Kay Calpo Lugtu is a veteran in the information and communications technology sector. Her areas of expertise include go-to-market strategy, sales management, and business development. She started her career in the Philippines in global and regional tech companies such as IBM, NEC, and Singtel, and moved to Singapore and held Asia Pacific sales roles for IBM, Oracle, and Tata Communications.

She is the Founder and COO of Hungry Workhorse, a boutique consulting company specializing in strategy, technology and people based in Manila, Philippines. She is also the Founder of A Plate of Bahay Kubo where she promotes and advocates food innovation and sustainability.

She maintains regular columns for The Manila Times - for business under the Management Action column and for food under Kay’s Kitchen.

She also took courses on culinary at the International School of Culinary Arts and Hotel Management (ISCAHM), is a graduate of De La Salle University in Manila and a licensed Electronics and Communications Engineer. It is with great honor to have Dr. Aimee Sheree A. Barrion, Professor, Food Management and Administration Division (FMAD) Institute of Human Nutrition and Food (IHNF), UP Los Baños as one of the Speakers at the 3rd Philippine Food and Beverage Modernization and Innovation Summit, which will be held on May 22-23, 2024, at the City of Dreams Manila Hotel.

Dr. Aimee Sheree A. Barrion, a registered nutritionist and dietitian in the Philippines, is a Professor of Food and Nutrition at the University of the Philippines Los Baños. Before she worked at the university, Dr. Barrion had a stint as a food service manager in a fast-food chain. She was assigned as the Division Head of the Food Management Administrative Division of the Institute from 2001-2002 and 2011-2013. She was appointed as the Associate Dean of the College of Human Ecology (CHE) from 2013 to 2015. Dr. Barrion became the Director of the Institute of Human Nutrition and Food, CHE in 2021-2023. The Nutritionists-Dietitians Association of the Philippines, the Accredited Integration Professional Organization by the Professional Regulation Commission bestowed her the award as the 2023 Most Outstanding Nutritionist-Dietitian.

She obtained her undergraduate and master’s degrees in nutrition from the University of the Philippines Los Baños. She received her PhD in Food Science at the same university in 2011. She handled basic food and nutrition courses, food and nutrition research, and some graduate courses at the university. She took short courses on Food Safety at the University of Jakarta (SEAMEO) in 2005 and the Wageningen University and Research in 2018.

Dr. Barrion co-developed several manuals in food and nutrition and has contributed several scholarly articles both indexed and non-indexed. In 2017 and 2020, she was awarded the “UP Scientist I” title. Her research interests were in food, nutrition, and health. Because of her experience in research, she served as the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Human Ecology from 2014 to 2018 and one of the associate editors of the Journal of Nutritionist-Dietitians Association of the Philippines from 2018 till the present. She also has presented several papers in various local and international scientific fora

Maria Leonora Lotis Francisco is a Professional Food Technologist, a Certified Food Scientist and a Professor in Food Science and Technology at the University of the Philippines, Diliman Quezon City. With 29 years of experience in the academe, she has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in BS Food Technology, MS Food Science and PhD Food Science. She obtained her doctorate degree in Food Science at the University of Georgia USA in 2009, and has Master’s degrees in Applied Science in Food Science and Technology from the University of Western Sydney Australia, and in Food Science from UP Diliman.

Her research interests focus on consumer and sensory studies, product development and optimization of processing conditions, functionality, peanut processing and quality, food packaging, and functional foods. Prof. Francisco has been recognized for her achievements in the field, having been awarded the Certified Food Scientist title by the International Food Science Certification Commission of the Institute of Food Technologists, USA in 2013 and Fellow of the International Academy of Food Science and Technology in 2022.

Apart from her teaching and research endeavors, Prof. Francisco holds several professional assignments. She is a Past Past-President of the Philippine Association of Food Technologists, Inc., a Technical Committee Member for Food Technology under the Commission on Higher Education, a Technical Working Group Committee Member to develop Philippine National Standards under the DA Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards, a Member of various National Codex Sub-committees, a Consultant to DTI-PTTC Global MSME Academy, and the Philippine representative to the International Union of Food Science and Technology.

