It's all in the details... would you know?
First you need the basics right - a good large room, a good location, the right temperature, and a good bed - but after that comes all the details, either lifting a hotel to the skies or sending it to the bottom of review...
Here are some examples from a different hotels in a recent research trip:
a. A great terasse, but with a strong smell of curry from the restaurant 24-7
b. Nice large room with beautiful decor - but garbage can does not open and eur power plug does not work
c. I ask reception about bus-times and get 3 different answers
Great service examples at cheap hotels:
1. First day I ask for soy milk coffee - second day I get it without asking
2. I ask for bus times and receptionist reply: "My husband can take you, he is going there anyway"
3. "Would you like to join us for a quick fishing trip?"
4. We don't use fixed checkout times but if you can be out by 12 it will be nice for our housekeeping. But I will give you the key to another room where you can shower and nap if you like...

Seychelles Guide 5: Hotel with the Best Beach - ultra lux Constance Lemuria.
In many years I have searched the world for the best beach - Koh Samui? Boracay Fiji not bad either. Whitsundays in Australia. Tonga getting to the top. But no matter how I look at it the Seychelles takes the price... There are many great hotels in the country - and Raffles villas in Praslin high on the list being new with contemporary design. But when it comes to beaches there is really no competition. Constance Lemuria easily takes the price having no less than 3 of the worlds best beaches to choose from!

Seychelles guide 4: Worlds Best Beach..
In many years I have searched the world for the best beach. Asia... Koh Samui not bad at all. Phillipines Boracay is a favourite. Fiji lovely. Whitsundays in Australia worth a visit. Tonga getting to the top of the list. But no matter how I look at it the Seychelles takes the price. The only place where the photos don't cheat. Here no filter of photoshop needed... so when you pick the best beach in the Seychelles, you also pick the best in the world.
But it is not Anse Lazio, Georgette or Source d'Argent because they are crowded (which in Seychelles terms means 20+ people hihi). Anse Coco is a runner up... but...
The best beach in the world is:
- Cote D'or if you like big
- Grand Anse if you favour the soft white power coral sand
- Anse Marie Louise if you wan't it to yourself...

Seychelles independent guide 3: Best Midprize Hotel:
A lot of research led me to The Crown Beach Hotel, 200eur/night, just15mins south of the international airport in Mahe - a true hidden gem. Family owned. Great service. Own little bay full of fish and corals. A gorgeous beach. And what you want the most in the Seychelles - the view! Just fantastic here... from the restaurant, from your own terrase, from the bed - and even from the bathroom... ;-)
Ps: Take the beachfront rooms to avoid noise from road. A mini market and busstop just outside. But no choice of restaurants in walking distance.

Seychelles Guide 1 (independent): Which Island?
Planning a trip to the Seychelles starts with choosing the Island. The big one Mahe by the airport? The small one without cars La Dique? Or the middle one Praslin...? Or the småll resort ones like Maldives?
Pick Mahe if you need people, big choise of restaurants and hotels, trafik and close to international airport.
Pick La Digue if you want really small biking around
Pick Praslin if anything else - the best choise for most people. Big enough to drive arould, have a choise of hotels and unlimited number of beaches (seriously +20). Get the drowsy island feeling where you really start to relax. And tourists well spred out, so never crowded - you can litterally find you own secluded beach all to your self. Just lovely!
Photos from my favourite Praslin - the one with the fence is from the airport - when this is the sight that meet you when you step out of an airport you know you are in Paradise...! ;-)

Seychelles guide 2: Best Budget Hotel 100eur
How about...
- 10m from your terrasse to a world famous beach?
- Looking at it from your bed...?
- Excellent service from Cindy?
- Close to the local airport?
- A quiet corner of the best island Praslin, with very few people
What's not to like...?
There are plenty of guesthouses around - but nothing like The Sea Shell Beach Villa...! You don't need to look further.
This is simply the room with the best location in Praslin (far better view that you get for 10x the rate at Lemura or Raffles). This is the place to stay if you are on a budget. Tour Praslin from here with bus, bike or rented car.

