Enjoy the views and the abundant prairie flowers on a short walk on the prairie trail. Join Marge Loch-Wouters, a MN Master Naturalist volunteer, as we identify plants and observe their pollinators in action. We'll also see the difference between the plants in dry prairie and a small wetlands on our walk.

Back for a second year! The La Crescent Community garden was established in 2006 as a partner program of La Crescent Area Healthy Community Partnership. The Community Garden is a volunteer organization in collaboration with Messiah Lutheran Church. The garden is located on the corner of the church property at Jonathan Lane and N. 9th St in La Crescent.

When you visit the La Crescent Community Garden you will see over 30 different 10x10 plots with a variety of garden types such as vegetables, flowers, and even a children’s garden. There are group plots where extra produce is grown and excess is donated to the community food shelf. The garden strives to encourage participants to eat seasonally and locally, garden as organically as possible and create an opportunity for community members to work together.

Come enjoy the ever changing gardens and enjoy a delightful treat!

Welcome to Connie's gardens where you will see various spots that have different styles and different feels- from whimsical to functional. From the gazebo surrounded by a dry riverbed to the hillside covered in a variety of trees (pines, lilac trees, bushes and maples), ferns and a plethora of Hosta plants. Wander amongst the rock gardens filled with sedum and raspberries along yard edges. In the center of all of the splendor, the carved Panda Bear named Boo II will greet you. Connie's garden has something for everyone!

Glenevis, once a thousand acres, was acquired by Donald J. Cameron in 1859 as payment for building road bed grades and railroad tunnels in the area. He also built a race track on 35 acres of land which is now known as the Horse Track development in La Crescent. The Chihak family are now the proud owners of a portion of “DJ” Cameron’s history and have lovingly preserved and landscaped a little under two acres of the original land. Prepare to take a step back into La Crescent’s history as you journey through the gardens and see the original barn, stone mill, and even a tombstone!

Nestled at the top of Apple Blossom Drive is a beautiful oasis cared for by Jessica Denny and her family. The gardens showcase a water feature, two rain gardens, and a variety of apple trees. Jessica's gardens attract many different types of birds and the deer are often seen grazing. Throughout the yard surrounding the house are black eye Susans, berries, lilac bushes, native grasses. The prairie surrounding the house has all kinds of beautiful flowers and grasses. Come visit Jess's garden to see how a return to the native wild scape can be created and enjoyed.

This has been a 20 year project…so far! As Laurie entered the front door the first time and looked straight through the house, it was clear that this backyard needed a waterfall! First however came the battle with the thistles and Queen Ann's Lace. Laurie has propagated many of these plants herself, others were “extras” from people that she divided and patiently waited for them to fill in. Many clearance finds have found homes here, and even though her garden is full…she is still trying to fit in just one more sad and thirsty little discard that she seems to be drawn too in her travels. The hours invested have been many…but the rewards, as she sits with her coffee and listen to the morning songs of the birds and the babbling of the waterfall, are plentiful. Come and sit a spell and enjoy!

“Honey Eye Knoll was established as a garden in 2015, each year bringing new challenges and surprises to our family of gardeners. We have a raised bed vegetable garden, raised bed berry patches, a hillside pumpkin patch, as well as a deck full of herbs and other growing plants living outdoors for the summer. Our pride and joy is in our perennials, some heritage plants that have been passed down 5 generations: we have a wide variety of Irises, daylilies, hostas, and sedum, with dappled willows creating shade as well as many other perennial plants, vines, and shrubs on the Knoll. Over time, our goal is to have a perpetually blooming cottage style landscape where something is always in bloom.”
