In May of 1977, James Baker (The Geeks, The Scientists, The Painkillers, The Rockin Hendy, Hoodoo Gurus, Beasts of Bourbon, The Dubrovniks), and Dave Flick aka Faulker (Hoodoo Gurus, The Manikins, Midget and The Farrellys, Antenna) teamed up, with Dave Cardwell on bass, to create one of the most memorable punk bands to come out of Australia, The Victims.

Their debut single “Television Addict b/w I’m Flipped Out Over You”, released in the same year, was one of the greatest Aussie punk rock records to come out of this era, and has been covered by acts across the Nation and the World, such as You Am I, The Hellacopters and Teengenerate.

In August 1978 they released a five-track extended play, The Victims (also known as No Thanks to the Human Turd), with: "I Understand", "Open Your Eyes", "TV Freak", "High School Girls" and "Disco Junkies". Following this was a compilation album, All Loud on the Western Front (1989), Sleeping Dogs Lie (2011) and Culture Shock (live album, 2014).

Rumour has it there might also be a new release to coincide with this momentus occasion... mixed by the legendary Ed Stasium, who has worked with the likes of The Talking Heads and the Ramones.

Support comes from The Shakeys and Volcanics. Tickets are on sale now. Do not sleep on tickets - this show cannot and should not be missed.

Scarborough Jazz By The Beach enters its second year of showcasing stunning local musical talent, presenting a cultural and lively celebration of musicians for music lovers with 17 acts over 2 days, across 10 venues and around 80 individual artists.

Following the roaring success of its debut in 2021, Jazz by the Beach returns with an expanded line up of local world-class musicians. Acts such as Libby Hammer & Adam Hall Trios, Russell Holmes, Simone Craddock, Catherine Summers and many more.

The gigs embrace multiple times and moods, from brunch to lunch, afternoon into sundowner, a late-night party or a black-tie event across a multitude of Scarborough's best venues. Zoie Cafe with gorgeous ocean views; The Scarborough Beach Bar; El Grotto for a late Saturday night party; and the Diamond Lounge in the Rendezvous Hotel playing host for the headline event of the festival: "A Swinging Gatsby Jazz Soiree" with Catherine Summers and her New Orleans Nine.

Jazz By The Beach would like to thank The City of Stirling for their continued support, and to the Scarborough Beach Association whose investment is a huge compliment to the talent we have here in Perth, and demonstrates their incredible support of local music and musicians.
Jazz by the Beach runs from August 27th –August 28th.

The City of Stirling is located on the traditional lands of the Nyoongar People and respects and honours the Elders past, present and future.
