Tabula Rasa is an independent three-day, two-night music and camping festival set on the lands of the Gunditjmara, Tjap Wurrung and Bunganditj People. The festival hosts Australian and international DJs known to rapture dancers with rolling basslines, tumbling beats, breaks, and a smattering of lofty vocals. Tie it all together under the iconic waft of the gum trees and we have the makings of something special.

Tabula Rasa is a festival, but it also stands for blank slate: A chance to start fresh and begin again without imprinted ideas, history or record. Which is exactly why we think this event is best served on the edge of another 365 days. We’re a small team putting on the party that we wanted to attend over NYE. But Tabula Rasa is written by you: the contributors, performers, creatives, contractors and volunteers keen to ring in the new year with dust between your toes. Let's ride the wave of the beat continuum before travelling another 940 million kilometres around the sun. Certified dancefloor bliss.

First release Contributor Pass is now available. .

Johnny Lovett.

Local Hamilton icon, country and western superstar and incredibly influential Gunditjmara / Boandik Elder, Johnny Lovett will take the stage for a Welcome to Country and guitar performance.

We had the privilege of getting to know Johnny before the festival. He drove us out to an iconic landmark alongside Hamilton Lake known as The Sundial. We highly encourage you to stop by the sundial on your road trip to Hamilton!

Johnny was born in 1947 in Hamilton, Victoria. He has been actively involved in the community and has advocated for native title rights as well as recognition and compensation for his father and uncles as Aboriginal soldiers who served in World War I and World War II.

Johnny has performed all over Australia and has played at numerous events and festivals. He has played with stars like Shane Howard and Archie Roach, as well as many other artists including Jimmy Little, Chad Morgan, John Rex Reeves (nephew of the great Jim Reeves), Joanne Cash Yates (sister of the legendary Johnny Cash), and Hank Sasaki from Nashville Tennessee.

Johnny has advocated for native title rights and, in particular, he has been actively involved in the recognition of native title rights of the Gunditjmara people. Johnny is proud that the Gunditjmara people are now formally part of the political landscape. The Gunditjmara can legally have a say about developments – called ‘future acts’ – that occur on their native title lands. Through their native title rights, Gunditjmara have the right to negotiate when high impact activities are proposed on their lands.

Johnny states that, “native title recognises our land as being Gunditjmara country. It puts local councils, state government agencies and private land users on notice that they now have to deal with us as a people. They now have to negotiate with us through the proper channels. We have to be involved, at last”.

Wax’o Dystopio
~~~~~~~~~~~~
These two need no introduction. Wax’o Dystopia and temporarily renounce their appellation for a four-to-the-floor 90 minute passage of relentless psychedelic dance and party orientated music. A combination as enticing as it is deadly, with both constituents heavily involved in Melbourne music landscapes. Whether it's Simon's efforts in birthing Melbourne’s recently found community online neo-radio ‘Skylab’, or Ed’s consistent Friday contributions to landmark radio station PBS, distinctive selection and emphatic delivery is guaranteed.
Tabula Rasa 2020 welcomes local legend Katie Pearson to the stage!
“Katie has long been at the forefront of Australia’s q***r dance scene, most notably as cohost of “gay ass disco”, The Outpost. However, when you can regularly produce moments of dance floor ecstasy that Front Leftists thought only possible in the ’90s, you quickly become the scenes worst kept secret.
Her musical microscope understands the entire genetic makeup of a dance party. It is a science of feeling and Katie Pearson is the expert in her field. “
King Stingray
~~~~~~~~~~

From North-east Arnhem Land and Queensland, we couldn’t be more excited to welcome trailblazing band . We’ve had our eye on King Sting for a while, after a killer sunset performance at Meadow Music Festival. A band built on mate ship and two cultures coming together is a powerful force to witness.

“These five Yolŋu (Aboriginal) and balanda (non-Indigenous) lads have quickly become one of Australia’s hottest new acts.
Mixing ancient Yolŋu manikay (songs) and biḻma (clapsticks) with hot electric guitars and searing lyrics. King Stingray has one foot planted in history, and one firmly in the future. Frontman Yirriŋa Yunupiŋu and guitarist Roy Kellaway have direct bloodlines running from Aussie rock royalty Yothu Yindi – the ARIA-winning legends who gave voice to the push for Aboriginal recognition with timeless tracks like Treaty, Tribal Voice and One Blood. Yirriŋa, whose name translates to ‘place of stingray’, is a young Gumatj clan songman from the seaside community of Yirrkala. He’s following in the footsteps of his pioneering uncle, Yothu Yindi founder Mandawuy Yunupiŋu, who passed away in 2013. “Dr Yunupiŋu was a great man, a humble man, a knowledge man, and he’s a leader – sharing a message,” says Yirriŋa. “Now we’re here to build a bridge for our generation, for our future, for the kids, just to do the same things as he was doing, and he’s been through.”

ROZA TERENZI
~~~~~~~~~~~
Ringing in the New Year ⚡️Tabula Rasa is proud to announce that BERL based, WA superstar will be joining this year’s edition of Tabula Rasa!
Roza Terenzi’s productions are prime for interstellar communication; sublime mind dance, warehouse bleeps and dawn-ready breaks that will inevitably find union between earth people and other beings. Her signature saphhic sound stands for assertive femme finesse; stomping, kicking it’s heels up and trailblazing with electrifying energy.
Before relocating to Europe in 2020, profound foundations were laid in her home country; with an immense genre-spanning DJ style and consummate live sets at Inner Varnika, Meredith and Strawberry Fields cementing her as a vital component of Australia's dance music mecca. Although devoted to her local scenes with releases via Butter Sessions, Bizarro, Pelvis and Voyage, Terenzi's spent the majority of recent years answering international calls. Extensively touring UK/Europe, Asia and North America, she's brought her boisterous bush doof energy to Primavera, Dekmantel, Lente Kabinet and Honcho Campout, twisting club havens Säule, Pickle Factory, De School, Robert Johnson, Closer and Nowadays.
This time on the road has only strengthened her production output and sonic diversity; releasing quasi-cosmic atmospherics on Dekmantel, Klasse Wrecks and her signature alien beatdown on Kalahari Oyster Cult. The musical output continues to bloom with Roza’s collaborations, as part of projects Current Obsession, B’Zircon and Tapestry of Sound. Her most recent and monumental triumphs include Terenzi’s debut LP “Modern Bliss” on kindred label Planet Euphorique and the launch of her own imprint Step Ball Chain, a slice of modern contemporary dance music from herself, friends, special projects and collaborations.
We are beyond excited to welcome Roza to the stage as she leads us into 2022 with a 3 hour set over NYE!
