Getting to incorporate meaningful places and elements of you into your engagement photo session or video story session is one of our favorite things!

Whether that means going to the spot you had your first date, your favorite hiking spot, making coffee on a lazy morning at home, splashing around at your beach, or exploring somewhere cool together the sky is the limit!

Getting to capture what makes you YOU is such a cool part of your job. Nothing about you is cookie cutter, so your photos an video should feel as unique as you are!

5 THINGS TO ASK YOUR WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHER!

If you’ve decided to hire a wedding videographer or are considering doing so here are a few things to ask before making your decision!

1. Do you use audio in your films? If you for sure want audio from vows, speeches, etc included in your film make sure that is something your videographer does and will be capturing on the wedding day!

2. How would you describe your shooting and editing style? Get a feel for what the experience will be like and make sure you like what you see in their past work!

3. What deliverables will we receive? Do you want just a highlight film? Are you looking for a full ceremony, or all of your toasts? Make sure your videographer can give you what you’re looking for!

4. How do you back up your footage? You want to make sure your memories are safe!

5. Can we hang out and meet before the wedding? Hanging out with strangers on your wedding day is not the vibe, so see if this is an option! This is something that is really important to us personally because knowing you better allows us to do our job better!

Ultimately this decision is a “go with your gut” thing, but our biggest advice is to make sure to choose someone you vibe with that cares about you and your story!

3 Ways to incorporate pizza in your wedding day

1. Late night snack! It’s 10pm, you’re dancing your pants off and a few drinks in, what could be better than hot pizza?
2. Post ceremony getaway. If you’ve got some time between your ceremony and reception stop in somewhere for a slice or order some pizza for your party bus!
3. Pizza Buffet for Dinner! How could you go wrong?
Bonus! If pizza is your jam bring a box with you to your engagement session!

POV: it’s your BEST DAY EVER!

Photographers capture details so beautifully, but we’ve been working on unique and fun ways to do so in video as well! We loved the details that and chose for their wedding!

We KNOW many of you brides out there have probably spent way too much time thinking through the little details. The jewelry, invitations, all the cute little accents- all that work doesn’t go unnoticed. We also know that some of you bought your earrings the week of, are wearing shoes you already love, and aren’t too worried about the small stuff.

Neither of these is wrong!

We’re back from Arizona and already missing the desert warmth. It’s been unusually cold in South Carolina, so we’ve be taking some time for some much needed rest.

We had the best time last week with our mastermind community. This industry can be a lonely one, but we feel so thankful to have so many talented filmmaker friends all over the country! It’s been a great year of education and a great week of being refreshed and finding a fresh spark for this next year!

3 TIPS FOR DESTINATION WEDDINGS!

We sent off this gallery from Jamaica last night! Destination weddings truly have our heart.

There is something so special about bringing all your favorite closest people to a beautiful place for a few days of rest, relaxation, a killer party, and the celebration of a lifetime together!

Here are our tips to make your destination wedding go smoothly!

1. Hire a planner! Specifically someone who is either on the ground where you will be getting married, or someone who specializes in destination weddings! There are a few more logistics to handle that most standard weddings don’t have, so find someone that will have your back in handling all the little details!
2. Carry your dress onto your flight! The last thing you want is for your wedding dress to be in a missing checked bag! Make sure to bring it on your flight! Let the flight attendants know when you board and they might even have a safer spot than the overhead bin to stow it for your flight.
3. Send out Save the Dates EARLY! If you are planning an international affair make sure you give people plenty of time to renew their passports, make some room in their budget, and get time off of work, and anything else they might need advance notice to do!

It feels crazy that this wedding was a little over a year ago! Swipe to see what caused these tears!

So much has changed this past year! We grew, struggled, changed, accepted challenges, faced hardships, but ultimately are so happy with where we find ourselves now.

This past year we traveled a lot, broke down in a van a few too many times, quit teaching to go full time, we moved across the country, celebrated so many love stories and met so many amazing people! More than anything we’re excited about the future because we know it only goes up from here!

Later this week we head back to Arizona to celebrate the culmination of a years worth of learning with all of our Mastermind filmmaker friends! This past year we have been a part of weekly trainings to educate ourselves, continue improving our craft, and a community that has helped us grow so much! This has been such a valuable investment for us and our business and we can’t wait to meet the rest of our internet friends in real life!

