Gleeful Gumshoe presents Shadenfraude September, an interactive social media murder mystery where YOU determine what direction the story takes! At the end of each installment, you will be given choices in what to investigate next, and your votes will not only reveal new clues to help solve the mystery, but also influence the story itself, and how it plays out! Trigger Warning for mentions of violence, s*x work, and religion. This story is intended for mature audiences, and may contain some mature content!

It was a frigid Tuesday evening when Dr. Schadenfreude got into a limo alone with his driver, Paul, after leaving a bar. Paul told investigators his employer seemed frantic, almost manic upon leaving the establishment. They made a stop on the way to Schadenfreude's house, at the corner of Main Street and Third near the hospital, the brothel, and the church. They stopped there for five minutes, during which the driver says he saw none of what happened next. He says that when his employer re-entered the vehicle, he seemed a bit more subdued, and had an inscrutable expression on his face. The next morning, Dr. Schadenfreude was found dead in his apartment, with one bullet wound through the right side of his chest, and the other in his foot. 🔍Gumshoe Riddle Contest!🔎

A body is found in an 8x12 hotel room. The room is locked from the inside when the detective arrives at 3 PM, and shows no sign of forced entry. In the room there are a few items of particular interest to the detective: on the table is a half-drunk mug of now-cold coffee, and a white plate, bearing the hotel’s insignia. In the man’s pocket, an ID revealing him to be a well-known local drug lord, confirmed by a significant amount of co***ne and a revolver stored in the dresser. It does not appear to have been fired recently. In the bathroom, the detective finds a sign over the bathroom mirror says “room cleaning daily at 3:30 PM,” and a half-opened box of activated charcoal. Finally, the detective finds a wad of cash to the tune of $10,000 in the man’s bathrobe pocket. The detective is confident that this was indeed a murder, and when his assistant asks what to do next, he says he plans to stay right where he is. What happened, and why does the detective not want to leave the hotel room?
