Did I jump at the opportunity to collaborate with the lovely calligraphy artist Nerissa from on a truly special commission? You bet!

The finished piece - a stunning 20x20 frame - embodies 4 different love stories. Let me explain.

The first story belongs to the newlywed couple who were gifted this frame. Their wedding vows are engraved on the glass, symbolizing the many bike rides they took together, bringing them closer to each other every time 🚲

Then it's the family member who gifted this frame. It truly is the most thoughtful gift a newlywed couple can receive. Just imagine all the feels they get every time they glance at the frame 💝

The third story is Nerissa's love for calligraphy. In a world that only types and taps, Nerissa puts pen to paper and engraving tools to glass to remind us that handwriting is pure art ✒️

And finally, it's the story of my garden. Every single flower and leaf in this piece was grown from seed in my tiny garden. I can't imagine a better way to share my bloom babies than to celebrate young love 🏵️

This commission filled my soul with so much joy - thank you, Nerissa, for taking a chance on me!

I've improved my technique and grown as an artist thanks to these lovely pieces...

1️⃣ Stephanie's frame...
The only 2023 bouquet without greenery made me very nervous during the design stage. I knew I had to dial up the contrast between the mat color and the flowers. A black mat with a black frame would have accentuated the lack of "grounding" that the greenery brings to bouquets. So I recommended a lovely green mat and a walnut frame to create interest and playfulness.

2️⃣ Alissa's memorial frames...
The large purple orchids were very important to her and her family. But I had only 5 of them and 8 small frames to create. It wasn't easy to decide to cut 4 up of them, but I trusted the process. I'm so happy Alissa loved them too!

3️⃣ Gianna's petal earrings...
Frameless flower earrings are my absolute favorite, but how tricky they are to create! The whisper-thin petals curl up in contact with UV resin so I had to apply about 4 very thin layers on each side. I learned how to slow down and pace myself while applying 48 thin layers total for all 6 petals - each blitzed with UV light for 3 minutes.

4️⃣ Amy's floating frame...
Oh my, this one had me sweating bullets! Her absolutely stunning bouquet included fluffy peonies and ranunculus. I had to do them justice. I combined pressed and silica techniques to achieve this 3D effect in a regular frame - not a bulky shadow box! Framing two glass panes is always incredibly nerve-wracking, but my hubs helped me a bit to make it happen. Phew!

5️⃣ Emily's garden tableau...
I went over to her magical garden 5 times in 2023 to collect hundreds of flowers and greenery across 3 seasons. When it was time to design, I was completely overwhelmed with choices. But I knew that the red hibiscus bloom and the peonies had to steal the show. I'm so grateful Emily decided to go BIG - her frame is 20x24!