I hope you’re ready to see a few more cacti on our feed!

and met when they were 5 and have lived life together as best friends ever since. From theater and making videos in their parents basements through the many phases of life they traversed it all together. After nearly 10 years together they got engaged out in the Tetons and planned a wedding in a little less than 3 months! It was an amazing wedding and a vibrant celebration of a beautiful love story and a prophecy fulfilled.

Just us over here getting so excited for all of the cute proposals coming soon! Whether you’re the sneaky boyfriend headed home for Christmas with a ring in your pocket or the girlfriend who’s been dropping hints and envisioning the perfect surprise for quite a while, this is such a fun, special time! Our biggest advice, soak it in and celebrate. Don’t feel like you immediately need to have answers to everyone’s questions and have everything about the wedding (or elopement, or whatever you’ve envisioned) planned out. It’s a very short lived season so take the time to document it, and enjoy it rather than rushing full speed ahead.

Winter on the beach here has nothing on Michigan! A little bit chilly, but that’s just a great opportunity to get cozy!

We’re finally starting to feel settled in our new home here in South Carolina. The last of our furniture is coming tomorrow, I don’t need directions to get to the grocery store, and we’ve got a long list of places to check out and fun new things to do!

6 MONTHS AGO I LEFT TEACHING- An honest update

If you would have asked me how I felt 6 months ago I probably would have told you tired, utterly spent, anxious, excited about new beginnings, and hopeful, yet unsure of the future.

I’ve always been so inspired by challenges and new opportunities, but I underestimated the loss of identity I would feel in leaving the only professional job I had ever held in the only career I had ever trained for. I certainly didn’t consider myself a ‘Photographer’ or ‘Videographer’ even though both were true and something I had been doing professionally for a while. What do you tell people you do when one is no longer true, but you don’t yet identify with your day to day reality? Safe to say with all the factors at play my mental health was a dumpster fire. So I went to therapy.

Nearing the end of my time teaching I made a “to-do list” to occupy my time transitioning to working full time in the business. All kinds of big picture strategizing, system overhauls, behind the scenes stuff, lofty goals, all very enneagram 3 of me. To this day I have yet to touch that list because as we suspected all along I was already supporting a full time workload in our business and had PLENTY to do without my list.

Once fall came and school went back without me I was surprised to feel relieved, at peace. People asked if I missed it, if I would consider going back in the future. Sure there were parts I missed, but I never dread my days anymore. I don’t count down until Friday or curse my alarm.

Oh but the sweetness. The slow mornings where 5 more minutes of cuddles is almost always allowed. The afternoon walks in the sunshine. The freedom to say yes. The flexibility to travel. The people we meet and have the pleasure of celebrating. Building a life I love with my best friend. It’s everything I wanted, but never thought I would have. It’s been a rocky road to get here, and it’s certainly not always perfect or glamorous, but wow am I glad to have made the jump.

Getting back to editing this unbelievably stunning wedding today. Honestly I’m glad there are photos and video to prove it was real because this all still feels like a dream.

Destination weddings are amazing! The extra time you have to spend with all of your favorite people makes the whole experience so special. There is definitely extra work involved, but the reward is unbelievably worth it. And with the right people (like these two) the extra work barely feels like work at all!

We only take on a handful of destination weddings each year for the sake of our schedule and sanity, but we still have availability for a few more in 2022!

ENGAGEMENT SESSION = PRETTY PLACE + CUTE COORDINATED OUTFITS

Not sure who decided this, but it seems to be the agreed upon formula for an engagement session. Photographers, couples, across the board this seems to be the expectation.

There certainly isn’t anything ‘wrong’ with that formula, but we just wanted to say that an engagement session (or Story/Adventure Video Session 😉) can be SO MUCH MORE than that!

Your engagement session should feel like YOU! It should reflect your relationship and your personalties. It is also a unique snapshot into this special, short lived season of life.

“Well then what should we do?”
We’ve got ideas!

-Recreate a first or special date
-Try something new, or that you’ve always wanted to do together
-Get dressed up and go to your favorite cocktail bar
-Hike your favorite trail, maybe picnic at the top
- Head to the beach for surfing, splashing, or even a sunset swim
-Stay in and order pizza or make cookies
-Take a stroll around town to all your favorite spots
-Go skateboarding and get ice cream after

The possibilities truly are endless! Think about including activities you love, special parts of your relationship, and things that feel authentic to you! We guarantee that your photographer/videographer would love to brainstorm ideas and bring your vision to life!

