Do you ever hold something in your hand and just feel so grateful?
I've "grown" this dahlia on and off for the past 5 years. The first year I grew it, I got one flower. I thought it was very pretty but didn't realize it was one of those unicorn varieties. In the 2nd year, I only had two tubers, and one rotted. The one that survived gave me a puny plant that never bloomed. It gave me one viable tuber, but then I lost it. Like actually lost it somewhere in my storage bins. I later found it again the following spring in my peat moss bin and planted it. Unfortunately, that plant fell victim to virus. Then, in the next 2 years, I tried to get it from dahlia sales, but due to its unicorn status, I failed to acquire one. Finally, this year, I got two from two different farms. Both plants are robust and thriving with no viral symptoms. They've also bloomed enough for a handful shot, making me feel so profoundly grateful that i finally have this variety.
