Allow me to introduce a new flower that I grew this year and now one of my favourites. The pincushion, Latin name scabiosa, but I don’t think that suits this dainty little sweetheart! She can be pure white, soft pastels or a moody black raspberry colour. I love all the stages of growth, beginning as a little cluster, then bursting into a fluffy flower and once the petals fall, a pincushion-like ball that actually dries really nicely. Watch for her dancing in this Saturday’s farm-gate bouquets. 💜

Some things you grow because they are pretty and some because they are popular, have a long vase life and so on... I grew these carnations this year simply because they reminded me of my grandma. She would babysit us during the summer holidays, where my brother and I would "help" her tend the garden. Really, we just ate strawberries and ran through the sprinkler; but, I do have fond memories of plucking the carnations that were planted all along her deck and then making little arrangements to adorn our lunch table. They smelled so beautiful! These carnations are planted just for Grandma. Their scent brings me back to those wonderful days gone by. And who knows, maybe these summer days are what planted the seed for floral the journey I am now on. So I am curious, what flowers bring back sweet memories for you?

As a one-gal show, I only take on a few weddings a year, here are couple favorites of the wedding florals created this past week for Jessica and John. A romantic bridal bouquet and matching boutonnières for baby and Daddy (so precious!). Blue was their preferred accent colour, which can be a little tricky when it comes to flowers, so I was tickled when the forget-me-nots and cornflowers bloomed right on cue!

Turn on the volume for this one! Here is a little dose of nature… in our whirlwind lives, I really need to remind myself to take a breath and cherish the moment. After all, the “to do” list is never going to be complete, but these gorgeous summer days are fleeting. H

Last week it felt as though I was in a Bridgerton show! Seeing sneak peaks of the stunning grad outfits was really exciting. I so appreciated the opportunity to design some corsages and boutonnières to adorn the wrists and lapels of several grads. And I so appreciated the generosity of my in-laws, who let me raid their garden of mini roses! #summerlandgrad #gradcorsage #summerlandflowers
