This is a free event and will be run like the Carnegie’s open mics. People interested in performing and/or listening are welcome. The host will make sure that you get up to perform, but there will be no set schedule. I run on a loose first come first serve schedule. If you’re interested in doing a longer set (20-30 minutes), let me know (If you can come down early, we can usually accommodate you).
Otherwise, plan on doing one to three songs (depending on how many people are waiting). You are welcome to perform solo or with a group. If you are a singer and would like accompaniment, post your song on the event site and I will learn it for the performance. I can guarantee guitar accompaniment. Additional instrumentalist will depend on who shows up and is willing to play. Singers, please have your song memorized. I won’t ban people from using cell phones, but you really rob yourself and the audience of the performance experience if you don’t know your song by heart. I will bring an acoustic, and electric and a bass (guitar) which you are welcome to use if you don’t want to lug your axe. We will have mics, a PA and a keyboardand drums. At this open mic, we encourage ensemble playing. I will try to get as full a band as possible to back the song (unless you choose to perform otherwise). Most of all, it is about getting a chance to perfrom, supporting other artists, learning from each other and, most of all, having fun. THE VENUE
We're starting a new open mic at the Morrison Cafe and Bar in Sheung Wan. It's a new place; a nice space with a PA, that's looking to start doing live music. They have a kitchen and a full bar and the drinks seem reasonable. Check out their website, http://morrisonhk.com/ or their page, https://www.facebook.com/morrisoncafeandbar/?fref=ts The event is upstairs in the bar.
