Happy Holidays - the Reindeer are almost here!

At the end of November - we were looking to nominate a local family whom we could sponsor for Christmas. We were overwhelmed with responses. We could not help everyone. We choose to sponsor the first four families nominated in our neighbourhood.

We were able to fill four laundry hampers with food and treats. Then we were trying to get personalized gifts for six boys in four families.

We did not do this alone. Local elves in our neighbourhood helped us to fulfill most of the Christmas asks. Through our helpful elves we raised two jackets and snow pants for a pair of boys, we raised knitted hats and scarfs from an artisan who donated her cache of wool products. Another baker donated homemade cookies and treats. Two sets of elves from Calgary sponsored items on our list. Another family bought all the fixings for a Turkey Meal and then some. We got some previously loved toys themed to match some of our boys tastes. We got multiple donations for an expected new born in the year. One elf dropped off baby clothes and a years worth of razors for a dad. We got multiple soap bars to shareout. Elves even asked what they could do for mom or dad. I would ask for 2-3 ideas from the parent - and our community elves picked up multiple items.

I hope I am not missing anyone who helped. I am so moved by our community who stepped up to enrich four families this Holiday. You are all rock stars.

Happy Holidays - wishing prosperity and enrichment in 2024 & Beyond!

It’s the Giving Season

Our family asked our communities to nominate a family that we could sponsor for Christmas. We were overwhelmed so quickly with requests. We had to shut down the nominations in the first 24 hours. In the end we choose to sponsor four families. We bought 4 laundry baskets and filled them with food. We were able to get some personalized gifts. Other anonymous elves stepped forward with food, clothes and previously loved gifts/toys.

We have been moved by those who were in a position to give back to strangers - thank you.

One family of five are refugees spending their first winter in Canada. The family is in fact expecting a baby in the spring. We were able to donate and collect winter wear for the whole family in days (jackets, vests, snow pants, scarfs, gloves and hats). Even though this winter is mild. It is not mild to anyone ill prepared. We decided to bestow these items before Christmas. The eldest boy attends my daughters school. So we arranged to drop off the winter wear with the school in two batches. Today, I dropped off my daughter and I saw a little boy walking to school with one of our donated jackets, snow pants and hats - it made me smile to see it used a day after it was donated.

If anyone has newborn items that are in fair shape - they will not go waste - message me.

Another one of our nominated families asked for Christmas Dinner. I appreciate another elf in our community stepped forward to offer the turkey and all the fixings. I appreciate that this family of elves also choose to do something extra for the mum - asking what mum wants under her tree.

We have food and toys for all the kids. We are content with what we can deliver to our four families. Our list is down to a few items:
- Books (for a 9 year old)
- Camping,
- Mario toys,
- Building Blocks,
- Spongebob
- Queen Bedding
- Mens Razors

If you have any of these items to donate or items you think would be appreciated - you can message or email: [email protected] - and we can ask the families if they would accept it.

Calling on the elves in the neighbourhood to help us decorate our community Christmas tree. We are asking for a tree topper or decorations you loved that are now spare. Come by/put your ornaments on our Community Tree. We will be delivering this community tree and all decorations to the refugee family when we deliver their hamper.

You can find the community tree in front of the Garden Gallery @ 12117 127th Street NW - Edmonton.

We will be making our deliveries on December 22nd.

Happy Holidays.

Calling all community elves…

The family behind the Garden Gallery choose to adopt a family for the Holidays. We were asking our community for nominations. We had an overwhelming response and we are closing down nominations early right now. We do not want to say no to another family.

We have chosen to sponsor a recent migrant family fresh into Canadain winter from a refugee camp. This family will receive a laundry basket full of food, our community Christmas Tree (please feel free to contribute to the small tree in front of the Garden Gallery) and we will put some items needed for a family starting fresh in Winter. We will be asking what the children need or want (Stay Tuned). We will deliver the pantry of food and gifts, community tree and a hot meal on December 22nd, 2023.

We have also chosen to support three more families. We have bought 3 more laundry baskets to serve as hampers. We are starting these hampers but are looking to see how our community can enrich them further. This is an opportunity for our community to support these families needing a bit more cheer this Holiday.