WHO CARES IF YOUR WEDDING DETAILS ARE TRENDY?!

Bit of a spicy take today coming at ya from two sides of the same coin.

First and foremost hear us say that wedding day details truly are so unique and can make such a difference in the visual experience of the day. But even if the venue, dresses, suits, colors, florals, and design were all exactly the same each wedding has its own flavor because it’s about the people involved!

Styles change and trends come and go. Some couples want to have a super trendy wedding and do things that are super unique in the moment! Others want to have a super classic look and feel that will remain fairly timeless through the years.
NEITHER OF THESE ARE WRONG!

“But what will you think when you look at your photos in 10, 15, 20 years?”

We hope you think “Wow, that was one of the best days of my life. I crafted it to be exactly what I wanted, and in that moment it was perfect. A lot has changed since then, but I wouldn’t change a thing!” We all cringe a little at our parents wedding photos, but it doesn’t make them any less special, does it?

All that to say just because it’s a trend doesn’t mean you have to do it. This goes for anything about weddings- if it’s not your thing, don’t do it. There are no rules.

If it’s a trend and you do like it, DO IT! Even if your friend, or someone on tiktok, or someone you know has already done it. Get the neon sign, wear the custom jacket, put the pampas grass in your bouquet, mismatch your bridesmaids dresses, or your groomsmen suits, name a signature drink after your dog, whatever you want! If it brings you joy and you’re excited about it that’s all that matters!

What ‘trendy’ thing are/were you excited about for your wedding?

You all know our thoughts on doing a First Look (spoiler alert, we LOVE them!). But if that’s not your jam and the down the aisle moment is important to you, we’re here to let you know you’ve got options!

1. Have a first look moment with your important people. Maybe it’s your dad (like ☝🏽) or your brothers, grandpa, bridesmaids, there are no rules here. We’ve found that these can be the sweetest of moments. It also can be a great time to exchange gifts if that is something you have planned!

2. Do a “First Touch.” These are usually set up around a corner, door, tree, or even just back to back. This moment allows you to be with your person without seeing each other. You can pray together, read letters, share personal vows, or just get some of the nerves out. Something about just being with your person, even if you can’t see them can be super relieving, especially if you have a feeling you will be anxious.

If you are getting married you know there are already way too many voices telling you what you should and shouldn’t do on your wedding day. We never want you to be another one of those voices. We will never pressure you to do anything that doesn’t feel like you, but if you’re looking for ideas, our helpful two cents, or just a sounding board, we’ve got you!

Whitney and Luke are seriously two of the most kind and lovely people we’ve met. When Luke sent us a message a few months before the wedding saying that he had a special surprise for Whitney at the wedding we were so excited! Outside of getting to meet their baby pup this was the perfect fall wedding. Getting to spend the day with them and their people was truly a joy and an honor. One of my favorite parts of this film are Luke’s vows. “I see these promises to you, not as promises, but as privileges…I don’t have to love and cherish you, I get to.” Man sometimes editing wedding films (or in my case listening to @thepatrickhellenga edit) can feel like going to church. The longer I’m married the more I see the importance and value of weddings as a married attendee. It’s a chance to reflect on your own relationship and the commitment you’ve made to your person. To remember where it all started and the hope and promise of that moment. To look back to that moment and see how far you have come, how much you have learned, and how you have grown together. I used to think that weddings were all about the couple, but the truth is that celebrating their love, commitment, and hope can be such an important encouragement and reminder to those in attendance as well. Do you ever just meet people and know immediately that they are your kind of people? That was @marisanachman and @kylewheeler__ . From the minute we started talking to Marisa we were so dang excited for this wedding. It was everything we had imagined and more. These two moved to Texas in the middle of wedding planning, and still pulled off this perfect day finalizing plans from a distance. We can’t help but be continually floored by the kindness, support, loyalty, and trust that our couples show us, and these two were a shining example of that. In our pre-wedding questionnaire we ask about elements that are important to them in their film and Marisa wrote, “Everything you touch turns to gold, have fun and be creative.” That kind of freedom to create is what dreams are made of.