Opening strategy - Are you ready for your big launch…?
Likely not… I often visit new hotels for a curious review and it can be quite a challenge, because so much is not working. Opening is not a trivial task. Difficult to make a large hotel ready… but there are different strategies to apply:
1. Firstly, it is all about testing! If you believe you can check everything – then think again. So first of all you need guests to check your venue…. You can do that 2 ways:
a. Invite people for a free dry-run weekend and ask them to pay with a list of 25 improvements each.
b. Or open for real guests in a silent launch. But if you choose this strategy you need to set expectations right. Tell them upfront that it is an intro-period and they get 40% reduction for the inconveniences… and ask them to help you by filling out a list of improvements. The keyword here is 'help'... people are happy to help and angry to be cheated.
2. So secondly – it’s all about setting the expectations low.
3. And then maybe you are ready for the big launch….
PS: what is the alternative – that you get 50 horrible reviews which will take a year to overcome…

Service inspiration:
“Morning – I would like to check-in”.
“Welcome, Let me see if I can fix that…”
What is communicated under the surface…? We will come back to that – but the point being: You don’t want to initiate a customer relationship with a subconscious conflict – that's about as bad as a start can be - right..?
Back to the example: the receptionist subconsciously communicated “you have a problem and maybe I can help you get a room” How did that rhetoric make me feel? Below the surface my brain started a conflict: "why should I be lucky to get a room when I made a booking…? If any problems then you have messed it up pal!"
Think about what staff rethorics mean below the surface… You don’t want to start subconscious conflicts for no reason… Train staff rhetoric!

If you want to study efficient service, then ShangriLa is always worth a visit. I stayed here i Dubai Downtown - right in the business district close to Burj Khalifa. Very noisy neighbourhood with the traffic 24-7. But if you want a nice upmarket business hotel where things works like a swiss clockwork (probably now rather Seiko... ;-)) then ShangriLa is always impressive. Spotless. Large rooms. Great service. And now also top standard hygiene. Shangri-La

There are design hotels – and then there is The Yas Hotel…!

Do you fancy design? White corian?

The world has seen many design hotels from Armani to boutique – but there is only one Yas Hotel. Über cool above them all!

This all white hotel is shaped organically like an egg – also inspired by the mega yachts it lies among

The whole outside glow at night in different colors – if you think it sounds spectacular...

you bet!

Did we forget to mention it literally stays on top of the world's newest F1 race track?

They simply drive through the house while you sip a cocktail at the terrace.

In the evenings the track is open for public so you can take a Ferrari for a spin – or just watch the beauties. Noice – no problem at all.

The destination: Abu Dhabi is equally unique. Just a 1½h ride from Dubai. But very different.

If Dubai is the Ferrari then Abu Dhabi is the Bently. No posh. Just luxury. With the Grand Mosque as the most beautiful building in the world! More about this distination in another post. https://loom.ly/I7k9rPM

The Sukhothai Hotel – a retreat in the metropole… is that possible?

Imagine the tranquility of an exclusive retreat… in the middle of one of the world's most vibrant and inspirational metropoles.

Imagine walking down the entrance along the pond with lilywhites under the swaying palm trees.

The city noise slowly disappears and your shoulders relax while your hearth rate drops to level-mindfulness.

We could write long stories about the 5-star facilities and service – but you know all that... The difference is..

The uniqueness is the oasis in the middle of Bangkok. A perfect blend so you can jump out and get inspired in the amazing city – and drop back to relax in the quiet luxury of The Sukhothai.

Not a high-rise, but low buildings spread out with gardens and a large pool area.

If you enjoy a view you can pop in at the neighbor - the posh Banyan Tree Hotel with the famous roof bar The Vertigo.

The destination Bangkok is truly unique. Easy access. Tropical weather. Asian culture. Buddhist friendly culture - more about this fantastic city destination in another post. https://loom.ly/KbVdZWQ

Welcome to the official website of The Sukhothai Hotels and Resorts, design and lifestyle hotels in the heart of Shanghai and Bangkok. Visit our website and book your stay!

A fairy tale in Frederiksminde
Imagine a place surrounded by fjords. A beautiful garden growing own herbs and veggies. In a cosy little town from y1200. A small quiet hotel with a few rooms under the roof. With grand ballrooms from the golden age. And a Michellin restaurant overlooking the waters on 3 sides, serving the New Nordic cuisine with a French touch and a smile. Their gourmet dinner is the best I ever have had – beating Noma, Era Ora and the likes. Truly a hidden fairy tale only 1h from CPH. www.frederiksminde.dk

Think Hybrid! - Onsite and online engagement are equally important (content)
Hybrid meetings will be a part of the new normal.
Meetings where some people are placed in a conference room – and others are online.
To make this work and to make sure the online participants are engaged, it is crucial that you have an online host/facilitator/MC . You need someone onsite that also can connect the two groups. This person needs to make sure that it is as engaging to be a part of the online meeting as the onsite one. You can’t just have a camera streaming the content and then expect online participants to hang in there for a hole day.
Plan to make some brakes, some surveyes, some break out rooms, some discussions - anything really that engages them. This way you will need to adjust the way you plan the original event – and the benefit is that you also will get more engaged onsite participants.
Don’t wire – re-wire!
