Hello Friends! Well, it’s been awhile. I will honestly say I needed quite a bit of time to recuperate after the holidays and the marathon making of the SadFrog calendar! A huge THANK YOU for all that supported me in all the ways!!! 💕❤️💕❤️
Since then, I basically took January off to explore other creative hobbies that will no doubt influence some future work. In this post I want to show you the results of making my own ink from rose flower petals-what a mauvey/lavendery/bluesy surprise that was!!! Skip to the next photo and you’ll see I’ve been grinding up some rocks to make watercolor pigments from! I’ve been really loving the learning process, it being organic, nerdy and precise at the same time has felt like a great exploration in finding myself and my own curiosities about nature. Stay tuned for more on this! Hope you are all well and feeding yourselves with love. Xoxo

Hello, and welcome to the PRE-ORDER page for the SadFrog 2022 Calendar!

(Pre-Ordering ends Monday October 4th, 2021)

What you get:

12 months of SadFrog adventures. Each detachable picture is a usable POSTCARD!!!! - OR - you can frame it in a 4" x 6" frame. AND, the back of each calendar section is a spot for notes.

I have spent the last 2 months collaging, watercoloring, and graphic designing SadFrog scenarios. Why? My dog died. I changed my job. My landlord is selling the place I've lived in for 18 years. I got a real therapist for the first time in 20 years. I started taking graphic design classes online. I feel insecure.

What do I do when I feel vulnerable and insecure? I draw a sad frog. And do you know what the sad frog did for me? IT MADE ME SO HAPPY. I GIGGLE with delight every time. I really needed that. When I started sharing SadFrog, other people felt my giddyness. Maybe it made them giddy? Maybe it made them smile too. That's what I would like to share. I want to share all the smiles and all the silly.

My dogs name was Daisy. There is SO much of Daisy in these illustrations, and I thank her every day for being the weird, quirky dog she was.

The Details:

The pictures here are from the first printed proof of January. Following is February, March, April, May, June and July. The entire 12 month calendar will be coil-bound at the top, with a loop to hang from. Every month will include observed holidays. All calendars will be printed mid-October and shipped to you the first week of November 2021. Pre-ordering ensures delivery before the winter holidays.

Calendar Dimensions: 6" x 12", postcards are 4" x 6"

Pre-Order Present for you: One FREE Season's Greetings SadFrog card with envelope and free shipping! Thank you for trusting in me and our little frog and fly friends!

Current mood.
Yes, I just spent some time carving a small sad angry frog that looks like a grumpy avocado into my own personal stamp.
This is my spirit animal. This is a desert rain frog! They like to burrow in sand, make cute noises and and just naturally look sad or grumpy.
Who wants to name my frog?
Also, I swear this is part of my graphic design homework. No really, it is.

So...I signed up online to get a graphic design certificate through CalArts. My first bit of homework was to take a very recognizable object and re-create it over 10 times by hand. Naturally, I chose a leaf, my very favorite leaf in fact-the smokebush. Wish me luck and here we go!!!!

One more new card!
I have to admit, when my Mom told me that Rhododendrons were my step-dad’s favorite flowers I panicked. Honestly, they don’t lure me like other flowers do. But I did some poking around online and found this beautiful variation that captured my heart. They really are beautiful. This one is a limited edition of “You are beautiful “ as I will likely change the saying at a later date. (???) Or maybe keep it blank? The future of this one is unknown! But for now, YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL in the most surprising, delicate and alluring way. Keep the love going!

Hello Friends! It’s been a bit since I’ve posted here. In Cristina news, I was busy getting my gallbladder removed - not fun btw! But in recovery time I was able to paint and produce this new 8x10 print of one of my favorite houseplants. This is my Begonia Maculata! Isn’t she amazing! I’m so happy I got to spend time on this even though I am sans an organ. Available on my website in both colors. :) And also, hi! I missed you!

Welcome!

Rootbound is the time in a plant's life when it has outgrown its environment. It is an opportunity to leave a small pot in search of a larger home, one that allows room for growth, nourishment, and transformation. Writing, drawing, and painting have always been a way for me to develop and further understand my relationship to nature. They are meditative and quieting processes that re-connect me to a more authentic version of myself, a translation that often gets lost in today's fragmented world. Rootbound prints was crafted in an effort to slow down, reflect, and travel beyond the walls of our small pots. Through writing, observing, and engaging with nature we can explore compassion, welcome sincerity, and discover intimacy within the world around us. Let's continue to re-connect, together. Thank you for visiting Rootbound! With love, Cristina