Lotis is a Professor in Food Science and Technology at the University of the Philippines Diliman. She has been a member of the academe since 1993, handling undergraduate and graduate courses in BS Food Technology, MS and PhD Food Science programs. She obtained her doctorate degree at the University of Georgia USA in 2009; Master in Applied Science from the University of Western Sydney Australia; Master of Science and BS Food Technology in UP Diliman.

Lotis is a Professor in FST at the University of the Philippines Diliman, handling undergraduate and graduate courses in BS Food Technology, MS and PhD Food Science. Dr Enrico C. Paringit is currently Executive Director of the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCIEERD), a position he held since December 2018. Dr Paringit holds a BS in Geodetic Engineering (1997), MS in Remote Sensing (1999), both from the University of the Philippines and obtained his Doctor of Engineering from the Tokyo Institute of Technology (2003). He is seconded to DOST by UP Diliman where he is Professor of Geodetic Engineering since 2014. He has served as Chair and Director of the Department of Geodetic Engineering and Director of the Training Center for Applied Geodesy and Photogrammetry (TCAGP). His specialization is in the field of remote sensing and modeling of hydrological and coastal environments for applications in disaster risk reduction and in energy resource assessment. Dr Eric, as he is fondly called, has conducted and led numerous research including the Disaster Risk Exposure and Assessment for Mitigation (DREAM Program) and Phil-LIDAR 1 Programs from 2011-2018 which using laser mapping technology to identify flood-prone areas throughout the country. At PCIEERD, he pursued innovations in the R&D grants program management, capacity-building and partnerships to accelerate the pace of technology development and innovation in the Philippines.

Engr. Gregorio Zara is a licensed Mechanical Engineer from De La Salle University - Manila and has made a career specializing in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) engineering since 2014.

His professional journey led him to Japan, where he initially served as an HVAC Design Engineer before transitioning to the role of Engineering Leader in the automotive manufacturing sector. His time in Japan was spent refining his skills in value-added engineering, technical acumen, project management, and product design.

In 2023, Miura Philippines brought Greg on board as a Sales Engineer, sharing a vision of creating a greener, more sustainable future through Miura's eco-friendly boiler systems. Together, they are committed to promote this vision across diverse industrial sectors.

We are honored to have Mr. Crispian Lao, Commissioner and Vice Chair, National Solid Waste Management Commission, Private Sector Representative for Composting, Recycling, and Resource Recovery Industry Sector Founding President, Philippine Alliance for Recycling and Material Sustainability (PARMS) Inc., for presenting his expertise at the 3rd Philippine Food and Beverage Modernization and Innovation Summit, which will be held on May 22-23, 2024, at the City of Dreams Manila Hotel.

Commissioner Crispian Lao is the Vice Chairman of the National Solid Waste Management Commission under the Office of the President, Republic of the Philippines, as the Private Sector Representative for the Recycling Industry Sector.
He is the Founding President of Philippine Alliance for Recycling and Material Sustainability (PARMS) which brought together stakeholders across the supply and waste value chain, developed the “ZERO WASTE TO NATURE: AMBISYON 2030” strategy and roadmap for single use products and packaging applications and is now one of the leading Producers Responsibility Organization implementing Extended Producers Responsibility in the Philippines.

He provides technical and regulatory consultancy in the field of EPR, Solid Waste Management, 3Rs, Recycling, Waste to Energy, was an expert panel member and now an advisory committee member of the Study on “Breaking the Plastic Wave (BPW)”, a Technical Advisory Group (TAG) member of the Global Review on “Safer End of Engineered Life (SEEL)” a member of ISO/TC61 (Plastics), ISO/TC323 (Circular Economy) and a former Certified BERDE (Green Building) Professional.
