It’s only taken me YEARS to become more comfortable with putting the live flowers on cakes and I still get a bit nervous but push through it a little more gracefully now. All the while though thinking about how much work the baker put into making this cake and telling myself while adding flowers, “Don’t mess it up, don’t mess up the icing”

Merry Christmas my friends! Much pressure is placed on this time of the year to be all it’s supposed to be, keeping up with presents and latest decorating fads, yet this time of year can bring sad moments and reminders of someone missed or life’s challenges or even loneliness. We all have those moments honestly. No matter the circumstances, one thing remains and never changes of why we celebrate Christmas. It’s the birth of an infant that was perfectly perfect. God Himself coming to earth. He was called Emanuel meaning God With Us. We are not alone, we have God with us. A savior who brings comfort and yes He truly brings Joy.
Don’t let darkness steal from this great gift. Let your minds think on these things:
There was a manger
There was a star as a sign
and the angles announced,
“Glory to God in the highest PEACE on Earth! Good will to men!”
Emmanuel has come! God is with us!

Let’s talk about color because you can use these rules in decorating your home or event or in flower arrangements. If you like a color, don’t be afraid to use it with other favorite colors. I wasn’t sure if the purple roses would throw this whole thing off but I loved their pastel beauty. Once I placed it in a grouping of it’s own, it became its own little world within the arrangement and fit! It was also important to not be right up against the peach so I kept some space in between the two. Color blocking is a beautiful tool! Placement of color is everything and if you don’t like a certain color mixed with others, don’t just get rid of it, change the location. Talk to your floral designer about that splash of color that’s been catching your eye because it may be that it will fit better than you realized!

If we waited until we were completely sure of ourselves and what something would look like, an arrangement would never get made because flowers curve and wind and do what they want to do and so they give us the inspiration and take the lead and it’s better that way. Within reason I should say, because we do wire things and are bound for a wrestling match with a stem which is all part of the job!

Been on the hunt today for seeds to purchase for next year’s growing season and I’m in love with all the unusual varieties of sunflowers and would love to give those seeds a try. I find sunflowers very easy to grow but I’m not a fan of yellow unless it’s mustard which is why I love the unique sunflowers. Give a swipe to see the beautiful varieties!

Tall centerpieces take a wedding to the next level but if you are concerned about what that does to the budget it’s good to know, you actually don’t need to place them on every single table! My personal preference is to have a few popping up here and there on each side of the room. Having some lower centerpieces will add variety in the space and warmth as your eye bounces around from low to high. And now your flowers become part of the conversations!

A house tour with and the phrase that she posted spoke to me.
“If you love it, it goes.”
Yes I’ve wasted too much energy wondering if I ordered the wrong flower or worried about that one bloom that stretched the color palette and will it ruin the whole wedding?! LOL! It’s ridiculous honestly because many times that item I’ve used to make pieces more artistic, I’ve come to find that it becomes people’s favorite thing! I’ve gotten better in the worry area, but it truly takes time to learn to trust yourself and trust your eye and not listen to the worry of what people will think. Just create it! Keep going! Be the artist and trust yourself.

I received a call from one of our local farmers that the flowers will probably not make it through the night tonight so any picking should be done today. Although I don’t have an event this weekend it is still so sad to see the growing season come to an end. I will try to dig up some of my herbs to bring inside for the winter or cover some of my flowers with blankets in hopes they will survive. I’ll also pull in some of the potted things for the night but this is why I need a greenhouse!
Anyone else moving plants around or have advice or tips to share? Would love to hear!
