I try to get to as many events as possible and this one was an absolute HOOT! Kudos to Deb Myles for creating a fundraising event that focused on the FUN! Drag Queen Bingo was a HIT with belly laughs across the entire night. It was also hosted at the amazing The Prop House Collective which is almost ready to welcome you for Christmas. Make sure you say g'day to Jano when you visit, tell her I sent you and she might raise the price for you, because you're my friend ๐Ÿคฃ

But seriously, Deb is raising funds for The Carers Foundation Australia, an organisation that makes sure those that support the most at need in our community, are supported too. Ronnie Benbow is the powerhouse Founder and you want to support Deb with her fundraising for the foundation, check out the link below and donate what you can.

"I'm quitting" I said. "You could pay a 15 year old half my salary to do this job. It doesn't feel right." Truth was, I was bored out of my brain! I was a receptionist in the head office of a highly efficient, highly profitable company. The phone rang about 3 times a day, I had steered the boss away from shorthand to dictaphone (transcribing machine for all the kids in the back), and there was very little for me to do.

So, even though I was getting paid 40% more than I had ever been paid in my life, working with an awesome team of people and working with an entrepreneurial lead of their time, I walked in the door and I quit.

The boss said to me....

"I don't pay you for what you do Sally, I pay you for what you can do. I didn't hire you for the tasks I need done, I hired you because I know that when I want something done, you will be capable of doing it".

This was the first boss that actually saw potential in me, and I have never forgotten these words. My job changed that day. I started to look for ways I could add value to the company. What could I do that was unexpected, surprising and added to the already efficient machine. From then on, I created a great role for myself and learnt a stack of new skills. This gave me permission to test, play, try things out, without the pressure of saying "I can do that".

So now when that little imposter creeps into my mind and someone is paying me to do something that comes easily to me, I remember these words. And I know that when push comes to shove and that thing has to get done, your investment will have been worth it, because yes, I can.

The things we do to get attention LOL. I wanted everyone to know me before I got on stage to give my presentation, so I played basketball, wore a silly hat and dressed in a hot pink suit with sparkles on my t-shirt. Sometimes you have to do it all to stand out!

This was my event with a bunch of spam comments from people claiming to have bought tickets and now trying to re-sell them. None of these were legit. Be careful when buying tickets peeps, it's not just the big shows getting scammed.

I love the idea of this being an apprenticeship - there's somehow less responsibility attached and permission to fail more evident. Consider your event creation as an apprenticeship, and give yourself permission to fail - it is when we fail that we learn and become great. Fail less, learn more with my upcoming course. I had a lot of fun exhibiting at the again last year and this time I tried a fun basketball game to engage with the audience. It helped that I was hanging out with a bunch of willing participants, but it was also a simple demonstration of the power of engagement. Turns out I am able to keep up with the cool kids and unbeknown to me, "gamified" my stand. But that's just the point right, nothing's really new, I just thought about my objective and how I could keep people coming back.

What should I do next time?

Check out my blog here, where I go into all the details of how I made this work and the results it delivered. Big thanks to the team at Bundaberg Regional Council and Liquid Oracle for being such good sports. Read the full blog here https://www.eventplannersworkshop.com.au/blog/gamification

Coming up with fundraising ideas for your charity events can be a challenge. Many events have the usual auction but I think auctions exclude the majority of the room and by making this your major activity, you may be leaving thousands of dollars on the table.

Auctions work really well at most fundraising events, but have you ever done an ROI exercise on your charity auction? They consider the amount of hours put into sourcing, schmoozing, and gathering items, then the listing, sorting and process around setting up the auction, the promotion, the logistics and of course the ex*****on, delivery, and reporting back to all those donors. You can see why auction companies can charge upward of 50% of the auction revenue.

Share your fundraising ideas below and let's help everyone get more support for their causes, and include their whole audience in the process.

And if you would love to have me in your back pocket for your next fundraising event, maybe my short, action-oriented, and fun course is will work for you. Find out more here -

The Event Planner's Workshop presents this six week course with weekly live Q&A to support you with your perfect event. Ideal for those who are ready to take their clients, guests or staff on a unique immersive experience.

I'm a fan of Abraham and the feelings expressed in this post are why I'm a fan of live events. That nervous anticipation you're feeling is pure joy for what's about to become.

Read this and see what it brings up for you around your event. Do you breathe in, rise up and raise your eyebrows, feeling excitement?

That's what it feels like to be on to a good thing.

Dear Friends,

Abraham has been encouraging us to spend more time looking forward and very little time looking back. They have explained that our Inner Beings do this โ€” that our Inner Beings do not focus to the past. And then they asked us, "What has happened to your feelings of anticipation?" As they emphasized this in a few workshops, I began to experience a powerful sense of anticipation, as if I could feel the convergence of the things coming together before actually getting there. It's like instead of experiencing a flash back of something that has happened, I'm experiencing a flash forward of something that is going to happen. It feels awesome!

We will be in the San Francisco area this coming Saturday and, of course, we have been planning this for a long time. It is not a surprise that we will be there. And while there are many things that are in the works, and have been for a while, such as the hotel staff has our list of requests for the way we like the meeting room to be set up, and our road van is already in San Francisco holding the audio and visual equipment that our event requires, and our event team has booked their airline flights and car rentals, and hundreds of people have made reservations to attend and have carved the time out of their schedules to rendezvous with us โ€” there is something else that is going on. There is an energetic convergence that is happening ahead of us being there. Like waves of Nonphysical well-being paving the way for us, and already having arrived at our agreed upon time and place that we will meet. And that is what I keep catching glimpses of. At first I thought it was me just remembering the wonderful past events that we have held in that same place. But I am now realizing that it is what we are all creating together, right now, that is culminating and that I am seeing. It is all of us in our current points of attraction, our desires, our intentions, our questions coming together as cooperative components of something wonderful. I love this so much!

Our love,
Esther

My top 3 things to consider when planning your event program:

1๏ธโƒฃ Ensure a balance of program content and white space

What does this mean? Make sure you have planned content but also time for your audience to process the content. A program that is full to the brim with no spare time to reflect and process is going to overwhelm the audience.

2๏ธโƒฃ Include multiple engagement types

Have you ever been to a conference or event and have just been talked at for 8 hours? While some people may learn and take in information in that way, many people don't. Make sure your program includes a mix of information sharing styles - presentations, discussions, Q&As etc.

3๏ธโƒฃ Link your program back to your audience

Remember, without an audience, there is no event. Your audience must be at the forefront of every step of the event planning process. Always consider, will your audience engage with this? Is this something they will be expecting or want to see at this event? Is it useful? Will they relate?

Thinking of these 3 things, will make sure you're well on your way to having a successful program for your event.

In this week's blog, I discuss the need for queues, and our desire to be sheep and share a few ideas on how to mitigate the need for queueing that results in happier customers and more revenue. I went to see Tony Hawk at The Fortitude on the weekend and it was epic but...

Consider this
did we need to queue?
are tickets and scanners outdated?
do we need all this new tech for data gathering?

I'm calling no on all the above. Link in bio to read more and I would love to hear your thoughts.
