how to throw an event, and so super organized there was no worries at all... I see next week there will be some insanely epic racing.. so please go support our wonderful local event.

Well wow.. been a busy fireworks season and that is Januarys magic shows done! I had the pleasure of crewing for Kelvin for Fireworks NZ on both New Years and Maritime Festival in Picton. And its a bit quiet for now, but have just picked up an awesome show for April, Will keep you posted on that! I will be posting more behind the scenes pictures this year.. so if there is anything you would like to see or more of something... Just let me know!