All of our sponsored families are local to Prince Charles, Inglewood, and Calder.

Non-perishables will last past the holidays and/or do you want to sponsor a gift. Do you have a previously loved item that can help these families feel our community love?

What to contribute to a specific family:
- Family 1: Refugee Family (3 boys under the age of 7). Wishlist Coming!
- Allergies: Unspecified

- Family 2: A single mom and her son (9). Earlier this year he lost his father.
- Wishlst: Video Games (PS4), Minecraft for PS4, Reading, Nerf, Oilers and Camping
- Allergies: None

- Family 3: A single mom and her son (3).
- Wishlst: Turkey Dinner for 5 adults and 1 child, Mario Fan, trains, building blocks
- Allergies: Seafood

- Family 4: A family and their son (4). His birthday is on December 30th.
- Wishlst: Paw Patrol, SpongeBob, Tablet, Queen Bedding, Kitchen, bathroom, mens razors, mens socks, new underwear.
- Allergies: None

Thank you and wishing you all a Happy Holiday.

Feel free to message us if you are in a position to support this community project or email: [email protected]

UPDATE: My family is looking to adopt a family in Edmonton this Holiday Season. We hope to make this adoption to enrich a family this holiday season as a community. We have not nominated a family yet. We will be closing nomination December 5th. If no family is nominated we will contribute what we were planning to donate to the family to the Edmonton Food Bank.

Stay tuned for posts if a nominated family has specific requests.

If you are or know of a family in need of more cheer this Christmas - please direct message or email: [email protected]

The plan: We hope to find a family and identify some gift ideas for the kids (be on the look for updates). We will ask the community to help us make a hamper of food donations. Donate some previously loved toys for the kids. Or perhaps a new shinny toy. Help us to decorate the Community Tree in front of our Garden Gallery - donate a string of lights, unused Christmas ornaments or a tree topper. On December 22nd we will deliver the Community Tree, hamper of food, toys, and a hot meal to the sponsored family.

If you have a donation message or drop it off at 12117 127th Street NW.

…and Happy Holidays.

We are proudly sailing a Red Ensign (c. 1957) and a Canadain Royal Air Force Ensign from our Garden Gallery on 12117 127th Street NW - Edmonton. My family have no strong direct ties to Palestine or Israel. However we feel the turmoil from the ongoing/escalating events in the region. I have wept or held back the tears too many times in the wake of death and destruction.

If you choose to donate $125 or more to a recognized humanitarian charity in the region before Remembrance Day. I will donate a photography session.

If you donate to a humanitarian project supporting either side’s civilians - I will donate my time to give you a free photoshoot in the Edmonton Area. I will upload everything photographed to a private website for a year.

If you donate to a charity reach out before Remembrance Day with a copy of the donation receipt and we can arrange a photoshoot. Thanking anyone who takes us up on the offer. You can email your redacted (we do not want your personal information included) tax receipt to [email protected]

My families thoughts and prayers go out to all those impacted by conflict.

Hoping for peace in the Middle East before Remembrance Day - Lest We Forget!

We have installed a new art exhibit “Boys _n Cr_s_s”. This piece was inspired in part by Warren Farrell and John Gray’s book - The Boy Crisis. It is a thick book. In parts, it explorers how boys/men are being left behind. More men are quietly dropping out of life. Lost boys are more likely to hurt themselves and in extreme cases hurt others. It explores how much this impacts everyone. It explores how to advocate for boy/men without taking away from others. Boys are being quietly left behind. We do need to create spaces that inspire our boys to participate in their potential.

Proud of my son who has been audio booking and discussing “The Boy Crisis” with me. Augustus helped me to draft the Crisis Campaign Flag on display. My son and I stand up for the Boys is Crisis. Will you have us stand alone?

If anyone wants to book club this - drop me a message.

We would like to thank Paul Sims for allowing us to permanently fix his “Be Yourself” art to our Garden Gallery Frame. We appreciate you creating and sharing a piece to show love and acceptance.

And thank you for supporting the boys and men in our lives.
