My first memories of Maggie Smith aren't of the old lady she portrayed so well for subsequent generations.
They are of the young, vibrant Teacher she portrayed in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.
It was the theme of this film that led me to become a huge fan of Rod McKuen too, meaning that they were both a massive part of my childhood and early teens.
Some deaths of people you have never met hit you harder tan most... this is one of them.
I'm not sure why I'm crying, but I am.
